Timber Kitchen And Bar
Review
About
Timber Kitchen & Bar is one of the hottest spots to see Bangor. We embrace a loose-tie atmosphere, and our "Work Hard, Play Hard" motto defines our restaurant's ambiance. The buzz of conversation, enlivened music, and clinking of glasses creates an inviting environment that allows our guests to unwind after a long day. At Timber we combine class and hospitality to give our guests the best dining experience in Bangor. Timber translates the story of Bangor’s past into a modern-day dining destination. Bangor was known as the lumber capital of the world for much of the 19th century. Hundreds of lumber mills dotted the landscape along the Penobscot River and a continuous stream of logs flowed from the northern forests destined for ships sailing around the world. The design honors this rich history and celebrates Bangor’s role in the lumber industry.

I have the great privilege of dining all over the world and, despite enjoying these incredible experiences as I travel for business, I am never more satisfied then having my lunches and dinners at this little restaurant right in my own back yard. I dine there a lot (every few weeks) for outings with family, friends and above all, business. Timber is ALWAYS fantastic without fail and really the only setting to host a business dinner north of Portland or Portsmouth. At the risk of being ego centric, I like being recognized when I walk through the door and ushered to any one of their excellent tables. My dry martini soon follows with appetizers and then my usual entry and desert with coffee and Baileys. Seems simple enough, but what sets Timber apart even by International standards, is the professionally trained wait staff. Sadly, many patrons of this industry have been forced to settle (post COVID) for sub par or marginal service as one of the many deprivations still lingering from that awful era. At Timber, you will receive exceptional, timely, accurate, attentive service from servers who know etiquette, protocol and the proper methodologies in providing true value unlike any other establishment, anywhere. Last evening, we enjoyed MaKenna as our server and she was superb in every aspect of our dinner; a true professional with a sense of humor, whit and stunningly charming. She, like the other staff at Timber, combined with the operational tempo, ambiance, menu, bar, location and pricing, make this dining experience an overall value I would place against any other. Thank you, MaKenna, and everyone at Timber for restoring our faith in the service industry, and for another great night out in Bangor.

Terrific classy northern Maine feel. First rate with killer macaroni and cheese appetizer and a very good small steak with a small salad and delicious fingerling fries. The server Benjamin had just finished training and he provided excellent service. As both a comment on his professional capabilities and encouragement for a young person starting out I left him a large tip 130% of the cost of the meal.

We decided at the last minute to celebrate a big project I had just completed…and if you are going to do it up big in Bangor, Timber is my go-to spot.
The cranberry ginger margarita is perfect, but on a hot night, I need a larger drink. We were outside and it was around 80 degrees. Our server Kylie came up with a perfect solution. The next round of drinks had more sour mix, creating a larger, taller drink. Loved it. That is a drink that will get me back…soon.
We ordered the pan-seared Ahi tuna, which was cooked perfectly. And by that I mean fast. The wasabi aioli it comes with is just one example of why you pay a bit more for Timber. These are not line cooks, these are chefs with an eye for everything, including the plate presentation. I held back on embarrassing myself and licking the aioli off the plate…but it is that good. Visually, it’s a stunner. While somewhere else it might be served in a small bowl, at Timber is spread across the top of the entire board, looking like an ocean wave. I want to order it again just thinking about it. Caviar sprinkled across the top of the tuna adds a nice amount of salt, but also gives it a look of artistry.
Even with a full station, Kylie squeezed in some time to talk with us. (Keep your eye on this one, she is going places for sure.) When talking about various cocktails we learned Timber serves traditional olives with pimentos, but also blue cheese stuffed olives and Serrano pepper olives. We tried all three. The serranos nearly blew my head off, but I survived. Really, it added a lot to the evening, it’s fun to be adventurous.
The Earth bowl salad and buffalo chicken dip were excellent. Another great night at Timber, what a great crew.

