Right over the water at the entrance of Southwest Harbor. A working lobster pound...watch the boats bring in live lobsters...point at your choice...and the crew will cook it up for you. Pic nic style tables...great burgers...for those who don;t want sea food!

Have tried for years to eat at Abel's but they close the day before Labor Day and we enjoy Maine in the fall. Finally, went in July and definitely worth the wait. Excellent setting on the water at Somes Sound and awesome food. Lobster dinner was delicious and served with the customer in mind. Lobster cut in half which made... More

First, I should say, ALL the places we got lobster in Maine were terribly expensive. My daughter ordered the lobster roll. It was both good and about twice the size of some others we had gotten for the same price. I got the sautéed lobster and was sad to discover that they had over cooked it. I suspect they sautéed... We went here for a real lobster dinner, Maine style and were so happy we did. There are tables outside with a view of the harbor and lobsters cooking over wood fires caught that day. The staff was lovely and the food was perfect. Finished off with some blueberry pie and brownie sundaes. Then a walk down to the docks... More

There is a lot of competition in the area for Lobster. You can pay as much as you want for the experience. Abel's is a great value and wonderful location without the hassle, parking challenges and crowds found in downtown Bar Harbor. A truly great value without the feeling that you are dining in a "shack". The service was truly... More

Abel's has one of the prettiest views that you can ever have while eating dinner. We had a wonderful lobster dinner at Abel's, on the first night that they were open for the season. We stopped by there the night before, and were surprised that they were not yet open for the season as of late June; hey, we're from... More

MDI's most upscale lobster pound actually has table service and refined atmosphere inside, but for lunch sit at outside picnic tables and take in the views. Bring layers as usually windy. We were entertained by a bald eagle soaring and perching nearby and this is one of the best lobster rolls on the island. Also lobster salad good and I'm... More

Amazing fresh lobster and view. There are well maintained picnic tables on the hill with a few tucked away in the edges of the woods, we sat at the 10 seat bar with a view of the water.
