Morton’s is the perfect throwback

Morton’s is the perfect throwback restaurant; it has the look and vibe of the great seafood restaurants of yesteryear in West End, (New Orleans) that were destroyed in Katrina. Food is basic and delicious. Eating there this week we had boiled crawfish, perfectly seasoned and the best soft shell crab I have had in years. The soft shell crabs are lightly fried so the crabmeat is not overpowered by the breading. The crabmeat was delicious. Oh, did I mention pricing? It is a fraction of what you pay at a seafood restaurant in New Orleans proper and is just a 55 minute drive away, across the Causeway.

We were in Mandeville and looking for a good place to eat. The cashier at a local drugstore recommended Morton's so we made the drive to Madisonville and we were not disappointed. Naven, our waiter, did an excellent job. We had grilled oysters that were great, dungeness crabs, and snow crabs and i recommend all three. definitely going back.

Four of us went for Sunday lunch. All plates including fried shrimp and oysters, seafood gumbo and seafood salad was very good. They were out of the soft-shell crab. The service was good, price OK and atmosphere good. I would have preferred a broiled choice with sauces but that was not available.

Shrimp so small they should have been thrown back.

I am a Louisiana native living out of state for 20 years. Consequently when I visit I eat as much shrimp and crawfish as I can. I ordered the shrimp poboy. I was shocked and disappointed when it was put in front of me. My first comment was, “those shrimp are so tiny!” I was told by our waitress that is the type of shrimp that come on the poboy. All other shrimp dishes are much larger. The French bread was fantastic, as I expected. Our waitress, Charlotte, was very good and efficient. I regret not sending the sandwich back. Every time I look at them I think of those poor shrimp that died before their time. (I brought the sandwich home). As a side note, I have ordered shrimp poboys from dive type restaurants and the shrimp were the size a person would expect. I would not expect this from the caliber of restaurant as Morton’s Seafood Restaurant.

Fun Neighborhood Atmosphere on the Tchefuncte River

Madisonville is a pretty little town on the North Shore of Lake Pontchartrain. Morton's Boiled Seafood and Bar is located on the Tchefuncte River right near the bridge on Hwy 22 (Mulberry St) next to the Madisonville Reception Hall. Morton's has a very casual, family friendly atmosphere, with plenty of televisions lining the walls to cheer on the LSU baseball team as we did while eating there. I got the char-grilled hamburger, which came with mayo, tomato, and lettuce with fries. (No onion or cheese.) My boyfriend got a Caesar salad with grilled chicken. It was very basic, decent food, not very noteworthy. We had ice water. The bill was $32.

Wrong choices!

Boiled Shrimp 1/2 price good and spicy. Out of coleslaw 6pm but potato salad substitute great. Had 3 blacken red fish dinners with crayfish etoufee on top. I had about 4 little crawfish on top with no sauce and wife had same with a few mushrooms? Fish was thin and dry,very salty! Onion rings not crispy and batter fell off. Fried crab claws were just a little dry. Will come back for shrimp and maybe try fried seafood.

Birthday celebration.

First off our waiter was outstanding. We were a big group and he handled everything great and we tipped him very good for his service. He was so nice. I ordered the shrimp po boy/gumbo combo. The gumbo was nasty. I did not even eat it. My sister and my daughter both took a taste and both said the same thing as me. The shrimp were extremely salty. My brother in law, daughter and brother said the same thing. The fried crab claws and the fried pickles were delicious. The Leidenheimer Bread was awesome. Not sure if I will go back.

Mediocre Seafood Restaurant

This restaurant is located right next to the water so the view is very good but the food is just average. We were a group of four. The crab and shrimp soup was okay although a little watery. The catfish bite appetizer was very good. One of our diners said that the oyster poboy was okay but some in the middle was a little mealy. The crab cakes had too much filing and not enough crab. The Morton's seafood salad looked very good and was very fresh. The best dish was the broiled catfish covered with shrimp although the side dish of broccoli was cold. Overall, there are better restaurants. If we go back, we will probably stick with the fried food.

Wonderful place on the river with great views and ambiance. This is a down home type of restaurant and reflects the local flavor. The menu definitely reflects the cajun flavor and the food was very tasty. It was very noisy but that comes with the family oriented theme. The service was very friendly, efficient, and accommodating. Certainly a place to visit when in the area.

This is a quaint restaurant with a friendly atmosphere. As you sit outside to eat you can see the water from our table. Today was 1/2 price oysters and martinis. Such a fabulous atmosphere . As for the food !!! Omg!!! Excellent!!! Our waitress is fantastic ! Her name is Amanda, if your ever out this way ask for her :)

I ate at the bar and the service was great. Brittany was an excellent and charming mixologist that also had a great grasp on the food being served and seafood seasons. I'll definitely stop back in on my way through Madisonville.

Bad food ,bad service,and rude staff

Don't go rude and unprofessional staff. Waited to be seated not many people in the restaurant once we were lead to a seat and about to be seated another staff rep ran up to us rudely stating we may not sit there bc someone else had reservations and he then looks around and wanted to have us sit in a corner under the TV in the back.years ago we went and were served rotten crab claws so the restaurant has not improved I recommend going somewhere other than mortons.

Weekend Getaway in Madisonville!

John was our waiter and he was very good and attentive. Salad good and fresh. Appetizer of fried eggplant with marinara was great. Fried oysters and shrimp were excellent. Ex-New Orleanians back for a visit and we’ll return if our schedule allows.
