From the sullen reception by the hostess, to the hour and a half wait for our (expensive and forgettable) meal, and a 4 oz pour of wine for $18, put this place on your "Must to Avoid" list.

Nice location in front of water. Very slow to sit you down with empty tables. Food portions where very small. Passing through though maybe I ok Would not return
Such a lovely & busy spot in the summer. We usually come about 3 to 4 times a year. Often bring out of town guests. Jess has served us before she really is exceptional. Enjoyed calamari and zucc fries. The chowder was better than terrific....Maine course halibut outstanding a ong with crab cakes and the cioppino. The Chablis and the Drouhin pinot were really good value for money. Thank you, see you again soonMore
This was the worst dining experience I’ve had in several years. I had the fish and chips for $22. The fish was uninspiring, the French fries old and soggy. The tiny side dish of cole slaw was dingy, stale, and tasteless. My wife’s steak and...cheese sandwich ($18) was lifeless and boring with both the bread and meat appearing to have been around for a few days. Our drink, rose sangria ($12), was watery and tasteless. The only positive was the crime brûlée ($12), which was very good. Strangely, the $14 tip I added to the charge did not appear on my credit card statement.More
Three of us came at 8 and were asked to sit at the bar even with many empty tables. Finally placed our order as most staff were scurrying around to clean before closing. 8:45 two meals were served which didn’t do much good as one...diner was missing a fork. Getting a fork was a chore in itself as those behind the bar were cleaning and washing the days containers. We were the only ones sitting there so the delay wasn’t because they were busy with customers. I patently waited for my meal as the restaurant clean up continued. When my meal came I was told the kitchen got the order wrong, mistakes happen. My haddock was so undercooked it was still cool and wet, but the plate was hot. Not one of the three meals had any seasoning at all…no butter, no salt, no pepper! Nothing worse than a glob of mashed potato. We knew they closed at 9 and tried shoveling the bland poorly cooked meals down all while they began stacking chairs. A pricey menu for poor food and being pushed out the door is totally unacceptable. Suggestion: do not seat customers after 7pm!!More
In general, staff was friendly and professional- I had a special salad for lunch, my husband the salmon blt. For $16, the special salad was the size of a demi-salad. A small handful of lettuce, a strawberry cut into small pieces, a few blueberries and...about a tablespoon of feta. Shameful to charge that amount of money for a salad that should have cost $5 at the most. It was served on a small rectangular plate. In comparison, I ordered a special salad at a popular fine-dining establishment in the Kennebunk area for $16 2 days ago served in a large 3 cup bowl, filled to the top with lettuce, strawberries (plural!) and feta. The salmon blt - just ok.More
We have always enjoyed our 3 or 4 visits here every year, but it just seems to be getting better each season. The staff are welcoming familiar faces now and the kitchen is oh so much better than when we first came by several years...ago. Really is a darn good location for the food, drinks, service and atmosphere. Well done those in charge. Crab cakes always good here as was the fish n chips and the mussels. Sydney was a true delighter. see you next month again no doubtMore
I called this restaurant to make a reservation a few weeks in advance and explained I needed a table for five for a birthday lunch for my husband. I had not been to the restaurant before, so when the woman I spoke with said she...would seat us downstairs, I hesitated. Would it be nice? She said they would give us a table right by the open garage style doors and we'd have a nice view--no problem. Ok, I thought, let's try it. We arrive and the place is busy. I only see one open table and it's behind the hostess stand, with a view of nothing. I complain and ask to see the manager, and I'm told that one can't reserve specific tables. Really? Then why did the person I speak with offer a table with a view? What a mess. The manager arrives and offers me a table outside, in the bar. We took it, which was a big mistake. Now the bartender is our waitress. It took her twenty minutes to simply ask us for drinks. Our order took another 25 minutes. It was 1:55 when our food came out...and we had arrived at 1:00 pm. We were cold sitting outside and the food was just ok. We left as soon as we had eaten and paid our bill. As a former waitress, I left a tip, but I didn't think anyone deserved it at this restaurant. Thanks for ruining a birthday! If you couldn't deliver on your promise of a table with a view (inside please), then you should have said so. I would have gone elsewhere and of course, next time I will. I will say the manager was polite and I tried to stay polite but this place needs to hire better and more help. Our experience was very poor.More
