Loved it !!! I went for breakfast with my adult son. It was his suggestion; I'd never been before. Well, I came late to the party, but I'm on board now. The restaurant is adorable, the service (Alissa?) was great, and the food was abundant and delicious. One of the best omelets I've ever had, the "homies" we're super, and... More

Odd place with frontage on two streets. The breakfast food looked great but we came for lunch. I had apiqusnt soup that was tasty and just spicy enough. My wife had red beans and rice. It was just as good. Friendly folks. Lowcprices.

The hostess was rude. There's no place to wait for a table inside. The service was slow. The breakfast food was average. If you're looking breakfast in Portland, skip this place.

There are many reasons for this hole in the walls success. The food is good with friendly fun service. The greetings and the smells when you walk in.

How did I manage to live in this city so many years, and never eat at Bayou Kitchen? Probably because it was out of the way, always crowded, and seemed too run down to matter. In a city so many restaurants per capita, competition for foodies is fierce -- and we had just never bothered. So, some years later, returning... More

It's a little "hole in the wall" creole place. It is off the beaten path. It is kitschy, and I really wanted to love it, but the food fell a bit short for us. The eggs themselves were delicious, but the storied hash was dry and bland. The potential of yummy cornbread was not realized with the dry, crumbly cornbread... More

My wife and I had an early Sunday brunch and absolutely Loved the food and service. This place is kinda small and often has a wait (fifteen minutes for us) but worth it. They even took our phone number so we could shop the neighborhood stores. Authentic Cajun style breakfast along with typical American fare. Sit at the counter and... More

It's been four years since we were last at the Bayou. We love that it is a small place with personal service. Their food is consistently good and caters to vegetarians. A great place for breakfast. They can be very busy too but the food always seem to arrive quickly.

We arrived towards closing (around 1:15) but was greeted warmly by the waitress - she had lots of energy and smiles! Served us delicious gumbo and great corn bread!

Found this tiny little casual joint on a recommendation. Has become our go to breakfast on the way out of Portland after visiting. This works for folks headed West to VT n NH as is on Forrest Ave headed for route 302. If your dismal fate is to head back to MA or NY... Drive out Forrest ave anyway n... More
