My husband and I have always loved the food and friendly atmosphere and service here, but Serendib shines more than ever during the ongoing pandemic. While many restaurants have been offering take out, the sad truth is that most dishes don't survive the trip home very well and end up disappointing. Not so with Serendib! Thoughtfully packaged and appropriately separated, all our selections over these months have reheated (or stayed chilled) at home to perfection. While we miss our usual travels, chef, Sanjeeva transports us to a delightful realm of sensual spices. We stay safe at home while nourished in body and spirit.

Everything about our visits has been exceptional. We had driven by this restaurant a few times, were curious, and, one night stopped in. We walked into a bustling and very happy place with intoxicating hints of what's to come floating from the kitchen. I'd fallen in love with Indian (and Sri Lanken) food while living in New York City but had never found anything to compare. This restaurant brought me right back. It is small with an exceptional staff that makes it all seem so easy and comfortable. They also do take out, which is just as wonderful.

I am writing a review for all those people who are looking for Indian curries living in and around Ellsworth. I highly recommend it, being an Indian I find their food close to my taste buds and the quantity is also good. We ate goat curry, mushroom korma and chicken mix rice with Naan bread. For a total bill of $54 for 4 people which was not bad. Go for it.

I stayed in nearby Brooklin, Maine while attending the WoodenBoat School for 7 days. I went to Serendib twice after getting my fill of lobster, pizza, and the usual Maine restaurant fare.
The restaurant is small. I arrived about 6 pm both weekday evenings and was seated immediately. I noticed however that those arriving as I was finishing were asked if they had reservations. I suspect reservations could be necessary at later times and on weekends.
I ordered naan both nights and it was fabulous. Light and soft, it was perfect on its own, dipped in the accompanying chutneys, or, especially, in sopping up the spicy, flavorful curries.
The first night I had Traditional Sri Lankan Beef Curry. The beef was in chunks and was tender. It came with basmati rice and was wonderful. Each bite was well balanced in flavor and “heat”.
The second night I had Sri Lankan Style Curry with chicken as the protein. This meal too was wonderful. Tender, flavorful chicken over a bed of rice. Wonderful flavors yet not too much.
Both nights when I ordered the waiter asked what spice level I preferred. I like spicy but I don’t want to suffer! I chose the second from the least spicy and that was about right.
Next time I’m in the area I’ll stop in here. I enjoyed having the option of departing from the usual restaurant fare.

My wife and I first wanted to attend another restaurant in the area but they were closed so we wandered down the street and boy are we glad we did. The food was excellent. We got lucky and were able to get seating when we walked in but I highly recommend making reservations as we watched lots of people get turned away that didn't have reservations. I had the wild boar and it was great.

Delicious, high quality Indian and Sri Lankan food with dairy free option (e.g. Chicken Tikka Masala) , vegan options including - Cashew curry with egglant, that had generous portions of cashews. Mango lassi was well-made (i.e. not sickly sweet). Friendly staff that includes the owner.

Delicious, home made Indian and Sri Lanka dishes. Almost licked my plate ! The coriander dip that comes with the Naan bread is so good that I always ask for more. Wonderful service !

Make reservations and prepare to be delighted. I had the Sri Lankan fried rice and tandoori chicken. We also ordered the naan appetizer. Everything was seasoned perfectly. My husband ordered the Sri Lankan beef curry and brother order Sri Lankan shrimp curry. Everyone cleaned their plates. By far the best meal of our week long stay in Maine.

Not to miss if you’re in the Ellsworth/Trenton area. The naan here is off.the.chain! As well as the tamarind chutney. So good that I purchased a jar of it before we left. While some of the other dishes were not salted enough for our palates, it did not distract from the flavors. Wish it stayed open a bit later than 7:30 but Ellsworth is a sleepy kind of town.

We have been vacationing in the Ellsworth area for several years and Serendib is one of our "must-do" restaurants. The food is fresh, spice level can be accommodated to your liking and the service is excellent. The deviled potatoes are the best side dish! We love this place and wouldn't miss it on our trips!

We used to LOVE the food here! We would order regularly. Then the menu completely changed. We tried a few items and did not like one thing. We are so sad. Please bring back Tempered Spinach, Chana Sag or anything green!

We stopped on the way to our hotel in Bar Harbor and liked it so much we returned our last night. We both got the tempered spinach which was incredible. What a great gem in this part of Maine. If we lived here we’d be weekly customers.

Exceptional food and service a real gem. Visited twice Goat Curry to die for and the spicy 🌶 chicken wings best I have had. You can even buy the sauce to take home. Highly recommend and really good value also. 😍👏

My partner found this one online…how in the world do you end up with authentic Sri Lankan cuisine in the heart of Ellsworth, Maine? No matter, it worked out wonderfully; it's our gain.
We had an early reservation for dinner. This makes sense, as the dining room is quite small and if filled up on a Saturday evening very quickly. We also noticed quite a bit of traffic of folks picking up takeout.
We started with the potatoes side as a starter, and yeah, it was spicy. Too much for my partner, which left all of it for me! Nice and tangy and tender, really well done.
She went with the fried rice, a big portion, which was really good. I went with the spicy madras curry chicken, which was hot and fresh, really tasty. I also had a lime soda, which was wonderful.
The prices are good, with plenty of parking on the street right outside. Big windows so you can see all of the goings on there at the stoplight at State and Main Streets.
Bottom Line: first time there, but it will not be the last. We will be moving to the area in a few years, and are looking forward to returning.