As the “season” begins in Maine, we and our friends decided to beat the lunch crowds that will appear later this month and into the rest of summer. But, unlike our previous lunch meals at Dockside, today’s fare was just so-so average. Whoever was on...the breading station may have had the wrong mix of components because the breading fell off nearly all of the appetizers and entrees that arrived at our table. In addition, today’s fare was a tad more greasy than in the past, with the fries hedging on being in the oil for too long. Our server did a marvelous job but the meals, for which one goes to a restaurant, were disappointing for the price of admission.More
Excellent meal! We ordered the crab cakes, teriyaki tuna and short rib. Everything was prepared perfectly. Our waitress was very friendly and helped with some tourist ideas since we were just in town for a long weekend. The restaurant itself was nicely decorated. We would...love to go back during the day to experience the views. Definitely recommend!More
Jenny is a gem, she made our dinner even better for her personality and attention. Obviously a lovely location outside on a patio with marina views. Very good cocktails really recommend the jade gimlet. They infuse their own spirits here. Very reasonable and interesting wine...list, some thought has been put into the good value variety. Try the Austrian pink bubbly. Some of the best oysters. The very best paella outside of Havana. Excellent crab cakes and the short ribs. Excellent overall relaxing experienceMore
Looking for a restaurant with a water view outside of Portland we found The Dockside Grille. So glad we did. Hostess and waitress were super friendly. Our waitess was very personable. Seating was great in an open area. The oysters were amazingly fresh. Wish we...had ordered more. They were the best I ever had. The shrimp n the shrimp cocktail were a nice size and the tuna melt was very good. They had an assortment of draft beer and tasty spirits. Everyone seemed to be relaxed and enjoying themselves. We even got to here the hostess sing a song. Was tempted to drive an hour just for the oysters again. The price seemed very reasonable for the area. Great place. I don't like to give 5 stars but for me this might of deserved it.More
This place has a great view, but boy does it get hot! No a/c at all, so hope for a sea breeze. Prices are ok, but with eggs and hash you have to pay extra for toast? The drinks had little alcohol. I had a...gin and tonic and could barely taste the gin… and I asked for top shelf gin. A mimosa should not have ice! The music was way too loud!! The sound ricochets off the stone wall by the bar and overwhelms the place. We were the farthest table from the two musicians and could barely hear ourselves talk. Very difficult to even hear the waitresses who, along with the hostesses, were doing a fantastic job! Brunch for 5, with drinks, and one shared dessert was $175. And the chocolate mousse was chewy…. Not smooth and creamy as mousse should be. Probably in the fridge too long?? There are far better places around.More
This location has been through MANY iterations over the years, mostly dowdy shoreside food, once a brewpub space, and once truly excellent. This version has seen bad years -- typical of touristy places with somewhat captive clientele -- and we have mostly avoided it for...poor quality and near-astronomical prices. Falmouth, after all ... BUT, an evening with friends, not wanting to face in-town Portland, we made a reservation. And we were mostly pleased. Mostly. Enough for an above-average rating. We had a couple of appetizers, mussels and fried calamari, which are a good test because they can easily be awful. These were great. Mussels had a cocoanut curry sauce that was worth the trip. Calamari were done just right, served warm and the almost-dry crispy that's so hard to do well. Scallop main courses were perfectly done -- another dish that's easily and often done badly, but nailed here. Two clinkers -- blackened fish was insanely salty, which might be typical of blackening, so avoid if that's not to your taste. And a chowder took three tries to get right -- first brought to the table way early, and apparently the wrong chowder. Then returned at the right time and right chowder, but cold. And finally the right stuff and sufficiently hot. We were told that the kitchen had been overwhelmed earlier in the day and was a bit confused. But all was made better by an attentive and capable server, thanks to whom, the evening turned out well. Selection of beer on tap is overly limited to IPA styles, but canned / bottled selection is pretty good. Wines don't go too high up the scale, and some offerings are quite good. Overall, we were pleased to see the improvement in food quality. Even as the kitchen was having a tough day logistically, they did well with the food. And were saved by the server lady.More
Not sure what all the hype is about. The apps were fine but the dinner was lousy. I got the seafood paella and it was cheaply made. The shrimp were small (like Costco shrimp in a bag), there was barely any sausage and a minimal...amount of chicken. I won’t be coming back. The others at the table seemed to enjoy they’re food.More
