Ordered a 3 meat plate plus extra meat and didnt get all that I ordered. Very disappointed. Not only was there hardly any meat they gave me a very small portion. All I got was three small slices of brisket, maybe half a sausage link...and dont know what the other meat was but I ordered pork and ribsMore

I have been driving by Real BBQ nearly everyday for five years for work. I'm from Texas and have never found any satisfying BBQ yet in this state. After reading an article on this establishment in Texas Monthly that highlighted the owner was from Texas...originally and I was intrigued but still skeptical. Finally one day I drove in and dove in. Ordered the three meat plate. pork spareribs, sausage and sliced brisket. Sides were beans and coleslaw delivered with a bottle of BBQ sauce. Nothing was great nothing was bad. In My estimation the brisket had virtually no bark and was not smoky and seemed like it had not been smoked long enough it was okay. Sausage was okay as well. Ribs had good taste but were too chewy for what i'm used too and a little dry as well. The sides were forgettable beans were extremely spicy but edible and the slaw tasted okay but was too mushy and limp for me. The sauce was unique though very vinegary, sweet and spicy which at first was off putting but it grew on me before I was finished. If you just have to have BBQ in Shreveport you could do worse and I did get full.. The people who work there were friendly and the service was good. The atmosphere was comfortable and had a homey feel to it. It does not compare to top Texas BBQ but having said that there is worse in Texas as well.More

I came to Real because I saw the reviews and the pictures were inviting. I talked to the cashier and asked if they serve the "moist/fatty" portion of brisket. She said "yes" and she knew what I was talking about. When I got the brisket...plate, it was hard and seemed like it was old. The sides were not tasty and it was not the type of brisket I was used to like Rudy's (Texas), Righteous BBQ and Fox Brothers (Atlanta) where the brisket is caramelized with a crispy crust when you order moist. I was disappointed because the owner was very nice. Sad to say I will not be going back.More

Reviewer had the 5 ribs plate, companion had the 2 meat plate - brisket and chicken. You also get 2 sides and some toast. Nobody except carry-out ever leaves hungry. We’ll be back once we work off the calories.

Passing through Shreveport and were getting hungry and this sounded good. Asked what was good and was told brisket, and brisket sausage. We tried both and they were right! Service was great and the food even better...can understand why they are rated so high! Try...the corn as a side...seasoning was awesome! We would recommend highly!More

My husband and I had the 2 meat plates with two side dishes. We tried ribs, brisket and turkey. The meats were outstanding, flavorful with a nice herbal blend sprinkled over the turkey. Their fries were hot and crunchy, all that you would desire. That...is where the sides went downhill. The coleslaw was totally flavorless, even with the addition of copious amounts of salt and pepper. My husband had the beans and Mac and cheese, both of which he tried one bite and left on the table. The Mac and cheese was hard and dry and totally unappetizing. The beans were too flavorful with way too much smoke taste. One bite was good, two bites was overpowering. Although others have raved about the iced tea, my unsweetened tea was little more than slightly tea flavored water. A waste at $2 a glass. I’d go back for the meats, sauce and fries, but nothing else. Poppa did stop by our table just as our food was being delivered so we couldn’t make any comments to him about the taste of various options. A noble effort to offer some good locally produced food in Shreveport.More

My friend and I each enjoyed the Cowboy sandwich with both chipped brisket and sausage. We shared the sides of mac n cheese and cheese fries. All was really, really good! I can't tell you how great it was to have sausage that isn't greasy!...And the mac n cheese was the best I've had in quite some time! Great sauce and the perfect amount for the sandwich. The brisket was so good....not really sure I would have needed sauce at all. More food than we could eat but we sure wanted to finish it!!!More

We had brisket here tonight. The brisket has a great smokey flavor and is so tender it just melts in your mouth. The owner comes around and visits and has some amazing stories. This is a definite place to put on your list to try...whether you live in the area or are just passing through.More

We went there today because my husband was REALLY wanting barbecue. The food was interesting, to say the least. The lady who waited on us recommended the tacos and the brisket. I got the tacos; my husband got the brisket. The tacos were quite good....My one complaint was that I asked for the pico to be put on the side and they didn't do that. No big thing...I just picked it off. They had coleslaw and the BBQ sauce on the tacos. So good. The coleslaw and mac n'cheese was very good, too. My husband's brisket had a strange seasoned salt on it (which we didn't expect), however that did not deter him. He ate all of it. Good food, though a little spendy. It was almost $30 for the two of us to eat.More
