Most lobster pounds are ramshackle, roadside affairs with no atmosphere. We sat outside in a beautiful setting on the edge of the woods, overlooking a small harbor. While excellent, the lobsters are a little pricey. The 20 minute drive is well worth it to get away from the tourist bustle of Bar Harbor.

Good food.....great views. Spectacular location on the sound with friendly staff. Many ways to get lobster and surprisingly nice prime rib.

My family and I ate at Abel's primarily for nostalgic reasons as we grew up in Maine and had fond memories of lobster dinners as children. We ate outside at a picnic table and it is certainly a lovely setting with the water right there and boats on the sound. We all had lobster, potatoes, corn on the cob and... More

Overheard a group at dinner comparing Abel's to another lobster pound so decided to try it out. Sat outdoors, overlooking the dock. The staff was attentive. Lobster club wrap was amazing. Would definitely go back.

We went here with a large group (8 of us) for a birthday dinner. We sat outside, which is basically just picnic tables on the grass, but right near the water which is nice. The menu is limited to lobster and prime rib/steak choices. The prime rib was excellent.

The harbor view is nice but at Able's that's where the fun stops. Over cooked Lobster that had been purged of its flavor and tossed on a plate, watery drinks and pitiful excuse for a blueberry pie make this place a never again for me. The menu is limited and salad sad. We were looking for a splash -out instead... More

Yes, Abel's is expensive. Yes, Abel's has a very short season (late June through early September). Yes, Abel's dining room decor seems outdated. Yes, the oceanfront picnic tables and stunning sunset views are weather dependent. But Abel's is excellent at what they do (lobster everything) and clearly one of the best dining experiences on Mount Desert Island! Make your reservations... More

Fantastic lobster pound well away from touristy Bar Harbor in an idyllic harbor side location. Watch the lobster boats come in and out of the harbor as yours is steamed nearby over a wood burning fire. Perfectly casual and the lobsters were awesome!

Dining at Abel's Lobster Pound is a unique and thoroughly enjoyable dining experience. Both inside and outside seating is available. My wife and I chose outdoor seating at a picnic table under large shade trees overlooking Somes Sound at Northeast Harbor. We thought the lobster rolls and whole lobsters were rather pricey when compared to what we paid at other... More

We always come here for the lobster, but also for the great experience of eating outdoors at a picnic table by Somes Sound. The lobster is fresh and the service attentive.
