The service is great at Street and Co. and the food usually is. By that I mean this dining experience was spoiled for me because the oysters, which were local, were very small and not very tasty. The entree Sole Francaise was excellent! I have...eaten at Street and Co. several times over the summer and every other time was magnificent.More

We dined at Street & Co on a weeknight off-season (late September). The Hits: 1. The food, mostly. The food is inventive without being cute or weird, and it is prepared very well. Main course portions are generous. The mussels were the second-best I've ever...had (Amsterdam). The salmon pate was great. The grilled octopus was exquisite. Not so great were the hummus (too dry); the pecan pie (also dry, sort of crumbly and with no goo, and the crust was dense and almost flatbread-like, not flaky at all); and the salad (fresh greens but over-dressed with a very good roasted red pepper vinaigrette). 2. The table service. Our waiter was good and had very good support. Our second-line guy (looks like James Corden) was all over everything, and we wanted for nothing. The Misses: 1. We had reservations for 6:30. We arrived at 6:25 and the lead hostess pointed out that our reservation wasn't until 6:30, and asked us to wait outside - despite there being 3 tables open inside and three outside) and to come back and check with her on time. When we came back in at 6:30, she ignored us for five more minutes. When we were then placed at the worst table in the house, she told us we couldn't have another table until 8:00, even though, yes, those other two tables inside were still open. I had a seat where I could watch her for an hour and a half; she managed to put on a very fake smile for customers a couple times, rapidly reverting to her natural scowl (RBF). Note to management: She needs to be working in a different position if not a different career, for her sake and that of the restaurant. I know she's been there a while, from a prior visit. Maybe she can work a back-office function. 2. The noise. The dining room that shares space with the kitchen is incredibly loud. Conversation was really difficult and my right ear (facing the kitchen) was ringing when we left. Note to ownership: It would not take much time/effort/expense to put some sound-deadening material in the ceiling. Do it. 3. The fumes. It's an efficient kitchen, run by a very good crew. But the vents are inadequate and became overwhelmed when things really got going, and smoke wafted all over for a while. And it's that oily smoke that restaurant kitchens put out, the smoke that really sticks to you. Note to ownership: Upgrade the ventilation too, even if it's a MacGuyver fix. 4. The frantic rushing. The floor staff do not seem to know how to walk at a normal rate of speed. Rush here, rush there. One staff member actually slipped and fell next to our table. Note to staff: It's a small restaurant and nothing is more than about 20 steps away. You are not saving significant time by rushing, and your diners have a hard time relaxing with all the frenetic activity. Slow down a little. Service won't suffer. The Bottom Line for our visit: Good food, but not all of it, and overall an unpleasant experience. Disappointing. Won't be coming back, I'm afraid.More

Restaurant was recommended by local Mainer and boy was this the highlight meal of our trip. My friend even recommended the Scallops in Pernod and they possibly were the best scallops I've ever had. Everything about dining at Street and Co was exceptional from the...moment we arrived until we departed. There are many great restaurants in the city of Portland near the waterfront but this one is a must visit if exceptional seafood is your goal.More

During a recent trip to Portland, ME my husband and I had dinner at this restaurant. We sat outside, in the patio. It was very cozy; there were heaters by the tables since the temperatures dropped considerably after dark. We started our meals with two...different varieties of raw oysters, which were nice, fresh and delicious. I had the Scallops in Pernod and Cream. They were served in a skillet, accompanied by potatoes and vegetables. They were very tasty. My husband ordered a lobster, which came with pasta. He liked it a lot. We washed it all down with a light and refreshing Portuguese wine (I believe it was a Columna Albarino). For dessert my husband ordered vanilla ice cream (it was a tiny portion) and I ordered the blueberry pie (it came with vanilla ice cream on the side). The pie was very disappointing. After dinner, I ordered an Amaretto neat. I, of course, cannot prove it but I believe they served me a generic almond-flavored liqueur and not the real thing. Our server, Ryan, was attentive and pleasant. The restaurant was busy, yet he managed to provide us with excellent service. The restaurant is located in a very picturesque, pedestrian-only, cobblestone street. It reminded me of Europe. Next time we are in Portland, we will go back to this restaurant for dinner.More

We had a fabulous dinner experience. Given a late reservation we could only get a seat at the bar. Lucky accident. We sat among some friendly, lively people (one was an Olympic athlete) and talked for 2 hours. Oh, our food and beverages were wonderful...(sole francaise — yes!) and service was engaging any prompt. Really a special evening.More

Enjoyed our meal so much, that we went back another night for dinner when the restaurant we had plan to eat at, wasn't good. Glad they were able to accommodate us on the outside deck. Oysters on the half shell, Octopus, blue fin tuna, etc....Everything we ordered was fantastic. Don't miss this placeMore

We made reservation 4 weeks ahead of time and were asked to wait for our table. It was opening time. Service was ok but lacked extensive menu knowledge for a restaurant of this caliber. Food was awesome. Taste was was perfect. Beer menu a little...limited for Portland.More

We have eaten here many times Ana it was always my favorite in Portland. To me, they need to reinvent their menu. The combinations are outdated and un some instances just weird. We had to send back the Caesar as it was soggy. All was...well cooked. Just boring. I cook better at home. Service was excellentMore

We were looking forward to a good meal at this old-Portland spot. We were NOT disappointed. The wait staff were unfailingly attentive and knowledgable. Our server even knew the ins and outs of the rather unusual Italian wine list. Both my husband's branzino and my...cod special were off-the-charts delicious and beautifully presented. The bread is too good and they are generous with it. We loved that they offered a small serving of ice cream so we could have a bite of dessert without feeling terribly guilty or overstuffed. And the open kitchen is endlessly entertaining. We will be back as soon as we can!More

The restaurant is crowded but has a welcoming vibe. The staff is friendly and were very accommodating when we asked to be seated elsewhere. Enjoyed the conversation in the communal bar area while waiting for table. The food was excellent. The scallop dish was one...of the best I’ve ever had. My husband enjoyed the seafood stew. Reservations are hard to get so plan ahead.More
