After a walk along the river, we agreed that a lobster roll would be the perfect way to cap off our visit to Calais. Read the reviews on Karen's Diner, and thought we would give it a try. The chalkboard indicated that today's special was...lobster rolls, and it seemed that it was meant to be. Our server was very prompt and friendly, and told us that the lobster had arrived that morning, and was very good. It was a delightful lunch.More

Stopped here for dinner after traveling from NJ. The diner section was closed but the pub side was open, which was perfectly fine and enjoyable. The food was so good and perfect after a day of travel, filling but not heavy. Staff was nice and...welcoming. Make sure to stop by and say hello if you’re in town!More

I was there for breakfast. Get this...they put a sausage patty in the biscuits which are part of the biscuits and gravy! Wow...what a great idea. A full order of B&G plus two eggs makes a really-filling breakfast. One of the guys with me had...the b-fast special and found it to be not filling enough...just a 2nd-hand word of warning.More

Main Street is quite depressed with many store fronts closed. Karen’s appears to be a bright spot. This is a diner, not fine dining (I do not believe such exists in the town). Staff are pleasant. The French fries were hot and perfectly crisped. My...lobster role was decent. Sodas and ice tea come in plastic bottles so they do not brew their own. So if you want some of the basics, I would recommend this place.More

Food is usually good, and the fish and chips was as expected - but the fish chowder was watery and absolutely tasteless. No amount of salt and pepper could give it flavor. Disappointing.

Great food, large menu! Was decently priced and the server was great too. We will be back on a regular basis. Karen’s will be a frequent spot for us to eat.

My husband ordered the scallops and wow - huge, lightly battered scallops appeared quickly. I had the turkey club - and took half back to the hotel. Good quality food - freindly but a bit loud in the pub area. Oh well, a good time...though.More

This is where locals stop for a great cup of coffee. I had the breakfast special for $5.95 and my husband had a western omelet for $6.95. Included coffee. Very much a small town diner. We were served by Karen, herself.

We were driving from Prince Edward Island to Acadia National Park and stopped in Calais to eat, saw Karen's and went in. It was about 4pm and only a couple of other customers were there. The place isn't fancy, but it was the best fish...and chips we had on our entire 2-week tour of New England. Good price too.More

Here is the deal, it was busy. Coffee refills were frequent. Food was good. From the time we placed the order to the time we received the food - slow. Not a quick place to go for breakfast. But the worst part was fighting the...flies. They were everywhere we were batting at them constantly. My suggestion don’t sit near the window or the door.More

Love this place for simple but good Maine food especially the fish & chips. The taco salad is large, crisp and tasty too! The servers are very friendly and the prices are decent.

We stopped through Calais and chose Karen's for breakfast. What a delightful place! The food is great, and the atmosphere is cozy. You absolutely must try the grilled Blueberry mufiin - the muffin picks up some subtle bacon/salt taste from the grill and it is...heaven! The coffee is great, too!More

Stopped in for breakfast on our way south after leaving New Brunswick. The food is worth a stop here, but be prepared for a dining room that needs some spit and polish. It's noisy, and you may be served coffee in mugs that didn't make...it all the way through the wash cycle. The Saturday we were here, there were quite a few locals who stopped in, and they take liberty to helping themselves to coffee, and getting their own silverware. My wife had two poached eggs on toast, and it was the best she had ever had. The eggs were incredibly fresh. I enjoyed one blueberry pancake, and that is really all one needs. They are packed with berries, and quite substantial. First pancake I have ever had that needs a knife to cut it. Enjoy a good meal here.More

Calais, ME has a limited number of restaurants in the area. The good one's are extremely busy and that was the indication when we walked into Karen's Main Street Diner. It was very crowded and more arrived after we did. It appeared to be only...one server for the entire room. Although it was a little wait, I admit that the server did an amazing job. When she took our order, she was pleasant and did not act rushed. I watched her at other tables, when delivering orders, taking order and delivering checks and her demeanor never changed. Excellent server. The café is old and tattered, but you felt like you were in old-town Maine in the center of town. The food was quite good. My brother and sister-in-law ordered breakfast. I first ordered the eggs benedict, but they were out of hollandaise sauce so opted for a hamburger. The breakfasts looked very good and cooked as ordered. My hamburger was very good and came with chips. The coffee was good, hot and fresh. Nice experience and I would definitely dine here again.More

Left side is Breakfast & Lunch. Right side is a bar & grill, which opens later in the day. No brunch mimosas it would seem...