My son and I randomly wandered in after attending a concert across the street. We both enjoy dining as a form of entertainment and Timber did not disappoint. The ambience was warm and lovely with a live fire and the feel of a rural chateau. Despite having an upscale menu, and associated prices, the cost of our meal was extremely reasonable - especially for the quality, service, and environment. We ordered the calamari, the lamb, and the salmon salad. The lamb was, by far, the best I've ever had, and my talented grandmother made a leg of lamb for most major holidays. The salmon was too well done for my taste but I didn't specify and understand that most people prefer fish cooked through. The flavor was fantastic though. Our server was Katya, be sure to ask for her if you have a choice! She was personable and a master of service. She made sure we had everything we needed and then some! We honestly weren't thrilled about the cross arena as a concert venue and probably won't be back for that but we were so impressed by our experience at Timber that we'll probably come back to stay at the Residence Inn anytime we want to explore other things in the area.

Timber has been my go to restaurant when we make the trip from FL to ME every summer to visit with family and friends in Bangor. Great food and service. Have dined there at least 12 x over the past 3 years and have never been disappointed with the food, service or dining experience.
Took my brother there for dinner on 7/16/2024 who came in from IL. Started with a couple craft beers, followed by salads. I had the Halibut, he the Scallops. Food was fresh and prepared well.
Our waiter, Andrew was spectacular! Great personality, great timing on meal delivery and didn't miss a step to promote and up sell.
My only surprise this trip was when us two 70+ year old men asked for another service of bread, he shared that there was a $1.50 up-charge for another bread basket; (four pieces of bread.) I accepted. As a retired restaurant operator, I must admit I was surprised and felt a little sympathy for any Timber server who had to communicate such policy to customers (in rural Bangor, <35 k population) who were spending some $90.00+ per person food average check. Though the bread was good, the product/size does not warrant a fee for the second service, plus the serving could be considered small for two hungry men. I would recommend that such a policy be reviewed by management/service staff. Maybe push to the third refill if concerned about abuse.
We will be back!

After an initial confusing encounter with the host anticipating a long wait we were seated almost immediately. Great and varied menu, reasonably priced.Beautifully arranged and delicious charcuterie board, all items thoughtfully explained when brought to our table. Incredible Mushroom Pizza for my husband and wonderful creative dinner salads for our friend and myself accompanied bybthe mist wonderful bread and butter. My only criticism would be that our main courses arrived well before we were done with our charcuterie board. There really wasn’t room on the table and I had to figure out how to rearrange the items on the small table, the server just left everything so some of us just couldn’t get to our food. We liked the restaurant so much though I can’t give Timber 4 stars.

I have been to Timber 3 times and the first 2 times were great. This dinner experience 2 nights ago was not and I write this just to alert diners that not all of the seating/tables provide for a nice experience. We spent over $200 for a nice dinner for the 3 of us on Thursday evening but were seated at a table that should not be an option. The table was a small table at the back of the right side directly next to the glassed fireplace. The fire probably provided a nice look to the dining room yet it was horrible to be seated right up against it. The chairs at this tiny table are 3 "short backless stools". The restaurant was busy and we were seated right away but the tables around us were all full. I wanted to go to the desk to see if we could change tables but my daughter and her boyfriend told me that would embarass them and we should just try to stay so I did not. Our entrees were very good (surf and turf, prime rib, special shrimp dish) but the price of these meals warranted at least a seat with a back and not sweating while eating. I feel that table should just be completely removed as an option given the beautiful tables all around us. It just does not make sense. If we had been asked when brought to the table if we were ok with it I would have definitely asked to wait for a regular table. Our service on this visit was poor as well but I think he may have just forgotten we were even there so maybe they do not always seat people at this table? It was just so unfortunate and I felt others should know if this table keeps being offered.

Thank you for your review. We apologize if you were not happy with your table next to the fireplace. We do seat these tables every day and have many guests that request this seating arrangement. If you are ever unhappy with any aspect of your dining experience at Timber please let us know during your visit so we have the opportunity to make sure you leave happy. The staff would have been eager to assist if they were ever given the opportunity.

We had to wait a little bit for our table, which was unusual for a Tuesday night but the restaurant is attached to a hotel, so locals as well as hotel guests found their way to the Timber kitchen. After being seated and served, we knew why: the food was delicious, the drinks very tasty and the server attentive and friendly.
Th portion sizes were good and while the food was on the more expensive side of things it was worth the money spend. My friend and I had a lovely evening and would come again if we ever visited Bangor for another trip.

