I travel to Maine every so often and when I do I prefer J's Oyster. It is that Cheer's bar (Boston) feel with close quarters and you can get a doctor to a sales person and everything in between there. Conversation is great and the...More

We got so much seafood. We literally ordered every type and split it. Oysters, clams, mussels, crab, lobster, shrimp cocktail and grilled shrimp. Felt like Christmas Eve. Just come here for seafood and have a feast. It’s a small place and gets packed so I...More

Good restaurant if you like seafood. I am not a seafood person so my choice was limited. Good location

The hotel shuttle driver suggested this little known local getaway. Absolutely wonderful. You simply won’t regret it. Great service, food, atmosphere and lively crowd.

I had an out of town guest from the Deep South. He wanted shellfish. J's was the only place that leaped to mind. I had oysters and steamed clams. He had a lobster dinner and clams. Dinner was a big hit. During the tourist seasons,...More

We stopped into J's on a whim on MLK day. We tried another place which was too full, so decided to pop into here. We are very glad we did! What seems like a dingy place on the outside, is a charming neighborhood place on...More

J's is the quintessential Portland dive. Characters abound. Occupy a stool long enough and they will talk to you and invite you to play trivia. Go for the raw appetizer and a bloody. Awesome, pure ocean goodness and just the right amount of salt and...More

J's Oyster screams LOCALS, LOCALS, LOCALS! So my husband took me here for some good authentic lobster. When you first see the insides of this restaurant you think, oh boy...locals and bar scene. But, if you can look beyond this "hole in the wall" feel,...More

No. And it gets pretty crowded on weekend evenings. When you arrive, give your name to the staff by the register inside the main entrance; they will put you on a list.
