About
This place is temporarily CLOSED and will reopen on 2024. We have a new "system" this year, it looks a little different. Our menu is posted on the wall by our new cashier counter (used to be hostess desk). You will order food at the counter, drinks from the bar, grab a table, and we'll call your number when it's ready. Same great food, drinks and friendly faces you know and love! We offer harborside dining in a relaxed and inviting atmosphere. Our menu offers everything from fresh seafood to sandwiches and burgers. Lunch and dinner are served daily. Be sure to bring the whole family, Kaler’s is a family restaurant with fun for all ages. So go explore our beautiful coastline, visit the local shops, go on a hike or a lobster boat tour, and afterwards, think of Kaler’s for a great meal. We’ll be here, ready to serve you!

The location was convenient which is how we ended up at this semi self serve restaurant. It was right next to the pier from the Puffin Cruise and it had outdoor dining so you could sit on the water and the views were beautiful. As far as the food we were not so impressed. We thought it was rather expensive considering we pretty much served ourselves, cleaned our own table, and the food was not exceptionally good. Two of us ordered the fried clams and did not finish them. They were over fried and all you could taste was breading and no clams. There was no one that raved about their meal and there were 7 of us. We did enjoy the blueberry pie, but not enough to return.

We ate at this casual dive after the whale watch tour. The lobster roll was soooo good! (though pricier than other places in Maine that has the comparative). The negative was that we had to wait a long time to get seated. We were then seated outdoors which would've been ok but then the rain let loose. They made no provisions for us to get re-seated. I know they were crowded. But my advice to them would be to not seat people at the out door tables (that have no covering) when rain is expected. There is also outdoor seating that has coverings (and indoor seating, too!)which would've been better. It was cool to see them take the lobster right out of the traps they have placed in the water and bring them in for dinner! Can't get fresher than that!

We have spent four summers in Boothbay, and have just now discovered Kaler's. It is a great family restaurant where you order food at the counter and pick it up when your number is called. The food is excellent, the portions large. and the atmosphere casual and friendly. We look forward to many more meals there.

We were lucky enough to get a recommendation to visit Kaler's and enjoyed everything we ordered. Fried oysters and clams were done perfectly and the lobster roll is highly recommendable. Special thanks to the women who took our orders and managed customer needs beautifully.

We came to Boothbay Harbor on our first date and have retuned for many of our 18 anniversary dates ... We did so again this year (today) and sadly I am compelled to take time out and post that tonight's meal at Kaler's (Restaurant) was one of the worst dining experiences in our time together. It takes a lot for us not give a place the benefit of the doubt. I had to create an account just to write my first ever dining review. In the past we have come here and it seemed like your normal restaurant ... We have ordered a drink and eaten at the bar in past years. The food was always good. This year, the experience was completely different. They have turned the place into what is basically the equivalent of a food truck, housed in their old restaurant. I dropped my wife off in front, while I looked to find the elusive parking spot in Boothbay Harbor. I suggested she order a drink and I would be in soon. When I found a spot (10-minutes later), I walked up and she was standing outside because they told her that you had to order your food before going into the restaurant. I wasn't sure what to make of that explanation. We soon found out. They must not be willing to competitively pay employees to staff a regular restaurant, so they have turned it into what is basically a lobster shack. You walk in and walk up to order from a menu on the wall, they give you a number, and you wait for them to call your number when your food is ready. If you want a drink, you walk over to the bar (after paying for your meal upon walking in), and pay for your drinks separately. If you want a second drink, you have to return to the bar and buy another round. I guess all of this is understandable ... To cheap to pay what it might take get a few more employees and run an actual restaurant. Sadly, what was worse was the actual meal. We both decided to get a King Crab special they were having. I was sure that for $30 the potion of crab would be smaller than hoped for, but it really wasn't. It was overcooked, making the shells hard to crack and since they didn't provide anything to crack them with, it caused it to be hard to even get any of the crab out of even the upper (larger) portion fo the crab legs. Everything came on a high school cafeteria lunch tray and it was served in paper baskets with plastic everything else. Butter was provided in the little plastic portions like you get at a cheap diner. The corn cob was as cold as if I had cooked it the night before and left it on the counter. The potato was burnt. I went into what was long traditional restaurant, after reading reviews to try and take my wife out for a nice anniversary meal. Nothing informed us that the restaurant had turned into what is basically Dunton's Doghouse food stand, with much worse food (Dunton's serves great food). We will never return.

