Decided to give my beloved Nuvo’s a third try under the new management. If anything, it was worse this time. They have made poor decisions regarding changes to existing menu items, additions to the menu, deletions in wines, additions in wines, and food presentation. The...Staff were courteous and helpful as usual, and they tried to help me decide on the new menu page. I was told our regular red wine was no longer available. Well, it is elsewhere, and besides, Wally would always have a variety of others for us to choose from. The menu is a one-page cardstock with wines on the back. Cheap looking, kind of like an Applebees. The specials were printed on a sheet of paper and included Fried Mozzarella. Just like a chain restaurant. The ‘fresh’ fish was Swordfish. Really? Who caught it? This is typically vac-packed or flash frozen fresh, in commercial fishing boats offshore. Where is the Puppy Drum, Black drum, Redfish, Speck trout, Flounder or anything fresh and local? Next they will offer Tilapia. The first time we went after the transition, it was somewhat of a disappointment, but still similar. The fish was local fresh, and grilled, and it was still served with haricot vert and Wild Rice Pilaf. The presentation was different, as it was not stacked as in the past, but spread across the plate. On the second visit, I subbed Grilled Shrimp in the Oysters Fontina, something many of us have done in the past. The shrimp came out with thick batter and over cooked. It tasted pre-battered. The so-called Pork Belly was floppy, semi-cooked and flavorless. Wife got the “Crispy” Eggplant with head-on shrimp appetizer. The eggplant was cut over 1 inch thick on one side and ½ inch on the other, like a wedge. It was wet, soggy and flavorless, and resembled a mushy green tomato wedge. The two shrimp tails had been pushed against two floppy shrimp heads that were not even attached. Ugh. There is a guy who must be the Dining Room manager who walks around but does not seem to interact with his customers or workers. When we left early during the shrimp trip, our server said the Mgr wanted to comp a dessert and also gave my Wife another wine while she was in the restroom. Um, no thank you, we are leaving and checking out. It felt awkward. Also, why go through the server and not ask the Customer what their issues were? Wally or David, and most of the senior staff would always check the reaction to a dish coming out to gauge your satisfaction with it. If something was wrong or inconsistent, they would normally notice and make it right. This gentleman seems nice, but tends to wander around or linger at the Hostess stand, change music on the TV (I was listening to that), and he appears to be in training. Oh, and the house music system he switched it to only played one stereo channel in the Bar, which made it sound like 3 minutes of repetitive bad hold music turned up too loud. Gone are the Scallops, local fresh fish, crispy eggplant medalions, olive oil/garlic puree for bread, Wine selection, personalized experience & interaction, and I do not know what next. More large private events like what Benedicts became? What a shame. Such a historic place that was always run like an upscale neighborhood establishment. Good job for almost 40 years, Wally, we already miss you. Now it is a flagship for an investment group where cash beats quality.More

Had dinner here on 8/27, for a party of 6. Food was good for the most part. Had the veal panne, which included lasagna. The lasagna had a slightly burnt crust. The menu changed a couple of months ago, we did hear that they got...a new head chef. They dropped a few long standing items, that I liked. The portions got smaller. Service was excellent, clean establishment, and good cocktails. Not sure if I would return, it's just not the same old place.More

Have passed by this restaurant on Girod St. for many years but never heard anything about it. Some friends introduced us and we are thankful. We visited for the second time and it was just as wonderful as the first. Service was excellent. Chef's specials...have been very creative and food has been great both times Reminds me of a restaurant we visited in Georgetown. Has a great lively bar. The restaurant looks small from the outside, but it is much larger than it appears. I would highly recommend that you give it a try. I think you will be pleasantly surprised.More

We have been patrons of Nuvolari's for years. We went last night to celebrate birthdays and were disappointed with the service and the lack of timeliness. We had to wait forever to order our food, receive salads and entrees. We assumed they must have been...understaffed. As always, the food was delicious. Just wish the service was better.More

We ordered the calamari and scallops. They calamari was not evenly seasoned. The scallops were way over cooked. It was sad and disappointing.

We were able to score a reservation for a Friday night. The ambiance is old Italian, which I loved. Our waiter was friendly and attentive without being overbearing. My party shared a few bottles of wine, the calamari appetizer, as well as the shrimp with...eggplant appetizer. Both were delectable!! I had the filet with an au gratin stack and roasted mushrooms. The filet was cooked perfectly and seasoned well. The au gratin stack was a nice surprise and it was also really good. I wish we had saved room for dessert but next time! And there will definitely be a next time.More

Went here on our first date in 1993 and have returned every year since, with occasional visits throughout the year. The food, the staff and the atmosphere are excellent. We will continue this ritual as long as possible.

On Monday night there aren’t many dining options here so Nuvolari’s was our pick for a birthday dinner. Excellent quality: braised quail, veal Marsala, and traditional linguini with meatballs. Comes with tomato basil soup or Caesar salad plus hot bread with olive oil and spices....Surroundings are quiet and tasteful. Our bottle of California Pinot Noir added to the taste delights.More

The food was very good, but I did not feel valued as a customer. I made reservations and mentioned in the reservation that we would be celebrating our anniversary. Nothing was said and no mention was made of the Anniversary the entire time we dined.
