Always excellent food, when it's busy still great food but it's with the wait.
To the entitled lady below who commented "restaurants should be extra nice durring the Corona virus". You are the people that service industry people hate. You are ridiculous and expect people to worship the ground you walk on because you have them business during the corona virus. You should be happy they are open so your family doesn't have to eat the crap you make all the time.

Excellent! We like to try out places in the top 10 of Trip Advisor whenever we go and this place deservedly has the Number 1 ranking. The fried shrimp po boy was unbelievable - plenty of fried shrimp and the bread couldn’t have been any better. Great service, a quaint setting with outside seating available and just old fashion atmosphere that reminds us of our childhood. But the food, so good that we are talking about going back again today. Don’t miss it!

We did an overnight stop on our way home just to return for the outstanding Po Boys. We have been stopping here whenever we pass Lafayette on I 10 since Houston columnist and food critic Ken Hoffman wrote about the great Po Boys a few years ago. We stopped mid afternoon for a late lunch. My wife had the shrimp Po Boy and I finally tried the meatball Po Boy which I have been eying for years. Both were outstanding....the meatball Po Boy is a 6 napkin sandwich. I took a bite of my wife’s shrimp Po Boy and as always the shrimp was perfectly cooked. The bread makes the sandwich.....it has good flavor. Olde Tyme Grocery is definitely worth the stop....thank you Ken Hoffman.
The people we tell about Olde Tyme Grocery either know about it and love it or once they try it love it. We told my brother and his wife about the Po Boys and they tried them on their pre COVID Southern road trip. After stopping in Lafayette they spent a month staying in the Irish Channel in NOLA trying many Po Boys and they still rate Olde Tyme Grocery the best they have experienced.

During the Coronavirus quarantine we are trying to pick up food for our family from a locally owned establishment at least once a day. Tonight we chose Olde Tyne which happens to be my favorite place to eat in all of Lafayette.
When we arrived we were greeted by a very polite young lady. She took our name and asked how we were paying? My wife said she would be using a gift certificate and would pay for the what went over the gift certificate.
The young man with a beard (I’d say in his 20s) came toward the car and said to my wife who is in her 60s “she didn’t ask if you would be paying for it, she asked how you would be paying for it?”
My wife said it depended on how much it was over the gift card. The young man responded “so that will be cash or card?” My wife said again “it depends how much over the gift certificate it will be?”
The young man insisted she give an answer right then, not knowing what our total was, so she didn’t know if she wanted to use that much cash. At this point I was in the driver’s seat with steam coming out of my ears. I told my wife “just give him a card”.
The young lady came back with our food. It was $27 over the gift card. She apologized for the young man saying he didn’t understand what she was saying.
We have been frequent customers Olde Tyme since it opened eating at least 25 meals a year there. We have never been treated rudely before. At this time when local establishments have their dining rooms closed down they need us to keep them going. They should be extra nice... NOT RUDE!
My first reaction was to say we would not be going back. Instead I am posting my first ever negative review about Olde Tyme. Read my reviews because I have several of them over the years.
The food was excellent as usual. It’s a shame people need to be rude. Saddest thing is that I think the young man who was rude is the owners son.
We will be back. Olde Tyme is the best place to eat in Lafayette. If we had been first timers we would probably have never gone back.

I have never had a bad experience at Old Tyme. I always hit the place whenever we're in town for the best Poor Boy on the planet. Not this time. Ordered 2 six inch Oyster poboys. Was really looking forward to this...sadly, the oysters were tasteless, small, and few in number. More breading and bread than oysters. Disappointed to say the least. And while I should have asked about price before ordering, the two sandwiches, 1 fry (not that great either) and 2 beers was $30. Feel ripped off.
I'll always recommend this place, and I hope this was a one time thing....but this time around, it wasn't good.

The Best PoBoys this side of the Mississippi
These guys have perfected the poboy. From the roast beef all the way to the half and half shrimp and oyster. Their sizes are great and the bread is baked locally and delicious. The restaurant has an old time vibe from how you order to how you pay and then pick up your food. Somewhat like a deli however a Superb deli if I might add. Make sure you know what you want before stepping up to the counter or you will be swept away by another customer eager to place their order.

