Good Seafood in Newport, ME

A very nice place to stop and have some seafood. I had fish and chips. The fish was haddock, very flaky and tasty. The batter was light and tasty. Home chips were good. Hot fudge sundae was awesome. I was there with four others and all food was eaten. The service was outstanding. The waitress made suggestions and even brought some strawberries and whip cream for one of us because she loved strawberries and we didn’t even ask. I would go back.

Friends chose this restaurant because they eat there frequently. The Angler is a local hot spot. It’s a casual dining. The meals are great. We ordered the Angler and divided with plenty for both. The clams were yummy. The whole dinner was so good I forgot to use Tarter sauce til the last three bites. The best thing, however, was that I had no after fried food pain. I usually can’t eat fried food because most use cheap oils and reuse oil throughout the day. Not the Angler. Our friend had Cole slaw and it looked SO good and creamy not to mention being huge. Our waitress was in good spirits.

Nice friendly place

We went for lunch and were very pleased. Folks were friendly, waitress was nice and efficient. We split the haddock chowder, broiled haddock and scallops, and onion rings. Chowder was very good, lots of fish and nicely loose broth, how I like it. The haddock portion was a good size and cooked perfectly, and the scallops were especially good. Onion rings were awesome! Oh yeah and the coleslaw was excellent! Lots of items on the menu to try when we go back.

Pricey lobster roll

The first time we went with my cousin the food was hot and plenty, we all had the haddock. This last Sunday the 8th of august I ordered a lobster roll at market price well most restaurants are charging between $16 and $18 for a lobster roll. Was shocked that I was charged $27, will not get it there again. My husbands fries were cold and the haddock was really thin and small. It was confusing in the restaurant and a hot mess. We could hear Waitresses apologizing. The gentleman at the cash checking people out was told by a waitress he was needed in the back, omg, people were waiting to pay their bill. Crazy

VERY TERRIBLE MEAL @ $60.44 UNCOOKED SCOLLOPS & FRIES UNSANITARY CONDITIONS TRASH HANDLING THEN HANDLING FOOD.

Today 06/03/2021. Went to have dinner with my Mom around 6:45 PM. We first couldn't get garden salads as they ran out of lettuce also ran out of dinner rolls. That alone was very disappointing. So we had to get Ceaser Salads. We both Ordered the Large Fried Sea Scollop Dinner. The Scollops were not cooked and almost raw and so slimmy the batter was falling off the scallops. They were translucent and tasted slimmy and sticky like. Also for a Large you only recieve 6 scallops so its really 3 cut in half. We brought this to the employees attention but told it was all normal and the way they cook the scallops and that 6 Scollops is a Normal Large Serving. I don't agree and have eaten plenty of Scollops as a Life Long Mainer. "Also we were sitting right by the kitchen and saw waitresses placing trash into garbage and then handling peoples food without washing their hands." I looked online and the scallops defiantly not cooked properly. I won't know if either my Mom or I will get sick from this $60.44 meal until tomorrow. I'm praying we don't. But We will not ever go to the Newport Maine Resturant again. It was not the waitress's fault, but I feel an inexperienced Kitchen Staff & Cooks. I hope this will be corrected by Senior Management or the Owner's. I am Upset Over the Wasted and Loss of $60.44 plus Tip on a Dr appt Meal. Wish I would have known they were training their chef

We got there on a Saturday about 4:15. Had to wait about 20 minutes which was fine. Had heard great things and brought out of town guests with us to try it out. Two people got the minnow haddock with cut potatoes. The fish was under cooked and some potatoes were burnt and some were Undercooked. Another one had the fried shrimp and she only ate half because most of them were undercooked and very chewy. I had the chicken strips with french fries. Some french fries were cold in the middle and the chicken wasn’t cooked all the way through. We all left a good amount of a meal on our plates. It took a while for us to get our meals so we didn’t bother trying to send them back. We did let our waitress know that our meals were undercooked and she said that she figured because they have a new cook. Not sure if we will be returning

Great food and terrific service!

This location never disappoints in the food department, and it is consistently great. Our server Brittany was even better than the food. She was on top of it in a packed house. She had a great sense of humor and was totally into the banter our table had with her each time she came to check on us. Good service makes the food even better and she did a great job. We will ask for her next time we go! Anglers is lucky to have her!

GOOD FOOD FOR A REASONABLE PRICE

Stopped here for dinner. We were seated promptly and our order taken quickly. The server was friendly. I ordered the fried shrimp and my husband got grilled haddock with asparagus. The food came quickly and was pretty good. Apparently this restaurant is well known for lobster dishes and steamed clams/clam chowder. We didn't order those, but heard other diners raving about the clam chowder and lobster rolls.

huge portions, fun decorations

We went here with my grandpa and had a great meal. There were a ton of different fried seafood options, and I had a delicious lobster roll. The portions are seriously out of control (in a good way). My fiancé got fried haddock and I think he must have gotten an entire fish! We should have taken pictures, but forgot. This is a great little restaurant!

Son't go to Anglers !

Anglers has changed . It used to be a reliable seafood restaurant - a treat ! It has changed...my husband and I ordered the haddock sandwich ...I had 3 little fried balls on my bare hamburger bun ...you couldn't close it ...had to eat two of them without the bun ..no lettuce or tomato ...our bill came and the waitress asked how was it ? Naked ...no taste and poor fish...she said you have to ask for lettuce and tomato...so how the heck were we to know that ? Never again ..a waste of money !

We found our restaurant!

Since our seafood restaurant in Bangor closed, we have been looking for one that we can enjoy. We found it! Friendly staff, delicious food, generous portions and a wonderful atmosphere. I highly recommend it.

Best dessert menu ever. Top notch seafood and sides in a fun venue.

Oh my goodness. So delicious. Fast friendly service. Haddock and scallops broiled and a tasty maple rub. Freshest cole slaw sides and tasty baked potatoe. My pickled beets were spicy and a big portion. 99 cent beer on tap??? Who does this? And it was great local beer, too!! Huge ice cream puff dessert smothered in hot fudge to share. It was all amazing. Stop here for sure. We were hungry on our way from Baxter state park driving to Boothbay harbor. So yummy and so filling.

Been wanting to try Anglers

Been wanting to try Anglers for quite sometime, today was the day. The parking lot was pretty full, that’s usually a good sign. Inside is decorated in fishing theme, typical family restaurant seating. Very friendly staff, we had Rosie as our waitress. We ordered the fried smelt and buffalo chicken wrap. Husband raved about the smelt, wrap was ok, would not order again.

Sunday lunch!

Great food made from scratch. We ordered the fried haddock sandwich and lobster and mac. Everyone enjoyed their meal. I cooked in the restaurant industry for many years and their oil was clean and the batter perfect! We also ordered the spicy mussels. That was a hit. Highly recommend this place. Worth a detour. Staff was wonderful and a bit entertaining at times. Clearly a local favorite.

My sister has been raving about this place!

My sister has been raving about this place since she moved to Maine a few years ago. I went to visit in June (I live in Las Vegas) and HAD to order the fried clam bellies. No one out here even knows what they are! Yes, they were pricey ($35) but a good-sized poirtion and excellent sides (squash- best ever) and beets were my choices. Tasted my sister's fried shrimp...huge portion for $20 and EXCELLENT. Wish we had one of these restaurants in Las Vegas!
