This is our 2nd visit -- we drove out from New Orleans to visit the Barataria Preserve and have lunch here. All the food is wonderful -- all the sauces and dressings house made. Charbroiled Oysters were a hit, and the seafood gumbo is tasty....More

My sister, brother and their spouses fished all day in Barataria Bay for redfish so we were famished. We're all Louisianians, so eating good seafood with a cajun flair isn't foreign to us. Our guide recommended Restaurant des Familles knowing we wanted good food. The...More

Stopped here lunch after our amazing airboat ride thru the swamps of Lafitte. The location is pretty cool nestled next to the swamp with gators lazing about (saw a least two) giving the restaurant a great atmosphere. Service was a little stiff but prompt and...More

Its a nice restaurant. Some of the food we ate was very tasty. I forgot that so many things in N.O. are fried so was a little surprised when my seafood platter arrived and EVERYTHING was fried. Was tasty anyway and enjoyed. But what we...More

Excellent meal while watching the gater from our table. Prices were normal for the area and the service was great.

I brought an out of town friend to Restaurant des Familles recently. It's a beautiful out of the way place on a bayou, beautifully lit in the evening with nice ambiance outside and very nice inside with huge picture windows overlooking the bayou. I always...More

We ordered the chargrilled oysters dozen and the seafood platter for lunch. The oysters were fatty and tasty, but you could tell they were not attached to the original shell, sometimes there were two oysters in one shell. It didn't bother me but in other...More

Restaurant des Familles is a very attractive venue in the middle of nowhere. I did enjoy the onion rings with remoulade sauce appetizer - very lightly coated and wonderfully crisp. That remoulade sauce was the best I've ever tasted but don't even think about asking...More

Bayou des Familles, a lazy waterway home to many alligators, turtles, egrets and other wildlife, takes center stage as our restaurant's design provides its diners with a natural picture show. It's in this setting where friends and family unite to experience southern Louisiana charm and culture in its finest form. It's an experience your friends and family will not soon forget. The 17-mile journey from downtown New Orleans will take you through the Jean Lafitte National Park. You'll arrive at Restaurant des Familles and park under moss-filled century old oak trees. The restaurant's Acadian-style architecture provides a glimpse of bayou life that once was. Our menu features authentic representations of Cajun and Creole favorites such as Crawfish Etouffee, Seafood & Okra Gumbo, Grilled Redfish and Turtle Soup. Our signature dish, Alligator Stuffed Mushrooms with Alligator Sauce Piquant will tempt even the most timid diner. We look forward to your visit.
