Dark and dirty inside but food was great!! Stick to take-out.

I have gotten take-out from Yamato before but never eaten inside. May go back to take-out. The inside was dark, the tables were sticky. When we asked the staff if they could clean the table, they said they would try, but the tables are old and they were still sticky. Windows were dirty as well. Almost left, but their food was always good, so we stayed. Ordered the poke bowl with salmon and shrimp. It was very good and fresh. Would have given an higher rating if the inside were cleaner.

Good food

Tried the Hibachi steak and shrimp, which comes with a lot of food. Miso soup was really good, didn’t care for the sushi. The steak and shrimp were excellent. Service was mostly good for a slow weeknight.

Once is enough

First time eating here. Went on a Sunday afternoon so the lunch menu wasn't an option for me. I think the prices are a bit high but they do give you a bunch of food. My wife and I split a meal. The meat tasted fine but I didn't care for the carrots and rice. The miso soup tasted nasty to me and the kids but my wife liked it. The salad is a joke. I ordered sushi also and that it tasted good but $5 for two pieces is a bit much. The floor needed to be swept because there was old food on it. The bathroom conditions were not impressive. The waitress was friendly enough. The fried dumplings were okay to me, the wife and kids liked them.

Horrible experience

Tonight me and my sister dined in at this restaurant and the experience we had was not great the waitress took our order and only rang up half our order, we waited for refills on our drinks forever and when she came and got our drinks she never brought them back when me and my sister look over she is playing with another staffs hair in the dining room then goes and gets our salads without washing her hands i ask for to go plates and tell her we are leaving I walk up to the front and ask for a manager i express to the manager my concerns and the staff HEATHER interrupts me and tells me not to be rude to her servers and walks away so I stated I wasn’t being rude to the servers I was stating my complaints I told the manager that if she needed to come and talk to me then that’s fine but overall it was very unprofessional and overall rude

Was recommended and when I walked in was disappointed with Interior. Ordered and was amazed with our dinner. Had teriyaki chicken and shrimp. Rice, miso soup and fried vegetables couldn’t have been better. Also add a shrimp tempura roll, it was outstanding!! Will definitely go back.

sushi is really good. love the rainbow roll, although wish they update their rolls, I miss the the fry skin rolls.

It's a nice place to eat, play some Japanese music in the back ground would be nice. Expand menu to more Japanese foods.

Sushi not recommended - miso soup awesome

Pieces were cut very thin and were warmer than room temperature. Rice is supposed to be sticky; not a lump of soured mush. Staff complained about everything and everyone the whole time of my visit near the hostess station. They don't clear away dirty dishes even when they bring the check. Told me the soy sauce was low sodium in both containers when I asked for the empty green top low sodium container to be filled or replaced with a filled one. I'm not sure if that is true or not. The soy sauce in the regular container was thicker than normal and tasted odd. Very dark and didn't lighten up when I added the wasabi to it. Miso soup was awesome; however, the bowl was the smallest I've ever seen in my life. It's a shame; because, that was the best part of the meal. The ginger dressing for the salad was thick and literally spread onto the top. Hey, I love turmeric as much as the next person but that is overkill and turned your ginger dressing into a paste.

Going downhill fast...

What use to be our favorite Friday night date, is today a far cry from what it use to be. We both agreed, it would be our last visit. 1. Filthy. Dead flies piled up in the Window, next to our table. Sticky tables and menus. The restaurant Smelled like old mop water. The front door is in desperate need of help. Windows looked as if they hadn't been cleaned in weeks. 2. Staff looked to have a "hang out table" Waitresses purses, cell phones, outside food bags. The wait staff hung out texting on their phones, eating bites of food here and there. And rolling silverware....on the same table. 3. Food didn't seem fresh. Deep fried items tasted like old oil. Sushi rice was dried out around the edges. Sushi avocado was Brown. Crab smelled extra fishy. We were really disappointed after ordering. I hate that this place has changed so much. We used to love the food and the vibe.

My only complaint is they don't make pork fried rice. Odd thing is the one in Corbin is terrible. The one here is great.

Unexpected Quality

This is an unassuming little place in a strip of shops that includes a Goodwill and a lawn and Garden store. No Hibachi grill tables, but did have a tiny sushi bar. Hubby had the grilled snapper with veggies and I had strip steak with veggies. Everything prepared well. Large helpings. My steak was so tender and cooked exactly to order. Salad with traditional Japanese ginger dressing was so fresh and the dressing was some of the best I've had. Miso soup was just the right temperature and very tasty. Our server was very knowledgeable and kind. I've eaten at quite a few Japanese style restaurants other places and I think Somerset is lucky to have this kind of quality.

We went with a party of 6 or so and really enjoyed the food. We had hibachi chicken and noodles as well. They were sweet, but the chicken and noodles mixed with the rice was great! I would recommend this place for sure.

Our favorite restaurant!

My wife and I live in Somerset and have been going there since it opened. There have been changes in staffing and management, but the food has stayed consistent. Great portions and taste. Of course, with a lot of staff changes, service is unpredictable, but we don't let that slow us down. The most recent staff has been fantastic!

Not pleasant

We went there for our first time after getting a recommendation from a friend. We were seated very fast being there were only two other groups there for lunch on a Saturday. The waitress could not answer any of our questions about the items on the menu, she said it was her first day. We placed our orders and she immediately returned to inform me that I would need to change my order, I asked for the lunch #11 chicken, steak and shrimp. I was told that I could only have 2 of the meats but not all 3 as listed on the menu. When the food arrived it all had the same flavor, whether it was chicken, shrimp, rice or noodles which was a very sweet taste. The waitress immediately brought our ticket I guess so she wouldn't have to comeback to check on us. The prices were higher that listed on the menu and when I questioned it I was told they hadn't updated the menu to show a price increase. I would not recommend this to someone looking for authentic Japanese food. The hibachi grill is located back in the kitchen, not in the dining area as it states.
