Nov07,2020. The restaurant was extremely slow for a Saturday night dinner experience which was to our benefit, at least I thought. I ordered the black bear burger and on my second bite felt something that I thought was tough lettuce. After pulling it out of...the burger I realized it was some sort of waxy paper. The waitress caught wind of what had happened and asked if I wanted to have it fixed in the kitchen. I said it wasn't necessary and was fine with the way things were. At the end of the bar you could hear the other waitress (not ours) and the cook talking about the incident. The waitress was explaining what happened while the cook discredited any wrong doing. The open discussion between staff members about a wrong doing made it very uncomfortable for the customer. We couldn’t get out of there quick enough and it’s too bad as I am a local resident of 4 years and was looking forward to future visits to your restaurant. We were charged the full amount and nothing was taken off for the terrible experience. Not sure I will revisit this place again. I do have a photo and would be happy to share with the owner if needed.More

Our family enjoyed a great meal at the Black Bear. The service was great and the food very tasty. We enjoyed shepards pie and bangers n mash. The appetizers were great too. Definitely would go back.

Stopped in for dinner. We like to go to the black Bear when we want a guaranteed great meal. Not this this time. Pork pot sticker appetizer is still awesome. But it ended there. Trout special was was tasteless and a soggy mess. Not sure...how It was prepared but there was liquid on my plate and the coating/skin was soggy. The fish and chips was also no flavor and panko crusted. Fries were also soggy On the bright side beer was cold and service was awesome.More

We chose this place for dinner based on so many other positive reviews, and we were so glad we did. We went early on a Saturday night (around 5:00) so there was no wait for a table. We had the best waiter - Deric. He...was friendly, knowledgeable and attentive. I had the lobster roll and it was very good. My husband equally enjoyed his bangers and mash. Dessert was a delicious Bailey's cheesecake. (My only disappointment was that the brownie sundae shown on their website is no longer available). Funny story about the service... we happened to be there when Serena Williams was having her meltdown at the US Open, and because we could only see the TV but not hear it, both the owner and our waiter were so accommodating by continually coming over to us with updates of the drama. We had a lot of fun with them. We ended up moving from our table over to the bar for an after dinner cocktail and more interaction with the staff. We really enjoyed our evening there and will definitely return the next time we're up in Maine.More

Found this by accident and decided to go in and was so happy we did....first off we had to take vacation photos outside by the bear décor and that was fun.....inside it was like a real irish pub! and so was the food! We got...there early for dinner so it was not crowded but as we left it was filling up....very clean, pleasant service and a fun dinner!More

We stopped by this place for the first time it was nice inside but fairly small, a man was singing which was nice. I ordered the 1/2 rack of ribs they were OK but tasted kind of old and reheated, and their prices were a...little high.More

I would like to give this restaurant more stars the food wasn’t bad the servings were small for the price but when we first came in we were told there was a 45 minute wait for a table for five so we opted to grab...the bar which really is not a very sociable way to have dinner . five minutes later a party of six walked in and they were seated immediately I went up to the maître d’ which I found out was the owner and asked did that just happen and he said yes you said you wanted to sit at the bar rather rudely. I said yes because it was a 45 minute wait well he goes a table opened up. It s not a very big restaurant and he is the owner he should know and look for when is tables will be clearing before telling someone 45 minutesMore

We just had a beautiful delicious filling extended family meal and can’t wait to go back. I had a full rack of baby back ribs which I begrudgingly shared with my family members! Fortunately they shared their seafood bake with fabulous lobster shrimp and nicely...cooked white fish. One of kids shared the pulled pork with me which I am thankful for. Beautifully cooked and delicious. My wife’s twin filets we’re perfectly medium rare as requested and possibly the finest dish of the evening. Outstanding. The salads were excellent — we shared both the house salads as well as a Caesar salad. Even the rolls were warm and delicious. The tap menu offered Guinness and Smithwick’s as well as many rotating taps. I had a Smithwick’s and and a Switchback and both were excellent. The service was prompt, polite, and around for questions. Atmosphere: perfect. Guy playing guitar in a pleasant and not overbearing way that augmented the entire experience. Can’t wait to go back.More

They have an extremely limited menu, but what they do have is very good. Has an Irish pub vibe, until you get the check. :) Yes, prices are high but then the food isn't pubfare either - all good. Picky eaters may have a problem...eating here.More
