Had to go see my LSU Tigers play Texas A&M in Death Valley and was told we had to visit Louisiana Lagniappe Restaurant while in Baton Rouge. Lagniappe is a Louisiana French word which means "small gift" and is usually unexpected. The place was packed but not too noisy. We waited about 30 minutes for our table and hung out in the bar area just to make some new friends. By the time we got our table, we had three invites to tailgater parties the next day...really nice people.
Our waiter (DeMarcus) was phenomenal and I hope I spelled his name correctly. When asked to make recommendations (which I do on a regular basis), he wasted no time in giving his opinion. His knowledge of the menu and preparation of each meal was spot on.
Now to the food...I ordered the Tournedos which were char-grilled (to perfection) beef tenderloins with sautéed shrimp, jumbo lump crab and béarnaise sauce on top. Other members of our party had the Louisianne (blackened fish with crab meat) and Barbeque Shrimp and bottom line, everyone was pleased with their plates. The only thing that caught me by surprise was the potato that came with my meal and was basically half a baked potato with cheese melted on top. I am sure they are easy to prepare by really not that exciting.
The atmosphere, food and DeMarcus were the true definition of Lagnaippe.

Excellent seafood and even better service from Frank. Our eggplant Pontchartrain appetizer was late coming out and Frank took it off our bill. We told him that was not necessary but he insisted
Next time in Baton Rouge we will definitely be back.

Late Friday afternoon I suggested to my wife that we have an early dinner at Louisiana Lagniappe, if we could get in. Haven't been there in years so she called and nothing available. We asked if we get there early enough could we grab a spot at the bar and the young lady said yes if we get there early there's a shot but we needed to get there early. We walked in just a little before 5:00 and there were two seats left at the bar...Score. The bar staff was very welcoming, attentive and helpful and they mix up some really good cocktails. We started with the fried eggplant toped with lump crabmeat and a nice sauce, a very good choice. For dinner my wife had the pork chops that were amazing and I had the Oysters Lagniappe that were delicious and ended our dinner with key lime pie. It was the perfect end to the work week and a great start to the weekend. And oh, we both brought home doggy bags, the portions were plentiful. The bonus was that we met and talked to some really nice people dining at the bar as well. We will be back.

My husband & I really enjoy the food, but after we have waited an hour and a half to be seated, a fair amount of the pleasure eating here is gone. On Our last visit on a Friday night, we arrived at 5:45 pm assuming we would beat the crowd- wrong- we put our name on a list and were told it would be an hour and a half wait. We waited in the bar with what seemed liked at least 50 other people. There are a few bar tables and a few bar stools, but mostly folks stand elbow to elbow jocking to get the bartenders attention for a drink. After 30 minutes we were able to sit on two bar stools and ordered dinner to be eaten at the bar. Sure enough, an hour and a half after our arrival, our name was called for a table. We had just finished a very crowded dinner at the bar counter.
We really do enjoy the sensation salad & the the oysters Laginappe(baked oysters topped with crabmeat dressing), but not enough to fight the crowds.

My husband and I went there to celebrate our 42nd anniversary and were so disappointed. I had ordered the Pontchartrain and I should have sent it back. It was very salty and the fish was burned on the bottom. All I could taste was salt and burned crust. My husband had ordered the Louisianne and his was good. I had asked for an extra cup of hollandaise sauce and never got it. Very slow service so I did not want to have another dish prepared. Also we ran out of water and the waitress did not refill the pitcher. If you go to an upscale restaurant you expect them to notice these things. We usually go to Mansur's and are never disappointed but wanted to give Lagnaippe a try. Will stick with Mansur's for sure!

We had an excellent meal with great service. We decided to share an appetiser and chose the boudin balls as we had not yet tried this local speciality. The portion size was generous - enough for two - and they were very tasty. We then both had a fish dish - Louisianne and Pontchartrain respectively. Both were excellent and the portions were enormous. Anthony, our waiter, was very helpful assisting our choices. Highly recommended.

