The Athenian Grill was a pleasant surprise! It appears small, but there is seating on 2 levels, and outside. The interior was very clean and comfortable, with Greek decor. The food was delicious; the server was very friendly and took time to answer questions about...the different food choices. This location is close to UK campus, well within walking distance. Parking is a bit of an issue, but not enough of one to miss out on this experience!More

The food is wonderful. I love it. The restaurant itself is quite small. Parking is very difficult. I highly recommend it though.

If you like Greek food, or if you’ve never tried it, go anyway. This place is serving up some crazy good gyros (had the Athenian lamb) and some super solid falafel. Wow. Also, staff is quick and friendly.

I just love the selection of Greek foods and the service was great. This place has food that would sell in Athens.

I love the Gyro bowl. I never used to order a Gyro because I don’t like all the bread. This is perfect . I also love their meatballs. Sides of green beans or Greek salad are always good. I usually get extra tziki sauce; it’s...delicious!More

This place is tucked away in an alley but, worth the trouble to find. Everyone was very friendly. The food was good and very affordable. Dh got an regular gyro withe fries. I got the gyro bowl with fries and a pita. My brother and...sister-in law ordered salads as well as greek fries. The fries were a little disappointing as they didn't have much cheese on them.More

My reviews tend to highlight good places that deserve notice (especially those with real vegetarian meals) and just ignore the places that were disappointing. Mediterranean restaurants are reliable vegetarian sources for travelers in regions not known for their vegetarian meals. Now I have to say..."usually reliable" sources. I tried to avoid writing a negative review, mostly wanted to try to forget we ever stopped here last September. But based on all the favorable views it's only fair to warn others that consistency may be a problem here. We ordered three items and all three were inedible. Well, the lemon potatoes were ok if you drained off the crappy lemon sauce (therefore, just a potato. But hey any port in a storm). The stuffed grape leaves HAD to have been frozen and thawed several times - the filling had the look and consistency of Play-doh, but considerably less appetizing. I'm trying really hard to not remember what else we ordered, other than we couldn't eat it. And we've had a good (edible) meal in a "Greek" restaurant in Puerto Rico, where they didn't know what spanakopita was, but had 8 different types of mofongo. Oh, in fact i think it was the spanakopita we ordered at the Athenian Grill, and threw away. NEVER have done that at ANY restaurant. Maybe we should have ordered Mofongo? Setting - You order at the counter, so service was as expected. Ladies were pleasant enough, although coming from New Jersey EVERYBODY seems pleasant, even if you're getting yelled at (we weren't, just saying). Outside seating option is always nice, but basically you're in a parking lot with nothing special (cars?). Garbage cans were overflowing, so nowhere to throw away the paper products and most of our 'food'.More

First time visit on the referral of a friend. Tried the Chicken Gyro with a side of lemon potatoes, both very good. Parking and seating are limited but the patrons who followed us (we arrived early for lunch) indicated the popularity of this little gem....Definitely coming back.More
