Nice place right on the water that doesn't look like much but it is! We had raw scallops that melted in your mouth. Great steamers, lobster roll and fish sandwich was the best I had in Maine.

J's is an unassuming building been Commercial Street wharf area. This is a shanty with visiting and tasting great seafood. Try the lobster bisque, clams and pretty much again else because you will enjoy it

Often quite busy this is a place that is stuck in time and completely charming. The lobster bisque is one of my favorites. I was surprised once to get oysters to learn that they were from the Chesapeake Bay and not Maine!

This place is great. It's not fancy. Menu is basic but most people should be able to find something seafood related. The wait can be long because the restaurant is small but if you are willing to eat at the bar, you may be able to get served more quickly. We sat at the bar and the service was terrific.... More

J's Oyster Bar is a true dive in every sense of the word but it is also a icon in Portland and not to be missed if you like dive bars. You do not go there for the food but they do have it. A couple of drinks and a bucket of steamers is really what you need. The place... More

This place was dated. The food was not up to par with the prices. I ordered a burger because the menu did not look appealing. I did have the bucket o clams and everyone in our party felt it was the best thing, which was only steamed. The others in our party felt the price was too high and that... More

We got the lowdown on this place from someone who lives in Portland. It's a bit of a dive with a somewhat grungy feel, but that just adds to the charm. We had terrific steamers, lobster stew and lobster rolls. We won't be going back to the touristy place on the main drag. J's is it for us from now... More

An enjoyable atmosphere right on the water with enticing tourist attractions nearby. The staff was warm, friendly and very accommodating. The menu offers a wide variety bound to please many a palate. If you enjoy seafood, put this place on your bucket list of things to do while you're in town. If you like the blues, be sure to stop... More

We go here very year for a great lobster roll - no reason to go elsewhere. Rather than wait for a table outside we sit at the bar where we have never had to wait.

Thank john w
