This place is amazing and so glad it was part of my Birthday Weekend. They did an amazing job from the reservation to wine pairing advice. Service was amazing, these guys know what they are doing as does the kitchen. The fix farm fresh menu...was great, I enjoyed one of the best steaks I've ever had. We will be back and if any friends or family ask where to go for dinner in Portland this is the place. Thanks guys !More

On the last night of our vacation in Portland, my wife and I went to the Back Bay Grill for dinner. Given the reputation of this restaurant, our expectations were extremely high, and we were not disappointed. I have eaten at many outstanding restaurants throughout...the United States and Europe over the years on my business travels and I would rate the dinner we had as one of the best I have ever had in my life. Chef Larry Matthews really crushed it. Everything was perfectly prepared and beautifully plated. For our first course, we both had Ginger Gold Apple and Butternut Squash Agnolotti. It was absolutely delicious. For our main course, we both also had the Grilled Fillet Mignon with English Stilton, Potato Gnocchi, Two Farmers Farm Carrots, and Old School Bernaise Sauce. Both of our steaks were amazing - center cuts, cooked precisely medium, as we requested, and very tender. Our meal was augmented by an awesome, perfectly-chilled bottle of Sea Smoke 10 Pinot Noir, 2017 vintage, an incredible wine which was recommended by General Manager Adrian. Our dessert was an Orange Short Cake with Walnut Crumble, Buttermilk Ice Cream, Dulce De Leche and Local Strawberries. It was wonderful. Finally, the service provided our waiter Chris was also outstanding. While the Back Bay Grill is on the expensive side, the quality of the dinner, professionalism of the staff and ambience made it worth every penny.More

I booked this restaurant as soon as I saw it reopen. Me and my husband were on vacation and it was both of our birthdays. The atmosphere is very cozy. There weren’t many tables due to covid and they advised us we were the only...seating at our table and to take our time. Our servers were great, very friendly and we got a few acknowledgement and a happy birthday dessert. The food was amazing and presented very well. The owner also acts as chef and gave us a wave when we left. Our best meal in Portland. Highly recommend.More

Book well in advance and then look forward to an amazing meal. The atmosphere is very comfortable - not too fancy, not too casual - it's just right. The service was great. From the moment we stepped in the door until we left, the staff...were attentive without hovering and we had everything we needed. We ordered the seared foie gras (politically incorrect, yes.... and amazingly delicious) and salad for our appetizers. For our mains - Filet mignon and bacon wrapped monk fish. The filet was cook perfectly. The monk fish - delicate and light. Sadly, we did not have enough room for dessert but I'm sure that would have been amazing too. Wine list was a bonus, great selection.More

We loved our dinner at Back Bay Grill. I had the lamb and my husband had the duck. Both were excellent, fresh with wonderful flavors. Service was attentive and fun. It was a lovely night. Highly recommend.

Wonderful service and food. The crab cake was outstanding. Great flavor and presentation. We both had the duck for our entree and it didn’t disappoint. The farro and kale served with it were delicious also delicious. Unfortunately, no room for dessert. Extensive wine list and...our waiter answered questions well. Highly recommend.More

As always, an excellent experience, from the service to the food to the atmosphere. An especially nice touch was that the tables not being used were all set, right down to the vases of flowers and lit candles.

We caught them right after their COVA19 opening. 1) They are taking the pandemic very seriously. I saw my server sanitizing the wine list after I handled it. Very good procedures. 2) The menu, while limited due to COVID19 was great. 4 appys, 4 main...courses, and two deserts. Elody and I split the salad (wow, wow, wow) and the crab cake. I fact, I mentioned to Elocy that I could have had two salads, and be done...it was that good. Elody had the lobster, I had the duck. Both were great. Oh, the service was friendly and knowledgeable without being too familiar. Perfect combination of friendly and deference. One little aside...great music too. Would I do this again? In a phrase..Hell yes.! Do it. you won't be disappointed.More

I realize this review is 5 months late in coming, but I finally joined trip advisor and had to leave a review for one of my favorite spots in Portland. My husband and I went for Valentines day and the food and service was superb....Their crab cakes may be one of my favorite things in the world and I always have to order that to start off the meal. For our mains, I got the duck and my husband had the lamb. Both were fantastic. I can't wait to return when things start to get back to normal.More
