Each course is so perfectly created. The choices are deliciously interesting, not wacky. Salad was superb. Dessert exceeded all expectations. Bread was sublime. Main course was a masterpiece. We are usually a quick turn at restaurants. At Canterbury Royale, we wanted to stay forever! Worth...a long drive to experience this!More

It was incredible. I am a local who had never been. We had a visitor from VA and FL. Wanted a special evening. A beautiful little restaurant in the woods during the peak of leaf peeping. The chefs were incredible. The food was the best...I have ever had. Would love to go back in the Christmas season to se the the interior then. They were booked for the remainder of the year. Enjoyed the food and the experience.More

The four of us had a wonderful time at this quaint dinning room last night. The atmosphere took us to a place where it felt like we were the only ones there. The chefs are so friendly and caring. They take a lot of pride...in their presentation and service. The food was succulent. You just want the night to continue and never end. I love this place, we have been here 4 times.More

We were greeted at the door by one of the owners/chefs who told us in a pseudo French accent we would be the only party dining that evening. (it turns out this woman doesn't know a word of French). The ambience is great--making you feel...as if you're in a French restaurant or manor. We started off with somewhat expensive cocktails and a dinner bread that was exceptional. Next followed croissants with a choice of a wild mushroom soup or a lobster bisque--both were delightful. This was followed by a vegetable presented as a rose flower with pedals made of sliced beet which included a strip of marinated meat--possibly beef. As a life-long hater of beets, this dish converted my way of thinking that beets have great potential in my culinary world. However, when the main course arrived, (you have to choose this course at least a week or two in advance via phone or email), the disappointment began. Please see the "Detail" portion for the rest of this review.More

Greetings Maine Pilot, We apologize that your experience with us was not five-star. May we add a little explanation of that evening. You arrived nearly an hour before your reservation. Obviously, you have no idea what this does to a kitchen. There are only two...More

Chefs Barbara and Renee gave us an absolutely wonderful experience. My wife and I, along with our good friends, Jack and Pat, have not stopped talking about the attention to detail, the service, the exquisite cuisine, and the delightful atmosphere. Every aspect of our dinner...was perfect. We can't wait to go back for another "once-in-a-lifetime" experience.More

We were celebrating my mother's birthday and what a treat our dinner was! Every course was delicious and the desserts were out of this world. This was our second visit, our first being brunch which was also excellent. We will definitely be back again. This establishment is a unique gem and well worth the trip if you are anywhere close to the Fort Fairfield area. My SO, her long-time friend and I had lunch here in September and from the moment we walked in the door we were made...very welcome by the gracious Chef Barbara. After cocktails we were served a perfect lunch, easily one of the best we've had this year in what was basically a private dining room. The food was top quality, the setting quiet and delicately furnished and we all thoroughly enjoyed the experience. I have no hesitation in giving the Canterbury Royale Gourmet my unqualified recommendation.More

Reservations are essential for this once-in-a-lifetime experience. The restaurant driveway is a portal into an intimate romantic glen, with old world style buildings and well-kept grounds. Inside the restaurant, the decor is charmingly over-the-top romantic, with subdued lighting and figurines everywhere. The restaurant caters to...couples and small (4-8) parties so the service (by the owners/chefs) is attentive and personal. The menu encompasses American/Maine (Filet Mignon and lobster) and French cuisines. Each of my party (of 4) had different entrees and each were delicious. The initial courses of bread (croissants and onion rolls), soup (I had chestnut soup) and salad were excellent as well. The wine list was broad but surprisingly modestly priced. The Riesling I ordered was new to me but was the best I've ever had! The portions of each course were ample but not so filling that having dessert would be uncomfortable - a good thing, too, because the chefs offered a number of desserts, each as delightfully tempting as the next. At the end of the meal, you feel filled not only by a wonderful meal but also by a sense of conviviality and well-being. It's an experience I'd love to repeat!More

It was approximately $75 per person...depending on what you have to drink, could be a bit more or less....and worth every dime!
