. There is so much like about The Market, even if from time to time forgiveness may be called for. My wife and I have dined there almost weekly for many years. Like some other reviewers, we, too, have dined at some of the finest...in the US and Europe. . It’s worth noting that two different experiences are possible, maybe more. The bar is definitely casual and welcoming to all. I like it because that’s where the action is, TV’s and all. Through an inside door is a quiet dining room with white table clothes, more intimate and perhaps more relaxing, a place you might want to linger. Same food, same prices, same service. . Karen, the owner, prepares some great food, using the best ingredients she can get. There are many items that are dependably good. Her chicken offerings begin with organic chicken and never disappoint. Her homemade soups are always outstanding. Italian offerings are dependably excellent. She takes personal pride in every aspect of the restaurant. . We sometimes stop at The Market on the way home from a party or even after dining somewhere else. She has an array of deserts broader than anywhere in area. . Regrettably for regulars like us, they get slammed sometimes, and we’ve had to leave for another place, but we know that they are doing their level best, and the big party jamming things will not leave disappointed. Market staff do the most and the best they can in all circumstances. . We go back and back again because we enjoy the whole dining experience, and I highly recommend that you try it and judge for yourself. My wife and I enjoy Michelin-starred food and service, but we never tire of The Market. Located on the south edge of town, it’s worth the time and effort to find. . Dr. Scott says: Check this one out.More

The Market is a wonderful neighborhood restaurant, casual or fine dining. The menu is fantastic! The appetizer tuna dip is delicious!

Not a crawfish fan but we do really like fresh shrimp, they were cooking them up fresh and a one pound basket was all the two of us could eat (well and still have one of the desserts...which are really good here).

First time we visited a month or so a go very good. This time average to poor. Grilled Caesar the highlight of the meal Downhill from there. My ribeye was overdone my potatoes, mashed were cold. Told waiter but never heard another word about it...from the kitchen. Wife’s snapper, average, service indecisive. I’d give it another chance but for tonight, very disappointing after a previously enjoyable meal. Got to get their consistency down to be a good or great dining option.More

The Market Restaurant is a locals’ favorite......a slightly funky place with good food giving the diner more taste than expected. Separate casual and upscale dining rooms with separate menus, but locally famous for crawfish dinners ( in season). But my favorite is the boiled shrimp...dinner.... a mound of large shrimp cooked in Cajun spices with corn, red potatoes, and baked onion , wow!! .... what flavor! Full bar and wine list. Owner chef prepares wonderful desserts..... all this food at fair prices! Far south side of Shreveport off Southern Loop , about a mile west of I-49 in thriving restaurant area near Southern Trace CC. More than worth the short drive! Most taste for the $ in Shreveport!!More

The Market Restaurant has been open for quite some time, but this was our first visit. Nothing special about the atmosphere. The lack of parking could be a problem at busy time. Service was friendly and fast. All 4 in our party ordered different entrees...and all were pleased with our choices. There are 2 menus with lots of options. We'll return.More

It was hard to tell if the restaurant was open or not. If there had not been one table occupied, we would have left. They need more staff. Only one person handling the whole restaurant & if he is off getting change in another part...of the hotel or in the kitchen placing orders, no one is there. Food was good but slow in coming out although at this time we were the only customers there.More

Ordered fish which tasted like it was just taken out of a deep freezer after being placed with rotten food for a year. It's expensive, but i couldn't even finish it because it was so bad. It arrived doused with some type of sauce which...didn't help hide the taste. I was stunned because I had heard such good things about this place, and it is close by to me. One of the worst meals I've ever had. What a waste of money, wow.More

My best friend let me tag along to her business meeting and we ended up having lunch in the hotel of her conference. The choices were limited but i was ok with that....my burger was great! I ordered medium rare and the juices were flowing...and the burger was seasoned just right. It was bigger than the average burger but not too big that it couldn't be finished in one sitting. The wait staff was very cordial and prompt.More