I have been loyal patron of this establishment for years as a working professional in the area. I frequent Timber for lunch meetings with clients and often attend for evening meals in a personal capacity with my family. Timber is the best restaurant in the entire area (north of Portland) and probably in all of Maine. The service, menu, pricing and atmosphere are ALWAYS exceptional. We live in a post COVID era that has significantly lowered the expectations of consumers to accept sub par dining experiences as the new standard. Timber has maintained an unparalleled and uncompromising level of quality and VALUE in this challenging marketplace. Their service team is a well trained, disciplined and coordinated professional staff. I would be remiss in this review to not mention our favorite server, Marissa. I ask for her by name when she is available because she always remembers me (and my clients), all our favorite order items and even how my martini is prepared. Having dined all over the world in my profession, I always appreciate "coming home" to Timber where my face is recognized, my favorite table is ready and my dry martini is in the shaker. Marissa exemplifies Timber's professional ethos of personal service and meticulous attention to detail with every aspect of a dining experience perfectly executed. For these reasons and many more, I choose Timber to close business deals at lunch with valued clients and the venue to which I bring my own family and friends for dinner.

Absolutely phenomenal food and drinks. The steak and seafood were perfectly cooked. The portions were very large, and for the quality and quantity of food and drinks, the prices were very reasonable. The best part was our server, Ian. We had a lot of questions, and he knew exactly how to answer all of them. He also knew exactly when we needed something and magically appeared every time. He was a master at being attentive without being intrusive. He's clearly very good at this. Thank you, Ian!

Haddock sandwich was greasy and cold. Glass of wine cost as much as a bottle, and the sweet potato fries were dried out, limp, and also cold. Totally not impressed - very pretentious menu for nothing really special. Big deal. Wait staff, however, were very accommodating.

Our experience at this restaurant was wonderful… until unfortunately after a 30 minute wait, our server delivered one of us the wrong meal (wich was 12$ more then the one i had ordered). I did not want to make my husband and four kids wait another half an hour for them to fix my meal so i ate the food they had given me and decided not to complain. They then proceeded to charge me 32 American dollars for the meal i had not ordered and said it was just « company policy » and that they would not change it. As well as charging us for a second meal we had not ordered nor received. Not impressed.

Thank you for the review. Your server made an error and ordered a salmon entree rather than a salmon salad. We apologize. Mistakes happen and we will always correct them when possible. In this situation we did try to do just that. When the salmon entree was brought out you mentioned the error but insisted on keeping the entree. The staff offered multiple times to bring you a salmon salad which would have taken only a moment to prepare but you insisted on keeping the entree. The bill only included the salmon entree. The meal that you had eaten in its entirety. You were not charged for a second meal so I am not sure why that comment was in your review. Thank you.

We took guests "from away" to Timber with some trepidation as the food never seems to live up to ambiance. On Tuesday night it did!
The four of us each ordered a different entree and we all agreed that our choice was "just right"! The service was attentive and the outdoor setting besides the fire was a perfect way to spend an evening.

Normally all fine, but since I visit often I become more critical. Things I would change: take sushi/tuna off menu unless you can provide a grade above what you supply. Probably comes from vendor and often fishy. No comparison to what’s great. Pasta sauce could be improved as could el dente. Not bad but compared to what’s great and what Timber represents I’d bring it up a notch plus quantity.. I only want Timber to be the Best in Bangor. It is now, but never be satisfied!

Timber Kitchen and Bar is our all time favorite place to go for dinner on special occasions, and to entertain out of-town guests. The atmosphere is elegant and cozy all at the same time, allowing for guests to be comfortable in jeans and T-shirts, but also to be at home in dress attire.
The wait staff is professionally dressed, impeccable in appearance and demeanor, and always friendly and accommodating.
Our anniversary dinner last night was no exception! We showed up without a reservation, but were seated quickly. Our server, Nolan, was attentive and helpful, but also gave us time to browse the menu while he brought our drinks. He checked in with us frequently, brought more wine when we realized we ordered too little up front, and delivered our dessert with a special Anniversary slice of chocolate. He was engaging and pleasant!
We ordered two favorite items, and were glad we did so! The short ribs, always a favorite of my husband, and the ribeye steak. Both were prepared perfectly, and the side dishes were great complements. The roasted asparagus never disappoints!
This is not our first visit to Timber, and will definitely won’t be our last!
