We stopped here for dinner once we could not get into the restaurant next door and we are glad we did. We sat at the bar for quick seating and ordered some sake. After looking through the menu, I ordered three rolls as that is...what I normally order at a sushi restaurant. Once the rolls came, I was blown away by how large they were. Normally, rolls are smaller so they can use high-quality ingredients. This was not the case as they were all extremely fresh and delicious. I was very surprised about how good it was. We even went to the place next door for sushi and found that Ichiban was better.More

We enjoyed the naruto rolls as well as the Volcano roll (so delicious!). They have an incredible sushi menu and a fantastic variety of rolls in addition to habachi and other cooked items for the non-sushi eaters. We had excellent service and food was delivered...to our table pretty quickly compared to other sushi places we've been to. Great place for lunch or dinner!More

My wife, myself and our 5 year old boy had to wait 2 hours for our food until 9 pm on a Sunday! First 15 minutes no one showed up to take the order. Then a busser came and took our order and served the...drinks. He clearly didn’t clean himself before that and his dress was totally inappropriate. After 1 and half hour when the food was not ready, I checked with several people, finally the manager said they lost our ticket. No one apologized at that point. The manager just said they were short handed. My wife and kid had to use the restroom. That was terrible too. My worst experience in Baton Rouge. Pleas don’t go. Ichiban has always been my favorite place for sushi/hibachi. But... the past few times we’ve been, the experience has been very lacking. Last night, we visited the one on Essen and I was very disappointed. We were seated in an overflow area that is basically...a porch with thick Visqueen for walls. It was very humid. The table and floors were sticky. The ice in our drinks melted fast. Every single plate that was brought out was chipped or broken. The sushi was good, but my favorite LSU roll had a funny taste to the oysters. They don’t seem to be doing hibachi so all the chairs are pushed to one side of the room in that area. It is dark and dank. The hallway to the restrooms is so dark, you can barely tell which door is for which bathroom. I’ve never visited the Japanese place next door but will try it next time. And I guess if I really want sushi from Ichiban, I’ll order it to go. 🤷🏻‍♀️More

So disappointed, The rice was gummy and very bland. My steak was not good, had a lot of fat. The salad was very watery. Will not go again.

Food here is always great. The atmosphere is whatever you're up for, quiet and intimate (table dining) or fun and entertaining (hibachi). Servers are knowledgeable, attentive and friendly. I would highly recommend.

In my continuous effort to spend money in my community, I decided to try Ichiban in Gonzales for my birthday. Worst Hibachi Ever. Rice was not seasoned at all and chicken was super bland. We had 3 different servers which meant we got to have...2 salads and 2 soups. We had to place our order 3 times and one couple had to wait 20 minutes just to finally get their cocktails. This was just not a good hibachi experience and my birthday dinner was very disappointing!!!More

My family and I went there to celebrate our sons Doctoral Graduation from LSU. The ambiance was great. The place reminds us of Benihana but better. The LSU roll was deep fried and delicious. I had never eaten sushi but this was delicious and tasty....The clear soup was remarkable. We enjoyed the pineapple sake and the sake bomb. The waitress was knowledgeable and courteous. The service was great. The cook at the table was entertaining and a great cook. We will definitely return here to dine.More

The menu was varied with so many specialty rolls, as well as a full menu of other dishes. The ginger salad was fresh and mouth-watering, and we tried three specialty rolls: Rock ‘n Eel (our favorite) Mascone (sweeter, would make a great dessert with coffee)...& Crunchy Roll. We also had the green tea with Yazu Honey. Mmmmmm.More

We dine a lot and we appreciate service and good food, but the service in this restaurant was the worst we have ever experienced. The habachi chef became irate when I asked if he could cook a small amount of the fried rice to the side...with no soy sauce. Rudely he told me I should have told the server and made a big deal about it going back and forth to the kitchen. As he was finally returning he stated very rudely that when you go to a Chinese restaurant everything has soy sauce. I was astonished to be treated this way. First it was a Japanese restaurant not Chinese and second my husband who is Chinese and I routinely eat at various Asian restaurants and I never have a problem getting food without soy sauce. IF YOU HAVE ANY ALLERGIES DO NOT!!! DO NOT EAT HERE. THEY DO NOT CARE!!!More

My husband and I had heard fabulous things. Went for our Anniversary. Restaurant is loud and tables have zero elbow room. The spring roll appetizer nothing exceptional. Ordered Lobster, Steak, Scallops and Shrimp. Lobster tough and frozen shrimp is yucky for price. Sauces had zero...flavor. Presentation was Gorgeous but the $150 tab for so so meal not acceptable. Wont return.More