After a friend's recommendation, I was excited to try this restaurant with my boyfriend. We are foodies who have eaten all over the country and with The Market's claim to fame being quaint elegance, organic food, and having a weekly menu, I was ready. As...we live within 5 minutes of the restaurant we were looking for 'our' spot.' A place with great food within minutes of the house if we wanted take out, and close if we wanted to dine. We arrived at 550 on a Saturday to a moderately busy casual side and an empty fine dining side. There was one other table besides ours. It was quaint, but in an outside the city limits type of way. We sat down with our menus and waited... And waited. This was to be the theme for the night. At 610 our drink orders were taken with an apology for taking so long. At 630 our appetizers were ordered and our drinks arrived with another apology. We had been there 40 minutes, but got our 1st drink and were still forgiving. Still we decided to order our appetizers and food at the same time because a prom table of 12 had just sat down. They were the only other table at this point. 710, 40 minutes after our order and I have been done with my drink the waitress ask if we want another one and we are like YES, please. 725, the prom table receives their dinner despite coming in 30 minutes after us. 730, we receive our appetizers one hour after we order them with yes, another apology from the waitress. By this time another table has come in. They get their drinks and appetizers by 800. At 805 the waitress comes by and offers us a free round of drinks. This is 1 hr and 35 minutes after we ordered our food. At this point, my boyfriend explains we have been here over 2 hours, haven't gotten our food or drinks in a timely manner and what we really would like is our food to go and a check. What did we pay to not get dinner and finally leave 2 hours and 40 minutes after our arrival? $170 BEFORE tip. No manager, no owner talked to us. Just a round of drinks every 30-40 minutes, appetizers, and a boxed dinner. The food: Appetizers- Goat Cheese and Sun Dried Tomatoes: Good, a little sweet but the boyfriend loved it. Crab Stuffed Shrimp: nice sauce, great flavor Gumbo: really good but would have been better had there been salt and pepper shakers on the table. Mediterranean salad: a little too much acid and a lot too much dressing. Over all a lack of management response on a place which bills itself as fine dining means we will not be giving it another chance. Very disappointed.More

On arriving the owner asked if we were eating crawfish and I said one of us will be. She then stated that we could not eat in the dining area. The waitress was horrible. No silverware and when we asked she threw it down. lol....OK! I ordered ahi tuna which was cold. Not a good atmosphere. Kind of stuck up people. I am bewildered because I was told it was such a great place. Welcome to Louisiana!!!!More

I am very tough when it comes to culinary experiences. I had actually been told that this place was "fine" before going here and went I expecting it to be just that. My husband had the ribeye and I had lamb with polenta. I thoroughly...enjoyed the food. It wasn't melt-in-my-mouth-good, but it wa still worth it. The wine list was very good and diverse enough that I was able to find a good pairing. The service was perfect: not too much attention, not too little. My only complaint is the atmosphere. The atmosphere was relaxing and romantic but not feel out of place wearing business casual. I would not come here with my husband wearing a jacket and me a nice dress. Overall, very good experience.More

quite unique we walked into the bar area where people were watching sports eating boiled shrimp and hamburgers, thought Oh no!. were told by this was fine dining. a server approached us and ask fine dining or casual. we were escorted through a door and...there we were in a cozy Italian theme room, very pleasing. than the menu was explained all organic and made to order and it changes weekly. we started with a goat cheese appetizer that was better than the server said, had a fruity big bold zinfandel upon her suggestion awesome. Then Tracy our server recommended the Ahi tuna rare with a Miso Aioli, I have traveled a lot and this is a hit or miss item, my wife ordered the goat cheese and sundried tomato stuffed chicken breast. can I tell you by far the best Ahi Tuna I have ever eaten and the Grilled Vegetables wonderful. my wife said she would never forget the stuffed chicken and her roasted garlic mashed potatoes had whole cloves of buttery roasted garlic. really a wonderful experience. we will return on our next trip.More
