About
Crank & Boom Craft Ice Cream started in the back of our family restaurant, Thai Orchid Cafe, with one flavor: Coconut. After making ice cream for about 6 months as a simple dessert option, we noticed some customers were coming in to just buy the ice cream….and they didn’t order any Thai food. From there, we began serving our super premium ice cream at festivals, weddings, parties and schools. The company grew organically from community support and we opened Crank & Boom Ice Cream Lounge in June 2015 in the Lexington Distillery District. Our second location at the Barn at the Summit at Fritz Farm opened in September 2017. Crank & Boom is now sold with 40+ retail partners, like Kroger and Whole Foods and has supported hundreds of local non-profit and community organizations.

The ice cream was absolutely delicious and unlike anywhere else. I bought some bourbon flavored marshmallows that I was able to take home and make last! I also bought a lovely t-shirt because I just loved the ambience and ice cream so much. Conveniently located next to several other breweries so you can bring your ice cream and drink too :)

Crank and Boom has great small batch ice cream in really creative flavors and the staff is wonderful, friendly, and knowledgeable. Visiting is always fun. I know we are all trying to cut back on sugar, but unless you live in Lexington and can visit often, skip a few meals and order the Sampler Flight of Four. If it is available make sure on of your four is the bourbon and honey ice cream. You won't be sorry.

I loved this place! They serve flights of ice cream so you get to sample several of their unique flavors. I had strawberry balsamic sorbet, coffee stout, bourbon honey and blackberry buttermilk. All were excellent but the strawberry balsamic sorbet was the standout. Will definitely return on my next trip to Lexington

This place was on my must try list for Lex and it DID NOT DISAPPOINT!
First off, the employees are enthusiastic. I'm not even sure that fully encompasses the level of energy and knowledge these people have about their ice cream its both overwhelming and weirdly contagious at the same time.
Second, they are EXCITED to let you sample as many things as you want. I mean it. I think we had 5+ samples without even asking. Just talking about the flavors they wanted us to try everything.
Thirdly, this is officially my top all time favorite ice cream I've ever had. And I've had a lot. I had a scoop of the Bourbon & Honey and a scoop of the Kentucky Blackberry & Buttermilk. They both had bold delicious complex flavors that didn't loose their punch after eating half the serving. My S.O. has the Vanilla bean, which apparently has legit Madagascar Vanilla in it, with a generous drizzle of hot fudge. He a big vanilla guy and he was also very happy with his choice
As a final note...its not the easiest to find with iPhone Maps. Look up the street view before you go to avoid the confusion.... the name is written on the building but depending on which way you're coming from (for us from downtown Lex) you don't see it until its too late to turn.

The sundaes were excellent and portion size was just right for us. The staff was friendly and quick with service. I thought the price was spot on too. We paid $7.50 for sundaes.
When DQ blizzards and frozen coffees are basically the same price, Crank and Boom hit it out of the park.

Crank and Boom offers a very unique ice cream experience! After going the first time, we went back the very next day! We tried Coffee Stout, Blueberry-Lime cheesecake, and of course, the famous Bourbon & Honey! All three were delicious!!! We didn’t do it, but it’s probably more economical to purchase the 4-flavor sampler flight for $12.50 vs the single scoop price at 4.50 . You can even get a “spiked scoop” for $8.00 more. If we could have fit it into our schedule, we would have gone again & tried the Coffee in Donuts flavor!

Flavors you won't find anywhere else. Crank and Boom on Manchester is part of Distillery Square. A fun place to send a day. THe ice cream and treats were so unique it made you want to try them all.

Great ice cream. My husband had the bourbon ball sundae and he loved it. I had the salted caramel bourbon barrel and it was awesome. We did the curbside pickup at the Clays Mill Rd location. It was wonderful, you order on line, pay for it, and then when you go to the location, you pull into the curbside pickup spot and call the phone number on the sign. They make your order and bring it to your car. It was great! Thank you for a great treat!

This place is awesome! You can get a flight of ice cream to try all of the amazing and very unique flavors that I've never had anywhere else. The building is also cool. I would stop here when visiting my daughter in Lexington, she recently moved, but I'm still going to make a trip here when I'm in the area.

Ice cream was delicious, and I loved the unique flavors and the fact that they had a flight option that let me try 4 flavors. Only complaint (and this is only if you're a super ice cream snob like my husband) is that it was slightly icy. But regular ice cream eaters won't notice. :)

I only wanted a cone of bourbon, but the "gentleman" said that because it was Sunday I should receive the "Sunday" option. I accepted it, it was not what I wanted, but I accepted it. Then I told him that I don't want topping peanuts and he continued adding them without listening to what he was saying. After having placed him two or three times he tells me, it's a "Sunday" isn't that what you want? I'm very confused!. I said no enough times to give him time to not put anything on it. So I left the place with an ice cream that I couldn't even eat, very sad because it made me feel stupid. I understand that it has peanuts on top but I didn't want it, I'm paying for it, I could be able to receive what I want, what if I'm allergic to stupid peanuts?

Delicious birthday ice cream wife got me cookie dough, she got salted carmel and mother in law got strawberry. Love that the cookie dough and marshmallows are made in house. I also love strawberries are local premium ingredients= delicious ice cream.

So delicious!!! This place was recommended to my son and I as we were visiting University of Kentucky and it is certainly one of the reasons we will go back! Super friendly staff and over the top delicious homemade ice cream that can’t be beat. We chose the gooey butter cake and the chocolate banana in homemade waffle cones. Yum!!!

This is a locally-owned business with the BEST ice cream in Lexington. You have to try the bourbon ball ice cream. Their small batch ice creams are fantastic -- especially Martine's Pistachio Cake Ice Cream. Caution: The ice cream will spoil you for anything else.

Our family stopped by Crank & Boom after a distillery tour & we are so glad we did! They offered unique flavors made on site. I had the honey bourbon (because Kentucky!) and it was fabulous. I also bought a bag of homemade Bourbon marshmallows to take home. Crank & Boom isn't cheap, but it is worth the extra $.
