Chefs seeking to create within the context of #Maine Coastal Cuisine must respect entrenched expectations while at the same time seeking opportunities to introduce elements of surprise, and occasional open rebellion. Such is definitely the case at Blue, where the playfully inventive talent of Chef...Esau Crosby brings unexpected twists to familiar Maine staples such as grilled swordfish and mignonette sauce. On a recent evening, the marinated & grilled swordfish was served with an inspired housemade ketchup based in retrieving the condiments’ pre-Heinz history, while the punchy & peppery mignonette offered fresh counterpoint, rather than drab camouflage, for a half dozen perfectly shucked and presented Robinhood Cove oysters. The music mix in the dining room offered a subtle clue to what was going on in the kitchen, offering an unusual (for Maine restaurants!) mix of jazz ballads from John Coltrane to Billie Holiday turning familiar tunes inside out, thereby making them new again. There was something both slightly sad and slyly humorous about seeing the same ole “Garden Salad" (yawn) listed as a daily "special", while from the regular seasonal menu we thoroughly enjoyed playful riffs on beet salad, here served as a colorful composition with pea shoots, cashews and shaved fennel; and in a second salad, baby greens were brought into perfect harmony with roasted local apples. The wine list was equally as playful. Yes, there were the inevitable California Pinot Noirs, Chardonnays and Cab Savs (double yawn), yet we were pleasantly surprised by the presence of an excellent Loess Grüner Veltliner and a delightful Argiolas Armentino from Sardinia. With regret, we must report the one sour note for our otherwise memorable evening at Blue, and that is the clumsy performance of the two Grey Havens (triple yawn) Innkeepers, who would be better advised to let the excellent front-of-house staff do their thing unencumbered by their bossy & boorish attempts at conducting, sort of like like beginner tuba players barging into a jam session among seasoned pros. In sum, we will happily return to Blue for as long as Chef Crosby performs at the heart of the mix. As for the Inn, well, the front porch does offer a lovely view of coves and offshore islands. For us, that will be "Inn" enough!More

We had the opportunity to dine at Blue this evening. Everything about our experience was perfect. The food was outstanding and the service was great. Just as we were finishing our dessert, we were treated to an unexpected surprise- a concert by a group of...string musicians visiting from Florida. They were absolutely the highlight of the evening. We had a wonderful time and will definitely return!More

Let’s start with the views! Make time to sit on the lovely porch and enjoy quintessential Maine views. Rocking chairs and all. Dining room is all warm wood and cozy. Bar tucked the corner is fully stocked with a wonderful bar tender stirring up some...interesting cocktails and serving from a nice wine list. If you can snag a seat you can eat there and enjoy the company and the vibe. Dinner was delicious. Halibut perfectly cooked with a warm lemongrass sauce that was bright and tasty. Sides were well seasoned and great compliment to the fish. Salad was fresh and tasty. Edana was attentive server and the owners were circulating and insuring all guests were happy. We were! We have already returned for cocktail on the porch. Dinner again next week. A gem in Georgetown Maine.More

Relaxed atmosphere in wonderful surroundings looking out over spectacular Maine seascapes. Service was outstanding and very friendly. Best every "Blue" version of Chocolate Mousse and great fresh seafood and locally sourced meat and vegetables. Drove all the way back from central New Hampshire to stay...and have a meal one last time two weeks later before they closed for the season. Will be back again for sure when they reopen in May. The proprietors of the hotel (Eve and George) are committed to making everyone's stay special and it shows in every detail at Grey Havens and at their restaurantMore

My wife and I visited for the first time and we had an enjoyable experience. You can't beat the view of one of Maine's prettiest coastal areas. I had the Maine Seafood Chowder and the Sesame-crusted Salmon. Both were good, but the chowder was seriously...lacking the "seafood" part. It had 2-3 bites of fish and 1 single oyster (I think). No scallops or lobster as suggested by the photo on their website. It was also the thick version of chowder and not the thinner version as suggested by their photos. The salmon was good but not spectacular. The sides were not very exciting (lackluster mashed potatoes and very bitter broccoli-rabe). My wife had the fettuccine with roasted vegetables and she enjoyed it. It was packed with veggies. My wife also had the chocolate mousse for dessert and she said it was also very good. This is not an inexpensive place to eat. Most entrees are in the $18-$38 range and the choices are limited. Salads are ridiculously expensive ($12) so we skipped those. Service was excellent and the surroundings are beautiful. For me, I was somewhat disappointed with my experience. While the food was good, I really expected something a bit more exciting for the price. There are lots of good restaurants in this area that are less expensive and more enjoyable from a food perspective. I'm not sure we' be repeat customers. It was good but just not memorable as we expected.More

We celebrated our daughter and her fiance's wedding ceremony and reception last weekend at the Grey Havens Inn. It was a small intimate celebration with only 14 in attendance. ( due to the current situation) We stayed at the inn and enjoyed an amazing dining...experience. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed their meal...generous portions and 5 star cuisine. The inn and grounds represent the quintessential beauty of coastal Maine. The inn is meticulously kept and simply beautiful. What we will remember most is how we felt from the moment we stepped into the inn. Innkeepers, Eve and Dick, were so accommodating and sincerely made us all feel so welcome....their entire staff did. Thank you both for making our daughter's wedding such a joyous & stress free occasion. Don & JudyMore

We came to Maine for the Stephen King Tour in Bangor, and we stayed at Grey Haven’s because my husband had stayed 20 years ago as a senior in high school. He loved the fact that it was adults only, and the beautiful scenery. Not...sure if it’s still adults only, but it’s still gorgeous! We stayed in the Sunrise Suite, and it was beautiful! While there, we did whale watching, moose watching, we did a clam bake and of course, the SK tour in Bangor. Breakfast every day was fantastic, and dinners at Blue were delicious every time. I’d Definitely eat there even if you don’t stay at the BNB. The yogurt there is AMAZING. I asked for it even when it wasn’t on that day’s menu. The food is so flavorful, oh my goodness. Eve is fantastic, a real character and a wonderful host. She even put a blueberry pie and blueberries in a cooler for us so it wouldn’t go bad. They give you a bucket of ice for beverages to take to the rooms upstairs and are always very friendly. We absolutely plan to go back, and wouldn’t stay anywhere else!More
