Usually make J's a Oyster a stop when visiting Portland. Their produce are so fresh everything that you eat here tastes as if it's just come off the boat.

J's is a landmark on the Portland waterfront. It's been there since I can remember. Every time I go to Portland J's is the first place we eat. The seafood is right off the fisherman's boat! The preparation is exactly what you'd expect from a seafood restaurant. The selections are numerous. A bucket of steamers, baked stuffed haddock, a cold... More

Well, we ate here every day while staying in Portland. Enough said! Steamers were great, lobster too. Staff was friendly and service was excellent. We met great people. We are repeat customers because of our good experience at J's three years ago on our way to Nova Scotia.

This place is rustic, it's MAINE---it's crowded, it's FUN, it has delicious food, and great staff !! It's not a dive, it's a diner--and it has what you would expect from a Maine diner--good Maine seafood, and a few other surprises, prepared by amazing local chefs ! Hamburgers, great---chowder, great, steam clams served in funky buckets. And it's on the... More

Service was good but food was lacking. It was busy when we came but got right in. A large party then sat behind us, sort of ruining our enjoyment/the atmosphere. The food was a little overpriced.

First day in Portland had lobster and crab rolls. Great place to go. Sat on deck overlooking bay. Doesn't look like much from outside but place is very deep. Would go back again.

Stopped in for steamers and they were delicious. Plenty for two in the small bucket. Waitress was very friendly and checked on us often to make sure we were satisfied. J's gets very busy so you may need to wait for a table but it is worth the wait.

It's the tourist spot that's like a local dive. It's on the water and it's pretty much OK. We both had the Lobster Roll - but after you've had a lobster roll at Red's in Wiscasset no other Lobster Roll will compare. Hit 'em up ...

Right in Old Port on the water, we sat outside on the small deck facing the docked boats. I had a yummy lobster roll with homemade chips. Boys had burgers which they said were great. Husband had BLT. Prices very reasonable. Service great.

The food was good, but I will not recommend this restaurant due to the absolutely terrible service we received here. And I don't even mean slow service or mixing up orders--the waitress was downright rude. She was sarcastic and snarky when we asked questions and she acted like she was truly inconvenienced by our being there. I felt pressured to... More
