Had a great Saturday evening at the busy Compasses Inn. Food was superb and beautifully presented. The bottle of water on the table and home made bread and butter (yum) were a nice touch. The service was good, although a little inattentive, but this didn't detract from the warm and welcoming atmosphere. You'll need a sat nav to find the... More

The compasses has all the appearances of a charming Kent country pub, seemingly perfect for a relaxed lunch with a small group of friends, however it seeks to be a staid restaurant with expectations of the finest food. The atmosphere was initially dampened by being told that failing to give 24 hours notice that one person was unable to join... More

We had this place recommended by a friend so decided to give it a try and we were not disappointed. We had booked a table in the bar area as we had our dog. There was a nice atmosphere and both of us enjoyed the 3 course meal £17.95. The was a good selection of wines to choose from and... More

Compared with many a Michelin standard meal this place is great value. The attention to detail is obvious from the deliciously light homemade bread to the generous but flavoursome creme brulee. I also must say a big thank you to the owner as one of our party unbeknown to us had just started some medication which meant she had to... More

Day out walking in the beautiful Kent countryside. Arrived at 2.30 for lunch after being hopelessly lost to a warm and empathic welcome from the staff. This is all that is good about a village pub - fires, excellent food and welcoming staff. Dozed by the fire and in no time our lunch arrived. Bit of a walking tradition that... More

Met a friend for lunch and both hadn't been to The Compasses for many years so gave it a go. Not disappointed, friendly staff and excellent food. Had the Gnocchi starter followed by the fish and chips, both excellent

My wife wanted somewhere new and something special for Mothering Sunday lunch so she chose this location and it certainly lived up to expectations. From the moment we opened the door we saw that it was full of character and the barman gave us a warm welcome. We walked through a second comfortable-looking bar to the restaurant which was also... In the national media recently as a place to go for Sunday lunch. Four of us went for a mid week lunch. People who had not booked were turned away. Very busy.In terms of service they should perhaps stagger their bookings. That said the meal was just short of excellent and the staff were friendly and attentive. Kitchen was a... More

Description
Hidden away above the Downs between Canterbury and Ashford, the Compasses Inn is a great find, whether you are looking for A-La-Carte Cuisine, a Sunday Roast, a Light Snack or just a couple of pints of fine Kentish Real Ale. Although proud of our restaurant and food, we never forget that the Compasses has a long tradition as a great pub and we seek to carefully balance the two. We are family friendly with a large garden complete with climbing frames for the kids to wear themselves out on! We are also dog friendly (well behaved only) both inside and out. We have ample parking even when fully booked.