First off, the parking is TERRIBLE! We got there at noon for lunch. It was busy. We had to park a block away, but that is ok. Everywhere near the place is pay parking! Everybody trying to make a buck off of a successful place! I am not from the city so we are not use to such greed, and personally find it unacceptable. For someone that has never been in the place, it is very confusing. People everywhere and no one knows what is going on. The food was ok, but certainly not deserving of the rave ratings. I had the shrimp po boy. They put a lot of shrimp on the sandwich, but it has little flavor. It had one thin slice of mator and a little lettuce, with mayo and catchup. Nothing special at all. I have had as good or better 1000 miles off the coast. The food is certainly not worth the hassle involved with dinning at this place.

the outside of this place looks like an old grocery shack. there is gravel parking across the street and you can park at the school on the weekends. don't go by outside appearance. you have to go here and have the biggest shrimp po boy you have ever seen for a reasonable price. it is counter service and the place is clean. there is inside dining. the staff is very friendly. they also have the best gumbo I have ever tasted. it consists of rice with shredded bbq pork and sliced smoked sausage. the reuben was also fantastic. we were lucky to get here before the lunch rush and didn't have to wait on a table and was able to find parking.

We stopped here for a couple of poboys. We ordered a shrimp and an oyster poboy. The seafood was fresh and freshly cookee, the bread crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. This was just pure goodness. We went out of our waynto eat there a second time on our long weekend trip. Highlynrecommended and our favorite meal of the entire trip to cajun country.

Visiting the Lafayette area from Texas, I wanted to take my niece and nephew to lunch and they recommended this place - located near ULL - you pass several eateries to find this discreet out of the way grocery. Upon arrival was surprised at the long line since we were early on Saturday but it was packed. Nephew suggested the shrimp poorboy and he was so right. Niece got one also....he chose the pastrami. I can say without a doubt one of the best poorboy sandwiches I've ever had - loaded with shrimp. Very fast service and reasonable prices. Would recommend...

Went for a roast beef poboy. What I got was a dry, bland sandwich. Excessive amount of roast beef, no gravy, no pickles, 1/2 slice of tomato. Couldn’t even eat the French fries because the grease was so old they were awful. Would not recommend this place to my dog.

I have many friends that recommended OTG and it did not disappoint! Rolled in on a Friday night to live music on the patio. I ordered an Old Tyme Special, husband ordered a Half & Half and daughter ordered a shrimp poor boy. It was honestly a race to see who could finish first. There was no sharing and no talking during this meal!! So good!! We will be back.

we have eaten po boys here for years. it’s a tradition in our family at this point, anytime we’re traveling through Lafayette to stop and pick up a po boy. The bread is the key, but they dress their po boys perfectly, there really isn’t anything they’ve missed on. My favorite is the shrimp, my wife raves about the oysters but you can never go wrong with a roast beef or turkey. you can’t find a bad po boy here. always fresh, always consistent, cute little old grocery store feel what not to love.

I love this restaurant. When you enter, you are enthusiastically greeted like you are an old friend. You order at the counter with a patient and friendly employee. You find a seat in the old, but charming building. There is outside seating, but since there are heat warnings currently, you don't want to eat outside! I ordered the fried shrimp po-by with chips. My sister ordered it with fries. First of all, those fries are amazing. It's a HUGE order, enough for 3 or 4 people. The best fries I have ever eaten! The secret to a great po-boy is the bread, and OTG has that covered. The bread is crusty but soft enough that you can bite it without the bread crumbling all over your lap. The shrimp are big and fried to perfection, not greasy. This is my very favorite restaurant in the city. Try to arrive on the early side for lunch as it gets crowded. It's worth the wait, though.

Wow, the Olde Time Grocery Special was massive and two of us could not eat it’s greatness. With gravy on the roast beef to the great bread this sandwich has way too much flavor. The staff was helpful and made us feel at home.
