All reviews brunch andouille sausage hash pancakes red beans and rice huevos rancheros home fries soup chicken hot sauce meet friends home made portions are huge the food is great spicy jalapenos piquant
While in the neighborhood for the farmers market, I stopped in to get their chicken piquant (hot and sour) soup to go. It was very good -- quite spicy, good flavor -- but I thought the bowl portion for the $13 price with tax was...poor. Maybe I'm used to the large portions of Asian hot and sour soups for the same price or cheaper. I'd definitely go back and try some of their breakfast items sometime, though.More
Small place with limited seating. I was parking the car while my husband went in to get a table and they wouldn't seat him until I was there. I was 2 min away walking back to the restaurant after parking and two other parties were...able to jump in front of him. I never understood that rule, I was PARKING THE CAR! The hostess wasn't very friendly, perhaps she was having a bad day. Our server was wonderful though and the food was pretty good. I had an omelette with peppers, Jalapenos, onion, mushrooms and bacon - super good with just the right amount of cheese. My husband had the Huey P Long and we were a little surprise and the small amount of Andouille sausage they gave him. I think cajun restaurant and I would have thought they would have really gone above and beyond with the spicy sausage, but it was only a small piece. I would recommend this place, and I think next time I'd really like to go here for lunch and try out that menu.More
We found Bayou Kitchen on a fluke and we are very glad we did. We both got the specialty omelet with polish sausage, caramelized onions and roasted red peppers and we both loved it. My husband got the red beans and rice as a side(...incredible flavor) and I got the home fries that were very well cooked and delicious with the hot sauce they provide. It was so good we bought two bottles. We can't wait to go back for lunch and try the gumbo!More
Recommended by a visitor and turned out to be great place for a hearty breakfast. Like having a meal in News Orleans. My breakfast was Cajun shrimp (which were perfectly spiced) with 2 sunny side up eggs over grits with a biscuit the was perfectly...light and yummy. Will definitely be going back. If you go, be aware that parking can be a challenge!More
Been there numerous times over the years and still terrific. Portions are huge, quality outstanding in a funky atmosphere. Service is good and the coffee excellent. If I lived in the area I'd go weekly for sure.
The food is great and there is a wonderful variety of dishes to choose from. It is hard to get some spice for breakfast at most places but not here! It is an option. Love to meet friends here. It is friendly and comfortable. You...can't go wrong.More
As a lifelong Portlander, I’ve eaten at every restaurant in Portland of this genre many times. Sad story here.
Once a great local hang out with fresh funky food, now it’s just another stop for the Sysco truck.
I had a breakfast burrito- canned corn,...canned beans, Sysco burrito and cheese folder over like a quesadilla or stromboli with 2 fried eggs on top. Could not eat.
The fruit salad was 2 slices of orange, one strawberry (cut into 4 thin slices) some banana and topped with frozen Sysco blueberries (thawed). But this is the height of blueberry season in Maine folks!!
The pancake was ok, frozen blueberries, $2 extra for real maple syrup. Hot chocolate made with water not milk.
The Hash was a highlight “5” on a 10 point scale.
Unbearable heat inside, both doors open and I was sweating so much through my cotton T shirt that my 16 year old daughter got a big kick.
Service: fine - one nice waitress one who probably was having a rough day.
Very different place than the place I knew when I was a student here.More
Very good breakfast place!
If you enjoy spicy and southern flavors, The Bayou Kitchen is right in your alley. Great choices and good portions for your money. Oh, look up at the board for specials!
You won't be disappointed!
