Everything was delicious at the St. John Restaurant. We ordered a variety from the menu and enjoyed all of it. Fried seafood, crab cakes and crawfish were very good.

Visiting the beautiful historic Acadian region in St. Martinville we wanted to have a true crawfish gumbo. We got it and learned that there are, as expected, so many recipes as cooks exist. This one was without veggies. Highly recommend restaurant.

There is no doubt about it, this is one of the finest restaurants I have ever been to anywhere in the world. The food is outstanding. The service is excellent. Everything about the experience is superior in quality. Why give it a 4 out of...5. We had just two of us. Our bill with a generous tip (no alcoholic beverages) was right at $80. The food was perfect. The service was perfect. And then they ruined the experience with greed. I had the best crab cakes I have ever had in any restaurant. Crab cakes, corn and crab bisque, and clam chowder are my three favorite things to eat, so when I say the best crab cakes ever it is high praise. I asked for bechamel sauce for my two crab cakes and they up-charged me $3.00. Come on, two crab cakes, no matter how wonderful they are, for $25 and you charge $3.00 for two teaspoons of bechamel sauce? I’m sorry but that is simple greed on the part of the owners of this fine establishment. Will I return? You bet your boots I will return. If they charge me $3.00 for two teaspoons of bechamel again I will downgrade them again. When you run a fine establishment with premium prices you include a sauce on a high priced entree. That is why it is sold at a premium price. For outstanding service and outstanding food. I paid the $3.00, didn’t say a word when I left other than to thank them for the excellent food, service, and told them I look forward to our next visit. It’s 3:00 AM and I woke up not thinking about how great the meal was, but about how greedy the owner of St. John Restaurant truly is.More

Been eating in South Lousiana a loooong time and am a decent cook myself. This is some of the finest Cajun cooking I have found! Great atmosphere and service as well.

Nice atmosphere in an old warehouse located along the river. But, that's where it ends. This establishment is attempting to be upscale, but it's being held back by servers with all of the skills of the Waffle House hash slingers, and a slow and spotty...kitchen. There is skill in being a good/excellent server, and it does not begin with "Ya know whatcha want?" Aside from the lack of skilled servers, it was also clear there was considerable disorganization as food was constantly going to the wrong tables, and there were not enough servers as well. When our food finally did arrive I was stunned to see the condition of the much touted crab cake. It was obviously grilled as it was black one both sides and lukewarm in the middle. An absolute desecration to incinerate delicate crabmeat. The side of grits that came with it was not creamy, but rather appeared to have been cooked in oil. But, the grilled frog legs were very good. How sad it was to see a place with so much going for it fail in so many areas, especially after we had traveled almost an hour to go there.More

Stopped at The St.John Restaurant in St. Martinville upon recommendation of a local we were visiting. She highly recommended we order the crabcakes. We did and have only one word to say about them "OUTSTANDING". The crabcakes were made with about 85% real chunks of...crab and the rest filling to make and keep it round, together and moist. The luncheon special offered two crabcakes with a twice baked potato which was also delicious. If you only wanted one, the appetizer list offered one. Everyone opted for two and we were extremely glad we did. Matter of fact I ordered a luncheon 'to go' as well. They were so good, couldn't resist. The menu also had a lot of other dishes to order but we were especially pleased with the crabcakes.More

St. John Restaurant was originally an old ice house - left vacant for many years, abandoned, and dilapidated, the owner has taken this diamond in the rough and truly transformed it into a charming gem. Excellent atmosphere, and fantastic food. I'd call for reservations (my...favorite place to sit overlooks the Bayou Teche) they are known to be busy - especially on the weekends.More

We were camping nearby and didn't want to cook. What a comfortable, welcome place to find and our food was very good. My wife had a nice steak and I went for a fried seafood platter. Their fry game is strong, and everything on my...platter tasted fresh and well prepared. We ate an early dinner and it was no surprise to see a steady stream of locals filing in on a Friday night; always a good sign.More

I take off for a two hour lunch here every two weeks or so. Have been having gumbo but yesterday I decided to have the tenderloin rib eye stir fry with fries. The stir fry was excellent as always, the fries, top! Supper is great...as well.More
