This bakehouse is a hidden gem within the historical district of Bangor. We were delighted by the vast offerings of baked goods in the morning and tempted to return for the lunch menu which includes hot items. The staff are friendly and courteous. The atmosphere is comforting and invites one to relax. Only complaint I have is that I wish... More

Stopped in here for lunch during a business trip to Bangor. Greeted by a friendly friar who recommended the roast beef sandwich for my lunch. To call this a sandwich is a bit of a misnomer, I got a ton of roast beef with a couple sliced of bread. It was tasty and oh-so filling! I also got a whoopie... More

Friar's Bakehouse was listed as a favorite in "The Rough Guide to New England", so I checked them out on TA. The one review that caught my eye was scathing, but the response from the Friar's Bakehouse was priceless, so I had to see for myself. It's a hole in the wall cafe, run by Franciscan Friars. As the sign... More

I can only describe the fare at the Friars' Bakehouse as comfort food at its finest, the kind that sticks to your ribs and warms your heart. The type of food that we all love and the Friars' Bakehouse knows how to provide. This, of course, does not include the delicious confections which are in a category all their own.... More

Perfect scones and good coffee, a gem in Bangor. The soup smelled good. Simple, hearty food, made just right. Loved the creepy-beautiful religious décor.

You must try Friar's Bakehouse! Great food, good atmosphere and friendly people! They make their food, fresh daily from what I can see. I went at lunch time with a friend, a very busy place and small but worth the time. I enjoyed talking to Brother Ken. I had a really good and well portioned lobster roll. For desert I... More

Friars Bakehouse is one of my favorite stops while visiting Bangor. The brothers are warm and friendly and the food is heavenly-macaroons are gluten free and are delicious with a cup of coffee. I have never had a bad meal and it is first on my list when in Maine!

I found this little place by accident and had a terrific meal and great conversations with total strangers. I had the Chowdah and Lobstah roll which was served on homemade bread that was like none I had ever tasted. The food was great but the arrangement of the tables were set up to eat with total strangers. I had graet... More

Description
Friars' Bakehouse is a small bakery smack in the downtown of Bangor, Maine. It is operated by the Franciscan Brothers of St. Elizabeth of Hungary. The baking brother is a master at his craft. Due to the fact that the establishment has only one baker and all of the baked goods are artisan, you will not find the variety that is available at larger thaw and bake bakeries. Hours of operation are Tuesday through Friday from 8:30 a. m. until 2:00 p. m. When the shop is closed, Friars' breads are available at the Fairmount Market on Hammond St.Friars' Brewhouse is a adjunct to but, separate from the bakery. The baker has branched out and is now creating artisan beers in the same manner that he creates breads and pastries. The actual Brewhouse is located on the 34 acre grounds of St. Elizabeth Monastery perched on the side of Orcutt Mountain in lovely Bucksport, Maine. NO BEER IS SOLD OUT OF THE FRIARS' BAKEHOUSE! We have teamed up with Bangor Wine and Cheese Co. on Hammond Street. All of our fine brews are available there on a regular basis. Stop in at the Bangor Wine and Cheese an say, "Hello!" to Eric and Christine.
