We're new in town and I took my parents here because they've been written up in so many best-of lists. The seafood was fresh enough but nothing was any better than any other fried food place around. Everything was very average. I will also say... we sat outside and there were numerous rats out there. We had to move inside... More

We were in our last day of a vacation to Maine, having had very good lobster rolls up and down the coast. Susan's was on a list of Portland places for lobster rolls, so we went. It is west of downtown several miles in an area of Vietnamese take out laces and auto body shops. The people there are very... More

Upon checking into our hotel, I asked the desk clerk if she knew of a place with great fried clams in Portland. Without hesitation, she grinned and recommended Susan's. The fried clams were excellent and well prepared. The clams are on the small side and so are the stomachs thus they're not as flavorful as you might find outside of... More

Tried Susan's for the first time tonight, primarily because of a deal through Portland Dine Around. The deal was excellent, food was very good. Prices seemed to be average so wouldn't be out of the question even without a "deal". The biggest downfall is something a bit out of their control. It was unusually warm in Portland today (90s) and... More

I had a super delicious meal and I even got to watch them bread and fry it all right in front of me. It was tasty, HOT, and filling. Not a lot of atmosphere just the sounds made by happy diners.

I have had all kinds of food there. Definitely the best value in Portland. Everything is fried to perfection.

Basic fish and chips place. Décor didn't offer any kind of real atmosphere. Back patio seemed messy and cluttered with no set scheme going. Seemed to be just tossed together. The lobsta roll and fries were good but not for $13.99. Portions were small and I was still hungry after the meal.

In a foodie city known for remarkable fish and seafood, J's just ok. Had ok chowder, lobster rolls, fried haddock and cole slaw here, and, while it was fine, it was not nearly as good as Fisherman’s Grill. Was better than 3 Buoys.

It had been several years since I had enjoyed fish and chips at Susan's with family who live locally. We stopped by for crabmeat rolls on Father's Day and were disappointed. The area to order was not clearly designated and we stood for some time at the counter thinking we were in the wrong spot. Our crab rolls were bland... More

And took it to the east end to enjoy with a friend. Plentiful, fried well but the seafood was stored in water and you can tell. Life would be different if they made their own tartar sauce but overall tasty.
