My wife does most of the research so, though she knew about this place in advance, I did not and we did not have reservations. While wandering about thinking about dinner, we ended up at Fore Street. Fortunately, after an hour at the bar, we were able to get a table. The bartender was not particularly friendly but efficient. Our... More

Could not get a reservation for 5 at 6:30 so settled for 5:45. Staff was gracious and knowledgeable. Fore St. Specializes in wood oven, spit roasted and grilled food. Mussels from the wood oven were over the top. Tender, moist, flavorful. The picky eater in the group ordered hanger steak that she said was the best she ever. Others ordered... More

Great to explore as there are expensive trendy shops then mid range, better quality (to me, of course), friendlier, more welcoming shops and restaurants. Good there are public restrooms right in the middle. I like going end to end as it gets quieter at the ends, fewer intense crowded stores, and unexpected bargains.

A very bad experience on our last night of a two week trip in Maine! Food was less than average and at an extremely high price. Our server was rude and snooty. There are too many wonderful places to eat in Portland - don't waste your time or money at Fore.

We couldn't get a reservation here 2 months in advance so we showed up at 6pm for one of the walk-in tables and got a table an hour later so we went out for a couple cocktails and when we returned our table was ready at 7pm as promised. It's a beautiful but busy/noisy modern yet rustic restaurant so if... More

Everyone told us to try Fore Street and now we know why. This restaurant is fantastic! The food was amazing - we had the halibut and the bluefish - and worth every penny. The service was attentive, although the kitchen was a little slow at times. We didn't mind as it gave us time to enjoy the atmosphere and our... More

Try and sit in the tables right next to the kitchen...it's amazing how hard they work! Fantastic wines, exceptional food, great service.

This is a go to place when you visit Portland! It is owned and run by the same team as Street & Co. In portland's Old Port as well. Classic exposed brick interior with open views of the staff at work in the kitchen........I should also mention that the wait staff is one of the best in the city. Their... More

This is a difficult review to write. Fore Street has an interesting menu, but nothing that is especially appealing....an herb will be added that seems contradictory to the dish. And, if you want seafood, almost all is served chilled. The Hanger Steak was flavorful but a bit tough and priced at $38. For that price, I prefer filet mignon, but... More

We loved the Maine Potters Market. The two ladies working there really knew their stuff. And it was lovely seeing all the pottery from so many artists.
