Have to admit that I backed off a best rating because the service was just problematic. There were workers who came and were going to bring this or that and then never showed. The small plates were really fun and some were fantastic and not that small, for example the steamed mussels in wine. Definitely use the spoon to drink... More

My cousins and I stopped in on a whim for brunch. It was amazing! The place has a cool vibe and the staff is so friendly. The food was top notch. The English muffin was the best I have ever had and the peach and ginger jam was unreal. A must try.

3 scallops (tapas) for $15? In Maine, really? A chicken meal that was served on an enormous plate making it look even tinier than it was $28. The menu selection was eclectic. The food tasted good which is the only reason it's getting 2 stars instead of one. And... it was the only Portland restaurant, on a Wednesday night in... More

We had a wonderful dinner experience at Local 188, ordering several tapas to share. Each bite was packed with flavor, and everything was well prepared. The house focaccia bread was tasty as well. Quite a fun meal!

We were staying at the pomegranate inn on Neal street. We were recommended local 188 for its tapas. Spanish food with a twist. Great service, hipster atmosphere. Good wines and food, would definitely return .

We met up with family for an early brunch on Sunday. The dining room is wide open, funky, and fun. My only complaint was that it was a bit noisy. There are some very unique dishes available for brunch... the Breakfast Paella received universal high praise. I had the Biscuits and Gravy, and I was delighted at the quality of... More

While not exactly on the Tourist’s side of downtown, Local 188 is a rather refreshing take on casual drinks food and atmosphere. Don’t come here looking for meat and potatoes, but lighter dishes with cosmopolitan flair. The restaurant is very open lending itself to a sense of vitality when busy and the kitchen is open for the watching. Local 188... More

We sat at the bar in front of the line. Not decorated or contrived, a kitchen you could sit and watch. The dining room is very cool. Tables, comfortable sitting areas, a corner bar, sizeable. It's an old auto garage I guess. The Chef's knew what they were doing. The food was wonderful. The tartar was so fresh and had... More

My husband had wanted us to visit this "Spanish inspired" restaurant for a few years now. We had heard it was excellent. The decor is funky and the place has a nice feel. However, the food was subpar. We ordered patatas bravas which technically is a Spanish potato with a type of hot sauce. The menu lists the dish as... More

We had an excellent meal on our way back from Boston. We have always enjoyed this restaurant and the food and service are very good. The wine list is very good. The service is excellent, and the location is very convenient.
