Suds Pub has been an icon in Bethel, Maine for over a quarter century, welcoming locals and visitors alike. Family friendly, unpretentious and great value for money. Open every day from 11.30 For lunch, dinner and late night, with live music Thursday (open mike night), Friday and Saturday nights. Specialties include our hugely popular pizza: a small one topping pizza is available in the pub on Tuesday nights for only $5. Bed and breakfast accommodation is also available in the Sudbury Inn directly upstairs.

Great Tuesday $5 Pizza Night

Ate here twice with teens due to 1. Great food 2. Cheaper than others. Tuesday $5 pizza night was busy busy so we had a lovely couple from Massachusetts join our large table due to influx of people. We ended up seeing them again daily while skiing. Funny how that happens. Went back here for dinner again because we thoroughly enjoyed the first visit and it helped our budget plus it was within walking distance from where we stayed. It is in the basement of the Sudbury Inn and has a side entrance on the west side of the building. Friendly and relaxed environment. Lots of locals and tourists.

First off, I gave this 4 stars due to our waitress. I wish I had caught her name so I could mention her here. The young lady was knowledgeable about the menu and was attentive even though the pub was at least half full the night we were there. Unfortunately the night we were there they were out of their “world famous” wings. I tried the chili. The menu said it was award winning and the B&B reception desk had several awards hanging there for the chili. For my taste it was just average. Not sure I would get it again. It had a sweet aftertaste and not a lot of heat to it. I prefer chili that has more of a Smokey heat to it. My wife had the French onion soup and it was ok, not great. Overall we found the food to be just what it is, average bar food.

Good Pub Food

We checked into our B&B and walked to Sud's Pub for dinner. It was not very crowded, therefore the noise level was very low. We enjoyed the Pub food, wine, and a very good local beer. Sud's Pub has an extensive menu with reasonably priced items. The service was excellent but not intrusive.

Has gone way downhill in quality

I used to go to the Suds allllll the time so it pains me to write this, however it has taken a drastic turn for the worse. Before I explain my review I need to say that even while noting the all around decline in food, service, etc., I continued to support this local establishment giving the benefit of the doubt and hoping it would turn around. The service is less than mediocre unless you luck out and go on a rare night when a member of the waitstaff is attentive, and knows the menu and pricing. Look over your check very carefully. I was charged $18 for a item that was $15 on the menu. Count your change. On four separate occasions I was shortchanged. Not a substantial amount, but noticeable nonetheless. Each time I let it slide, mostly because getting the attention of the server was impossible. Next is the food. This is where the Suds USED to really shine both in quality and quantity. On my last (final) visit, I ordered a hot sandwich. What came out was cold, tasteless sandwich on a horrible excuse for a bun with ice cold fries and a pickle that I couldn’t eat. This is the kind of food you would find in a gas station convenience store. No signature spin on anything, just slapped together and thrown on a plate. Again, overcharged for the meal. I am pleased to see good reviews, however my opinion is that you could find better overpriced food and better service elsewhere.

Drinks yes food no

I should have known when I asked a local if we should eat here and she said, ‘no’. My husband and I sat at the bar and ordered some drinks and two meals: 1) soup and fries 2) a veggie burrito. The soup and fries came out promptly, but it took 30 minutes to receive my husband’s burrito. The bartender apologized, and basically said “it happened to others and we were not alone”. Bottom line….drinks are strong and I recommend. Food is mediocre at best and your family might be eating at the table at different times. Drink here yes, but eat before you come in.

Great food, good service, pub atmosphere

This is among the best of the casual restaurants in the Sunday River area. Lots of beer on tap, great food, fast and friendly service. I try to stop here each time I’m in the area. Lots of good choices, my favorites are the chicken parm, the Reuben, and the steak and cheese sub, but the burgers are good, and the pizzas too. I have always gotten good service here, efficient and friendly. Recommended.

We met so many nice folks during our dinner there. EVERYONE was friendly, except Richard. He's the quiet sort, I guess. Our server, Beth, was on loan from a place in Portsmouth and OMG was it our lucky night. She was a delight, informed, attentive and appeared to take care of 40+ restaurant patrons at once with a smile and positive attitude.

I want to come back when the band is playing

Stopped in for a couple of beers and dinner. The place was packed and I bet it's a ton of fun on a night when the band is playing. I had the bison burger lite - love that this is an option on the menu vice a specialty order. Decent beer selection. Friendly waitress who did an amazing job - especially considering how busy it was.

This place was recommended by our B&B hosts for a good lunch place. The good was great, and the atmosphere was cozy as well. They do a really great job with Pizza as well. Highly recommend it.

Great place to grab a chair and relax for dinner

I honestly think this pub used their last portion of lobster meat and split it in two in order to accommodate our order. We’ve been all over New England this weekend and this was just shameful

food and service was underwhelming

We ordered mussels, and over half had not opened upon cooking. Waitress said that every order came pre-measured...she took it off our bill. The beer menu was not extensive. Nothing memorable about this dinner.

A little scary entering this venue, but soon worth it! It's a fun and unique place with great food and service! We had pizza and it was amazing. Drinks were good and the prices were so reasonable, you felt like a local!!

Fall vacation.

We’ve been traveling through Bethel for many years and this was our first visit to the Suds Pub. What a great find! Very comfortable, friendly atmosphere. Everything from pizza to salmon and more. It was delicious! And Lisa… You are a gem❤️
