When in Maine...... I think one of the most difficult decisions isn’t to try a Maine lobster roll, but more often, at which restaurant. For my wife and I, we really wanted to see the city center and searched for restaurants in the area that...had great reviews of their lobster rolls. Furthermore, we really wanted a place that was offering dine-in options, even during the pandemic. The reviews led us to The Highroller. At first glance, the restaurant seems to be a basic diner, but on closer inspection, I quickly learned I was very wrong. I’ve never before been to a diner that had a oyster bar in the front of the restaurant, or a row of local beers on tap. In addition, the food coming from the kitchen looked like nothing I had seen before. Our initial concern for our safety from COVID contamination was quickly relieved as we saw how well the staff cleaned the tables, and the efficient contact-less method of ordering. Our next great challenge was to determine how we wanted our sought after lobster roll. I didn’t realize how many choices we would have. From a classic bun, to a cheese crisp taco. We decided to get one of each. The second choice was what type of sauce would be drizzled over the roll. I went with the natural butter while my wife, who selected the cheese crisp, went with with a jalapeño mayo. We decided to order a bakers dozen of the most fresh, local oysters. As they were laid on our table, with a side of mignonette and cocktail sauce/horseradish, the server let us know that they were plucked from the sea that same morning. A half dozen coming from Merepoint and the other from Freeport. The oysters were some of the best I have ever had, and I’m from the Northwest and have had my fair share of oysters. Just when I thought lunch couldn’t get any better, our lobster rolls arrived. All I can say is that they were both amazing. I think I prefer the classic to the cheesy crisp, but just barely. The roll was a beautiful golden color, and the lobster was the best I’ve ever had. It seemed like more claw than tail as it was very soft and was not chewy, at all. So, in conclusion, I would absolutely recommend this place to anyone in the area, or even outside the area. The food is definitely worth traveling for. Oh, and the oysters were so good, we ordered another round.More

One in our party wanted a lobster roll and this place was rated high for that sandwich. The other three didn't want a lobster roll. The menu was not very enticing. I opted for the 14.00 burger. It was cooked correctly but was largely tasteless,...even with the choice of sauce. For 14 bucks, it was a disappointment. How do you mess up a burger? The others had hotdogs, which at 6 bucks were good but not great. The potato salad was drowning in mayo, a major mistake in any restaurant. All in all, don't bother with this place unless you like hotdogs. FYI, the one party who wanted the lobster roll decided it wasn't worth the 23.00 price tag.More

Unique restaurant with various lobster, hamburger and other sandwich-styled options. I got e traditional lobster roll and everything was great. Crunchy, buttered bread with huge chucks of fresh lobster. I got the lime and jalapeño sauces which were flavorful. The fries were good with their...curry ketchup. They have Maine craft beer on tap. Friendly service. Average prices for good portions. Surprisingly large seating areas. I’d eat here again for sure.More

OMG. We loved everything on the menu, everything about the place, and the staff! The food is fantastic. We had the lobster tail on a stick (amazing), the oysters (beyond fresh and delicious), the Whoopie Pie (thanks Jacky!), and the most amazing burger ever.... the...surf and turf burger. To die for. They also have these amazing dipping sauces. I highly highly recommend this restaurant.More

My husband and I have been to Portland 3 times and stopped here on out first trip, we go every time we come back. The vibe is really cool and they are handling covid really well. Everything is touch-less now and you order/pay through your...phone and they just bring it out to your table. Tables are definitely distanced and it felt super clean. We usually sit at the bar, which wasn’t an option this time. But there are about 4 tables in the front room, 2 high top seating areas, and outdoor seating. Now about the food - every time we come I get a lobster roll. We have tried a couple flavored mayos but the lime one is my FAVORITE. I love citrus and it has such a lime flavor, it is so good. The lobster rolls are a decent size with a lot of good, tender lobster meat. Some rolls I have had are not really packed with meat but I think this one is. We have also had their fries, lobster bisque, and lobster lollipops and everything has always been fresh and delicious. All staff we have ever interacted with were super friendly, so service is great. Also have a great beer selection! Would highly recommend and we will definitely be back.More

My bf and I got 2 lobster rolls, a bacon grilled cheese, and fries. We took it to go because seating was limited because of covid but the food was still delicious.

This place was recommended by a friend and after reading the reviews we were excited to try this place out. We arrived at 3:15 on at Saturday afternoon and was told it would be a 45 - 1 hour wait but after 40 minutes are...number was called. My wife had the Lobster Cheese Crisp Taco and I had the Surf and Turf Burger and fries. The burger was average with some lobster meat on top. The Taco shell is made out of Chees and was a good idea that just didn’t turn out. The waitress was good but not friendly. Overall the food is kind of unique but average and way too expensive. Been there, done that and will not return.More

Wow! So good! We were a large party so there were lots of choices on our table. I heard the lobster roll was very good. The tacos were extremely messy but also extremely tasty. A favorite was the lobster corn dog. Everyone loved the lobster...and grilled cheese, a favorite of mine. If I'm in the area again, I would definitely revisit!More

Excellent lobster roll, burger and fries! Sat outside and enjoyed the artsy district; lots of shops around the pedestrian area. The service was quick and friendly. They were careful and restricted the amount of customers inside, but if it’s a nice day, you want to...sit outside, anyway!More

Lobster rolls are usually served cold in Maine.
