Very friendly place. Delicious Lobster dinner for $17.95 with one side. Local place, clean, comfortable, great drinks.

We loved this place! I got lobster stew that was the winning choice at our table! My husband got lobster and thought it was good. Our waitress was friendly and kind. We would go back

One of the things I like best about visiting Maine is getting lobster. I've had it from other places, but Ruth & Wimpy's is the best. We had a large party and decided that it would be easier to get dinner to go. It was...delicious. My daughter and I shared a Shore Dinner (2 big lobsters, clams, mussels, and corn). Others in the party got fried Maine shrimp (called popcorn shrimp in other parts of the country). The side dishes were very good too. They are only open Tue-Fri from 2:30-8:30 and get very busy when they are open so plan accordingly. It was best for us to do take-out.More

We come here each year on our annual trip Down East. This year, as we waited, we were surprised to find that people were being seated before us as they now take reservations. We arrived at 5:30 on a Friday. We sat in the parking...lot for about 7-8 minutes waiting for a space. We were then informed that there was a 35 minute wait and we put our name in. They were not serving drinks to waiting patrons due to lack of staff. After a bit, a loud party of 8 arrived and pressed the hostess about getting drinks. The hostess left her station to take their drink order and then got their drinks. Other waiting people then asked about getting drinks & were told that they didn’t have the staff to provide drinks. In the end, our 30 minute wait ended up being 1 hour and 40 minutes which was very annoying. (We had discussed leaving but didn’t know anywhere else to go in that area so we waited.) After the hour plus 40, we were seated outside in a covered area of booths. The service and food were both good. Lobster rolls for both of us were tasty and satisfying and the onion rings were nice thin rings with great light batter. I will go back next year but will make a reservation, for sure. People with reservations were all seated on time.More

We were traveling with our pup and arrived in the area late in the evening on a rainy day. We we were looking for a pet friendly restaurant, with a covered patio, that had vegetarian options and were still serving. We were sure we were...going to be out of luck but then we happened upon this place. They had some vegetarian options that weren't listed on their menu and they were super accommodating about fitting us in despite the fact that a whole tour bus of customers had showed up about an hour before. We were very happy we found this place.More

The hostess, an older woman who apparently works two jobs, was absolutely and incredibly rude. When I asked her a simple question, she actually rolled her eyes. Our waitress was lovely but the rudeness of the hostess was enough that we will never return.

Very disappointed in how we were treated. Went to eat at 4:45 on a Friday. We sat down I ordered soup and a dinner and all my boyfriend had wanted to order was 3lbs steamers for us to share…waitress comes out minutes later says they...are out of them and all they have is mussels left. 10 min later steamers walk by being served to another table. My boyfriend went down and inquired if they had any left with the guy steaming the shellfish outside at the end of the building, who reported back he only had 10lbs left and he was saving it for the locals….had I known that they selfishly withheld items on the menu because we were out of towners only visiting, I would have gotten up and not patronized the place. We were calm curtious folks just trying to enjoy ourselves with a night dining out and were treated as if we were were not valued customers- guess we weren’t. Very disappointed never seen such treatment from an establishment like that before. Out of towners do NOT spend your money there apparently we are not valued.More

Ate here two nights in a row. First night had lobster, shrimp in a white wine sauce over pasta. Very rich but very good. Second night had the lobster dinner and it was fantastic. Fresh and tender. The best whole lobster I had in the...Bar Harbor area. Met Ruth she and her wait staff are friendly.More

Ruth and Wimpy’s has that old diner style with vinyl booths and cheap tables. There are shelves and shelves of beer bottles, beer steins and cars. The walls are adorned with lots of license plates. Funny sayings have been printed and tacked to the ceiling...which were entertaining. Oh, and there is one men’s toilet and one women’s toilet for the whole restaurant so don’t wait til the last minute to go. We arrived around 4:00pm and were seated inside promptly. Then we waited. At least 10 minutes before someone approached our table to take our order. BTW while waiting we became acutely aware of the wait staff saying “corner” every time they went into or out of kitchen. Our booth was right by the kitchen so we heard “corner” every few seconds. It was annoying to say the least. How about fixing the corner??? Anyway, we ordered a couple IPAs and some sodas. For dinner, my sister and husband both ordered the fried haddock basket. Oddly, one came with two pieces of fish and the other only had one. The meal with one piece was on a smaller plate with less french fries. What the??? They were hungry so they just ate it anyway. The thin pieces of haddock were ok but the french fries were cold. My spouse had the very expensive clam chowder and equally expensive buffalo sauce shrimp. Neither of them was good so it was a costly mistake. The chowder was thick with potatoes and clams but was tasteless. The shrimp were spiral shaped, and they all looked exactly the same as if they came frozen from a vendor. The shrimp had no flavor nor did the weird breading. I ordered the 1 ½ lb lobster and fries. They “messed up” the lobster. I don’t know how that was the explanation the waitress gave me. They were nice enough to give me the option of waiting for a new one to be cooked or getting the Lazy Man’s Lobster for the same price. I opted for Lazy Man. The rest of the table had their food so I watched them eat while I waited. The lobster arrived in about 5 minutes and the french fries in about 10 minutes (which were the best part as they were fresh and piping hot). The lobster was ok although a bit stringy, and the claw meat had a weird taste like iodine or something. The service was inconsistent, and they left dirty dishes on the table too long. Definitely not their finest hour. We’ll take our money elsewhere for our next outing.More

Our family stopped here while on vacation - 2 adults, 2 teens, and 1 dog. We liked it so much that we came back a week later at the end of our trip to eat here again! They have a nice enclosed & covered patio...that is dog-friendly and they brought a lobster bucket filled with water right away. We were also able to order a plain, non-seasoned burger for him. During our 2 visits, we ordered the lobster, sautéed lobster claw dinner, lobster tails, garlic steak alfredo, honey garlic salmon, macaroni & cheese, blueberry pie, mini key lime cake, mini raspberry lemon drop cake, bread pudding, and death by chocolate cake. The service was friendly and everything was excellent - though the mini cakes are not made in-house and were not as good as the other desserts. I highly recommend a stop here and we'd definitely come back if we're ever in the area again.More

Lobster was great, especially when they remove all of the meat out of it for you. Ate here twice. No view but a fun place. Great servers. The only thing we were disappointed in was they really hype their desserts and we were not impressed.

We dined at R&W’s ten years ago when vacationing in the area. Same enjoyable experience this time. I ah a bacon cheeseburger with their thin onion rings, and my wife had broiled haddock with fries. Food and service was excellent. Everything was clean. We each...had a slice of pie. It was yummy.More