Sorry your experience wasn't as pleasant as the majority of our customers who continue to return, and love it. This is the 3rd year of this "model" of counter service style. Some don't like it as well as others, but it is a change that we had to make, due to lack of workforce. It has proven to work well overall. We can't please everyone, but appreciate hearing the negative, along with the positive.

Our hotel's owner had recommended this place to a recent Trip Advisor reviewer so we decided to give them a try. I had the fish and chips and the fish was delicious as were the fries and coleslaw. My wife tried the crab grilled cheese sandwich with homemade chips and enjoyed her meal. Lots of tables inside and they efficiently process your order and call you up when it is ready.

On the night we went, a 1 1/4 pound lobster with corn on the cob and baked potato was $28. At a nearby restaurant, a similar item was $40. The food was fresh and delicious. Waterfront balcony (as well as indoor) seating. The trade off is that you order at the counter where you come get your food when they call your number. Highly recommended!

Expensive and the food was pretty average. I got the haddock dinner, piece of fish, carrots and potato. All bland ( ever heard of salt?) My husband had the lobster roll, and we shared lobster chower (the most flavorful thing there) crab dip zero flavor. The people were so very nice. It was Expensive especially if you were just getting lunch. They do have outdoor dining. It was about 90 dollars. We got 2 bloody Mary's and they were decent and had a good amount of alcohol

Thanks for coming in, however sorry your experience wasn’t as great as most. We don’t salt our foods (such as broiled haddock or carrots), as that is something that varies in consumer taste. Happy you enjoyed the chowder. If these complaints had been brought to our attention, we would have done our best to change your experience with us. Thanks!

I didn’t like the whole set up. I never felt relaxed. I ordered the lazy labor which I though would be a lobster served in a shell but cracked open. I have ordered lazy lobster on many trips to maine and it is always served in the shell and cracked. Kailer’s version however unbeknownst to me was chunks of lobster in a cup in some kind of liquid. The liquid did not taste like butter nor did my entree come with butter. I did not like the taste of it all. My husband ordered a whole lobster and he liked his meal. I took his butter but something was different about this butter but it did not taste like all the melted butters I had all week long. I was disappointed in my meal and won’t be back.

Kaler's was a recommendation from the Mid-Town Motel for good fish, lobster, burgers and mor. Kaler's is right on the harbor. Place and pay for your order at the front desk. When the order is ready they call your ticket number and you pickup from another counter. Fish 'n Chips were hot and good. Fish is 'weighed' versus using a 'count of pieces. Casual restaurant.

Excellent casual restaurant on the harbor. Kaler’s Resturant is open for the season June 2021. It is one of the few places that we have found fried oysters (most restaurants serve them raw on the half shell). The lobster pie was fantastic and the BLT with lobster was truly delicious. Friendly staff added to the relaxed atmosphere. Right next to Capn’ Fishes Puffin Cruise so very convenient for lunch.

We went here after puffin boat ride, Kaler's is very casual. We order at counter, then they called our number when the food was ready and when we were done we empty our trash. We had ribs with fries and yummy bake beans and blackened fish tacos. Everything was seasoned very well. They were extremely busy on a Monday. Its so wonderful to see a restaurant where all the employees were working together. Thank you for the wonderful food!!!

We tried to be on an "early bird" or "grandparent" eating schedule so that we'd eat earlier than other tourists, but no matter what we did we always got caught in the throngs. Food was delicious here and didn't have too much of a wait time, but still a wait. Staff was friendly, and we recommend the crab-grilled-cheese sandwich and the lobster roll.

Great lunch spot, wife had the fried scallops I had the fish in the basket, which was a large piece of fried fish. Walk in, place your order, they call you up to pick up, sit out on the dock and enjoy your meal. All the staff was very friendly.

Overlooking Boothbay Harbor eating sweet Maine lobster with a fork because the roll is overflowing is a real treat. The crispy home made potato chips complete the whole dining experience. The wait staff were pleasant and cheerful. The meal arrived within minutes of ordering. Watching the boats pass by was entertaining.