We had heard about this restaurant and decided to give it a try this past weekend. Absolutely outstanding in every way. Although the dining room was a little noisy, it was a really pleasant atmosphere. Our server - unfortunately I forgot his name - was amazing. Helpful, attentive and warm. The food was out of this world. We started out with the boudin balls - delish, and the caesar salad which was great. My husband had fresh fish en papillote which was incredible and I had the filet of fish a la roland which was absolutely scrumptious. Our daughter and her friend each had a filet mignon which they loved as well. We shared a bread pudding for dessert which was amazing too. Will definitely be back. We loved it!

An overdue spoil-myself dinner was made possible and super enjoyable by this place. Friendly staff and absolutely amazing food, you will not be disappointed. The lobster bisque had about a dozen hunks of lobster in it, wine by the bottle was half off, and the tenderloin medallions with crab and shrimp were splendid.

My wife and I went for a meal here because of all the positive reviews. We were celebrating an early anniversary and we both wanted good seafood. The restaurant was very cozy and we were seated when we arrived ( we had reservations ) and the servers were great in giving us the specials for the evening. Our appetizers were the crab cakes and stuffed mushrooms. They were excellent. For our meal I had the black drum with shrimp and crab cooked in parchment paper, my wife had the black drum with crab in lemon butter sauce. I have eaten all over the United States and I have never had such a wonderful meal. I was simply superb. We had the Blueberry Bread pudding for dessert. If you want to have a taste of heaven, order this pudding. It was absolutely fantastic. Needless to say our evening was perfect thanks to this fine establishment.

In the past, we have enjoyed this restaurant over the years. However our recent visit proved very disappointing. Our salad was very soggy and the bread was burnt. However, the fish (drum) was the greatest let-down. The texture was more like chicken as we sawed through for our first bite. It didn't even taste like fish. There were four of us at the table, and we all had the same experience. We mentioned it to the waiter, and he said, "thanks for the feedback." Two of us didn't eat any more of it, and just settled for the very small portion of soggy broccoli on the side of the plate. One of us ate half of it, and had indigestion all night. We, of course, have written this restaurant off our list.

I had a piece of drum with some kind of crawfish sauce which was pretty amazing. I may not be the best judge of fish because I do not eat it much but the dish was delicious. I also shared a couple appetizers of crab claws which everyone enjoyed. I definitely recommend

My wife and I visited on 9/23/22. Lagniappe is where I go to get a high quality seafood experience. The service was excellent. Most of the food was very good, but not as good as what I've previously enjoyed. My BIG disappointment was the Ponchairtrain. The soft shell crab and topping was very good. However, the black drum, which I catch/clean and love, was WAY overcooked. All fish need to be cooked "al dente" to secure the best flavor. The drum on my dish was dry and devoid of flavor. I wanted to send it back, but my wife got upset, so I didn't say anything. I expect more when I go to Lagniappe.

We when to eat there for my son's birthday and I ordered the Louisianne dish .Well it turned out to be a disappointment, the fish crust was over cooked and the worst part was it was suppose to have Jumbo Lump Crab meat on top, but is was small back fin meat with half the taste and not much of it. Very disappointed in it. Also the Caesar salad had way too much dressing on it, not happy. Now I did order the Oysters Lagniappe for an appetizer and they were the usually great tasting oysters that I'm custom to getting. The rest of our party had good meals, so that's why the 4 stars. I'll go back but will not order the fish any more.

Nicely decorated and positive atmosphere. Service was very good! Tuna steak was over cooked and dry. The oyster appetizer was nicely broiled, just a little rich for my taste. Excellent beverage options.
For my money, would go to Eliza or Phil's Oyster Bar.

I don't know how my husband and I had never eaten at this restaurant before as we have dined at various restaurants in Baton Rouge over the years. I did a quick search on Trip Advisor for a seafood restaurant and Louisiana Lagniappe popped up. I read a few of the reviews and quickly called for a reservation. Our experience from start to finish was wonderful. We were taken to our table upon arrival by the friendly host. Water and nice hot bread and butter were served immediately. Our server brought us the menus and proceeded to describe the specials for the day. My husband chose seafood gumbo and fried oysters for his meal. I chose the soup du jour, creamed bell pepper soup, and drum fish with shrimp and crabmeat. Both soups and entrees were delicious. Our server was attentive without disturbing our conversation or meal.
