Boudin egg rolls and bread pudding were good. Fried shrimp had a funny taste and pasta was very bland. Had 6 people in our family and charged 20% tip, plus another 3% for paying with a card. Tip would have been worth it if service...was good but our drinks were never refilled and waitress was rude when asked for a refill.More

The food is great at this place, but it is very crowded. It's a small place in downtown Ruston and is very popular.More

Sat at the bar with 8 baseball players and a couple friends. Svc was great, waiter was fun and polite. Everyone enjoyed their dishes. I had the “peacemaker” poboy. It was excellent. Homemade onion rings and fried pickles were also very good. We are from...Lafayette and know great food. Highly recommend this place.More

Hubby and I were smart and made a 6:30 PM reservation here as the Peach Festival was going on, making this restaurant extra busy. So glad we did! When we got there, there were at least 6 or more couples sitting outside waiting to get...in and we walked right in, announced our reservation and were brought immediately to our table. The food was not only excellent, but they provide more than enough portion-wise for the money. Ordered a cup as opposed to a bowl of gumbo as an appetizer and that cup almost looked like a bowl! Absolutely delicious! I would recommend this restaurant as a "do not miss" if you are staying in town. I would definitely suggest making a reservation even if nothing is going on in town as the restaurant is not very large, so if they are even just a little busy, you may have a wait. Ponchatoulas is VERY MUCH WORTH EVERY PENNY!!!!More

Sucks but won’t come back and i eat at a lot of top...restaurants. Why have a closing time if your not gonna stay open. SadMore

I had grilled shrimp and vegetables which was delicious. My husband ordered chicken and sausage jambalaya. He never found the chicken. They were short staffed so service was slow but the two waitresses were really hustling.

We were in town for my daughter’s softball tournament and decided to give it a try and it was Fantastic! Amazing food! Everything is fresh and delicious 😋. Boudin Egg Rolls and stuffed catfish was great our server was great as well the lady who...seated was kinda rude she didn’t want to seat our large group and was trying to talk us out of waiting but we decided to split in smaller groups so we could give it a try.More

I don't get the hype on it. It's below average seafood for a price higher than New Orleans good quality seafood. People in Ruston just think bland food and improperly cooked cajun food is delicious. Go further down south and people wouldn't like it. In...fact a lot of people I know from further south that did try it didn't like it. They just don't leave reviews on trip advisor. Not many people do. So that's why it's "#1 in Ruston"More

The best part of our dinner here was the reasonably priced 22oz Holy Roller beer for $7.00 and the large bowl of File Gumbo for $9.50. Otherwise, we thought the food was average at best. The Shrimp Po Boy was as basic as they come;...limited flavor. Same for the Pasta Salad; basic and bland. The vegetables that came with the Grilled Shrimp With Vegetables were actually tasty. All-in-all, we thought the food was average at best; good for those not looking for the familiar. We haven't been in a restaurant in a long time that charged a fee to pay by credit card - so there is that.More

Super good bayou grub! Bar atmosphere, which always means good food to me. We had good service, despite the fact they were super busy. My daughter ordered the chicken finger platter. We had fried green tomatoes with the remoulade. They weee very good but the...breading was pretty spicy and seemed thicker than the tomato. I ordered the catfish and shrimp platter. It was so filling I couldn’t eat but about two fries. Both meals came with a salad, and we ordered Caesar. I ordered a crab cake on the side. I love them and can’t get them at home. I’d highly recommend this place. There’s a bar next door and you could hear live music bellowing out of it. Ponchatoula’s is located right downtown Ruston and is within walking distance to shops and downtown live music.More

We have been to Ponchatoulas's a number of times over the years and considered the restaurant to be pretty good but not great. Tonight we were disappointed. We started with fried mushrooms and these were very good. The servers were attentive and our power boys...were delivered quickly. Here's where things fell apart: My husband enjoyed his oyster po boy but my order gave problems I had ordered the roast beef sandwich on sourdough bread and was disappointed to find the whole sandwich was completely cold. (This is supposed to be hot, including the debris gravy. ) Nope. It was cold, so I asked a server to take it back to the kitchen so it could be warmed up. This makes a grand total of three times I have ever sent anything back to the kitchen. After about five minutes or so, the sandwich was returned, STILL absolutely cold! Not edible. Yes, the cost of the sandwich was taken from the bill and the server apologized for the problem. She offered to bring something else but my husband was nearly through with his meal so I declined. My point is this--a manager should have been alert to the problem and taken care of it. I never saw a manager. I am not mad, just disappointed. Not planning to return here either.More

First time in Ruston and Ponchatoulas was always the fist mentioned when asking for dining recommendations. Got stuck in the middle between lunch and dinner around 2:30 and our party was starved. Ordered the Meat Pie Basket as an appetizer. Came with a ranch dressing...for dipping and atop a mound of fries. Ate the small pies stuffed with beef and came five to an order. Very good. Then ordered a combo meal of fried crawfish tails and étouffée. Came hot loaded with at least 30 crawfish tails and a half a plate of étouffée. Delicious, but almost too much food. Wanted to try the white chocolate bread pudding, but no room (should have got an order to go for later). Service was good and prices very reasonable, compared to the amount of food and quality.More

We like this spot. Every time we come to town, we eat here one of those days. The food is good and tasty for area. We stopped in today and the fries were old and you could tell because everything was freshly fried. It seemed...to be an issue with us saying the fries weren’t fresh. I could hear the guy in the kitchen and we were sitting at the top!! Definitely didn’t want to send them back but they were hard and cold.More

The grilled chicken, fish, and shrimp with grilled vegetables. You can do no rice or bread and that would work.
