My $28 skirt steak was delicious, maybe 4-5oz, served with literally 3 small pieces of potato and 3 pieces of rutabaga and 5 pieces of lettuce. The very small pieces of bread served are annoyingly already covered with olive oil. The chicken dish one of my companions had, again, while delicious, looked like a third portion on a huge plate.... Nice decor, open kitchen. We had fried garlic tapas & scallops tapas that were delicious! They were 1-2 bites of deliciousness. We had a total of 4 tapas one better tasting than the other. We followed the tapas with a classic paella. It came out hot and plentiful with saffron rice bed. Service was attentive and not overbearing. Our water... More

About two weeks ago, I had my second meal at Local 188. We were a table of six, and most of us ordered the sam dishes or shared them. All of us liked our meals, and my own experience was very consistent with my previous visit. Being aware that the portions at Local 188 are extremely large, I ordered a... More

During a recent visit to Portland, I visited Local 188 for Sunday brunch based on Open Table reviews and a moderate number of people waiting for a table on the sidewalk outside (usually a good sign). After waiting approximately 15 minutes outside (which was not bad considering we arrived around noon), we were seated and were looking forward to a... More

We stopped by at 9am for Sunday brunch. It's a good thing that we arrived at opening time, because by 9:30 the place was packed with a hefty waiting line. The brunch was very good. I had the corned beef with eggs and potatoes, my wife had huevos rancheros, and our grandson had a burger. It was all served hot... More

Local 188 was a nice walk from our B&B. We made reservations on Open Table and we're glad we did as the restaurant did get busy around 6:30 PM. The food was fresh and nicely presented.

Waited for brunch at this restaurant to be seated at the very end of the service time. As we sat there they turned away a number of people saying it was too late to serve them. Wish we had been so lucky. They ran out of 8 of their items by the time we sat down. No problem. But the... More

We spent 2 weeks touring Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island and are totally disappointed with the restaurants in both Provinces. We were looking forward to having many nice, relaxing dinners with a variety of foods during our travels. We mainly found that restaurants closed early or only open certain days of the week (even though it is the height... More

We stuck mostly to East end eateries based on our hotel location but when we couldn't get into Piccolo (no reservation, bad on us) a friendly local couple clued us in to their favorite place -- Local 188. Great recommendation-- the tapas just kept getting better w each round. Andy knew his menu and helped guide us from good to... More

Have to admit that I backed off a best rating because the service was just problematic. There were workers who came and were going to bring this or that and then never showed. The small plates were really fun and some were fantastic and not that small, for example the steamed mussels in wine. Definitely use the spoon to drink... More
