We are giving this one star because zero stars was not an option. For starters, this place is awful. Service is slow with very few patrons which should tell you something. The waitress informed us that everything was made in house. Our response after eating there was "ya shouldn't have bothered." The pollo loco tasted like a bad chicken Parmesan.... More

Flat beer, fake mexican food- way over priced. I don't know how they stay in business. This takes the crown for theworst restaurant in Ellsworth-and that is saying something.

We come every time we are in Ellsworth. We want Mexican without the heavy sauces and loads of cheese from the Mexican chains. I had a great Chicken and lime soup, burrito and salad with verde dressing. I would highly recommend this meal. They seemed understaffed in the front of the house today. The single waitress seemed overworked and it... More

The Mex was a favorite for many years, in my opinion even Taco Bell is a step ahead. Drinks are good so have a couple some nacho then go somewhere else for the meal.

The Mex should not even pretend to be a Mexican restaurant. Sure it has the music, the Corona beer signs, chilly pepper lights and a menu describing Mexican food but those are the only things that even come close to being Mexican. We went there with friends and we were all very disappointed. I ordered the Taco dish and asked... More

First and foremost....... Do not eat at this establishment. Here are just a few reasons: everything is dirty, the food is bland and overpriced, the service is atrocious and extremely slow. If you really want good Mexican take the drive to Bangor and go to Pipinos

I wish I could give this a better review. Inconsistent is a better rating for me. I have been visiting Ellsworth and the Mex over the past year and haven't had the same food, service or drinks at any visit. Overall, the food is decent, fresh and at a good price. That said, the service has been all over the... More

It's hard to believe other raters are talking about the same restaurant. I fell in love with Mexican Food during my college years in California. When I moved back to Maine it was very hard to adjust to the imitation Mexican restaurants here. Then, 30 years ago, we found and instantly fell in love with "The Mex". We have looked... More

I have loved this place for over 20 years. I can't understand some of these reviews. Perhaps because the food is healthy and not the usual plate-with-floating-cheese, that the folk who are expecting the floating cheese entree are disappointed. This place has fresh salads, great seafood, and lots of vegetarian options, we love it. The margs are good and potent,... More

I guess maybe I was spoiled with the food in Texas and Colorado. This food tasted warmed over and bland. Service was average and the decor is ok, but the food fell short, even for Maine
