We went for the oysters and were more than happy. The service was great and the oysters were better. Reasonable prices comparatively.

Heard about J's from our hotel front staff at Fireside Inn & Suites... so good we ate there 3 times!! Super friendly staff and great value for price. Without a doubt, the lobster stew and bouillabaisse were to die for!! It gets crowded and out door seating is a premium during nice weather. Jake the chef, came out to tell... More

From the 4-5 dishes we ordered, only the simplest (linguine marinara) was good. The sea food casarolle was radicularly small and very oily, the lobster soup also oily and the shrimp linguine very plain. Service was very good.

We got the shrimp linguine and the scallops. It exceeded our expectations based on the look of the restaurant. The wait was also fairly long, but it was a Saturday night. The service was also very fast. They really try to get customers in and out.

Have been here before which is why I returned. The food is good as well as the service/views. The seafood is fresh with various types of dishes offered.

Whenever I come to Portland, J's is always on the list, at least one time. Oysters and beer (Allagash White to be precise) are the reason. Some say the place looks "dumpy". I would consider that a compliment; this place is what the Portland wharf area is really like and the staff are all very friendly and efficient.

Small, crowded, and noisy....we loved it. The waitress was awesome, the food was really good - nothing fancy, and the prices were reasonable.

J Oyster immediately struck me as unique when the waiter advised that they served absolutely no fried food. Otherwise, their menu included all the Maine standards. Our group sampled shrimp cocktail; lobster salad, a bucket of steamed clams, and lobster rolls. The steamers got a rave review and the rest of the items were all at least good. The interior... More

This was the perfect place to "pig out" on steamers and lobster rolls. The food was fairly priced, fresh and delicious. We especially enjoyed sitting out by the pier, but there is plenty of room at their bar and indoor seating. Affordable city parking for the day is nearby, but the lot fills up quickly since the restaurant is close... More

Avoid this place like the plague. I'm appalled that people would wait up to 45 minutes to eat here, much less give this place a rating of more than a star or two. Dining experiences like this make me angry because they are clearly taking full advantage of their location and serving food fit for a dog. My group started... More
