Excellent food with spicing to one's taste

We had a great lunch here recently and tried a number of different appetizers and entrees. The service was friendly although a little disorganized. The food, however, made of up for the relatively simple setting (although there are great views of the Kennebec River). We had paletes ranging from heat-averse to heat-tolerant. The spicy red curry was fiery but delicious. Since it was lunch time, we settled for tea, coffee, and water. The iced Thai tea was rich and delicious!

Excellent food and service

Great place , we choose to dine in and it was a little chilly in the dining room/porch area but still enjoyable. We loved the food we both had the special of the evening. If you like spicy its delicious, if you don't like spice be sure to ask them to tone it down some - the chef likes it hot. We will be back our waiter was also wonderful and a tentative.

Very good Thai lunch

We had lunch at Cafe de Bangkok and found the food to be excellent and plentiful. Service was good and unexpectedly good views. I personally love the green curry and my husband loves the Pad Keo Mao

I have been going here as a staff member at a camp nearby for years, and I celebrated my birthday there this year. Their card machine wasn't working and they first expected me and my boyfriend to go out to a bank (the closest one that was opened was 25 minutes away) to go get money to pay, when THEIR machine wasn't working. In reality, if their machine isn't working (mind you we were the only and last customers of the night), they should just comp the meal. I then left my phone number, name and contact information so that I could drop off money or have someone drop it off the next day. Although I did not feel that this was my responsibility, I sent one of the staff to pay. Since then, I have been back three separate times to eat there and no one has said anything to me nor called me, so I assumed everything was all set. Today, a month after my birthday dinner there, I received a call from them where they proceeded to SCREAM AND YELL at me about the payment. They claimed I didn't pay, yet I had and either way, it's been a month, I have returned three times since, I haven't heard anything via phone, and I have been back three times. The woman who spoke to me yelled over me while I tried to explain myself, was extremely rude, proceeded to curse at me while I tried to share that I had sent someone, and then she hung up the phone on me. I called back to try and follow up and have a nice conversation to clear the air, but she again yelled over me cursed again and hung up again.

With few patrons spaced far apart in the dining room, pad thai was very disappointing

On this afternoon while traveling through Hallowell, I decided to stop for lunch at the Cafe de Bangkok based upon TripAdvisor reviews. There were only 3 other tables with a total of 7 patrons in the dining room at the time, and all were spaced according to CDC guidelines. There was no ventilation in the dining space this particular afternoon which, with a low volume of customers, wasn't cause for concern. The Pad Thai that I ordered arrived over cooked: the noodles had broken apart (a sure indication that they were not prepared properly) and, when eaten, were gummy, with the starch having come to the surface; the shrimp were similar in texture to rubber, and the chicken was tough and stringy; and there were few mung beans or scallions topping the dish. On the positive side, the Pad Thai sauce was both faintly sweet with acidity, but it was difficult to know if this had been prepared fresh or came from a food service. All in all, this particular afternoon luncheon meal was not up to the standards one expects from such a highly rated Thai restaurant.

Girl's Night Out!

Recently, sixteen co-workers & family members met for dinner here. We were very well taken care of.The staff helped us plan a surprise birthday party for one of our co-workers. They set-up, decorated, included a gift table and made the "guest of honor" feel very special. Food here is always great, My favorite dish is the Cafe de Bangkok Roll. I would definitely plan another social event or party at this restaurant. Thank you for a wonderful start to our eveing on the town!!

decent views of the river

have to say the food was uninspiring always feels a bit odd eating ethnic food when served by folks certainly not of/from that culture. That said, food is ok. Place is clean, pleasant enough and they do have nice vistas of the river and far shore. We were in a hurry and restaurant seemingly was not - complete with our waiter telling us one of the other waiters had stole our order. They have a sushi ba up front - but did nt try. There is parking.

Outstanding view and delicious

We eat here every time we are in the area. The view of the Kennebec River is amazing and we've seen bald eagles fishing as we dined. We enjoyed the lobster pad thai, tom yum, spring rolls and salmon avocado roll. Casual and friendly.

The Lobster dishes are phenomenal and only $15. I have tried them all and the lobster crazy noodle is the best. If you like duck..then have the Duck Pad Nam Mon Hoy..Best dish in Maine!!

Disappointing food every time

I’ve tried this place three times hoping I caught them on an off night, but I was disappointed each time. The seafood did not seem fresh and the pad Thai left much to be desired. I’d recommend passing on this one.

We got the lobster crazy noodles and yellow curry with shrimp, as well as a salmon avocado roll to share. Everything was absolutely delicious! Our service was friendly, helpful, and quick. We would definitely go back!

Worst Sushi Experience Ever

All I can say is don’t go there !! This place has to be the worst run restaurant on the planet, complete side show with no one in charge!! They are so desperate for sushi chefs that they now have the person who use to mow there lawn making sushi, who has absolutely no training or any idea what he’s doing. The owner should do us all the favor of stop advertising their sushi and get her act together. What a shame that this place is soo bad when Ken the former owner had such a great restaurant and legit sushi. Do yourself a favor and never go here to eat you’ll thank me later Worst food anywhere in Maine!! ChomChom !

Good food, bad service

The food is undeniably very good. However, when you have to wait 45 minutes to get a check, you are left with a bad taste in your mouth. For a full house, they only had 1 served and 1 runner on staff. Unacceptable, especially on something like Mother’s Day.
