We were in Portland for an event and wanted to grab a quick bite to eat. Being unfamiliar with the area we ducked into the 555 Diner.Clearly,we were not the norm based upon our western maine Carhartt attire, the staff quickly recovered after picking their...jaws up off the floor. We were shown to a table with a couch (nap after dinner maybe) and an odd ergonomically correct chair that seemed unsteady at best. We were given the menu and asked about drinks. We chose water, and boy did they pour it on. Seriously they must have filled our glasses 10 times. Our conclusion was the marketing ploy is to fill you with liquid so the tiny salad that cost $11.95 might seem like a meal. The prices were extremely high and portions were small. The mussels were very tasty, but if your hungry go somewhere else unless your willing to drop your biweekly pay in one go. If you're looking for water I highly recommend the 555. The ClampettsMore

We recently dined at 5:55 on a winter evening around Valentine’s Day. Never having been there before I was curious. The menu was interesting the food was good. However living in this area with so many great choices for food I am not sure I...would return. My companion’s soup was lukewarm. There was no bread served with the soup. The duck and swordfish were good. In all a good meal but could get as good a meal elsewhere. Wait staff was quite formal. I think money might be well spent elsewhere.More

We dined here last evening for the first time and I was very impressed. We opted for the five course tasting menu with wine and the food was outstanding. Highlights included the mussels, the scallops and the cheesecake. The included wines, while adequate, were nothing...exceptional. However, the food and the service were exquisite. Granted, this is not a cheap place to dine. We spent over $100 each, which is more like what I expect to pay in NYC. But so much about this establishment is right on the mark that I truly felt like I got my money's worth. There were four in our party and everyone's meals came out together. They used two waiters to do this and so everyone was served at once. The waiters were professional and personable. It was a very enjoyable evening.More

My boyfriend and I wanted to try a really nice restaurant in Portland and picked Five Fifty Five! We didn't know what to expect and we're so incredibly amazed by the atmosphere, the service, and the food! The staff were so attentive and so kind,...so helpful! The food, oh my goodness, I have never had this good of a mac and cheese... I HIGHLY recommend getting the truffled mac and cheese, every bite was mouth watering! It's a little underrated but trust me, it's worth every minute!More

I thought I had been to the best places in Portland already. This was absolutely excellent start to finish. The service was great, the atmosphere warm and romantic, and the food was scrumptious. Great wine list, and not marked up too much. I don’t know...what they do to the lobster, but it was the most tender and flavorful I’ve had anywhere. They had a special menu for the evening, and we loved the short rib and the rainbow beet salad. Loved having the option of cheese for dessert. Can’t wait to come back!More

We were on a mini vacation and had dinner here Christmas Eve. What a treat. We were treated like royalty. The food was fabulous and our waiter was amazing. We had drinks in the bar first and the bartender was the best! I had a...Margarita that was so good, I asked for the recipe. So, he wrote it out for me 🥰. This trip was also close to my birthday and there were all kinds of little extras, like a special card on our table with Birthday wishes and then also on our dessert written in ganache. I can’t say enough about what a special time we had and we hope to have another opportunity to eat here again.More

555 is a must in Portland! We were seated up stairs on the balcony and really enjoyed the space. It was private without feeling like we were dining by ourselves. We started our meal with the beet salad and mussels. Both were great, however the...mussels were amazing! The cherry pepper broth was so rich with flavor I could eat this dish all the time. For our mains we had the short ribs and the scallops. We both loved our choices and each dish came with so much veg you don’t need to order additional sides. For desert we finished with the mocha latte. It was a lovely light finish to the meal. The wait staff was great and very welcoming. Our server knew the menu and was very helpful. This is our first time in Portland and the food scene is meeting all of our expectations..... 555 is a must!More

This is one of our go to places when we are visiting Portland. The food and service are first rate. We splurged on the testing menu and enjoyed the variety.

Staff/service was fantastic. Perfectly timed courses. Oysters, cheese board, kale salad, squash soup, scallops, caramels and port. All of it irresistibly prepared and presented.
