Carson's was suggested to us by the owner of Relic Lexington when we inquired about local lunch options. He threw out a few choices and then said, "but if you go back downtown, Carson's." Go. Back. Downtown. Every. Single. Time. The parking was difficult to...access, but be patient and trust that it's worth it. The atmosphere was purely Kentucky, hitting upon the most key aspects: classy, but casual service dress, confident, yet polite attitude, rustic thoroughbred and bourbon decor, friendly vibe, and authentic taste. You must. You're welcome.More

Saw the sign for Brunch out front and it was an excellent decision to stop. Without reservations they were able to seat us within 3 minutes. Our server Smiley was welcoming, attentive and quickly got a physical menu as we appeared to struggle with the..."smart phone." Lol. Food quality check, portion size check, time to get food out check, even restroom was extremely clean and the toilet paper was like a 4-ply (do they even make 4 ply tp?). I will give this place 4 3/4 out of 5. What I will say is that the parking lot needs attention with the large holes we had to navigate around and it needed some physical cleaning.More

Fun and lively atmosphere, good beverage menu. Large food menu choices. The portions are huge....way too much for one normal person to eat. Good service

My husband and I, our teenage daughter, my mom and dad decided to eat here while traveling through. WE ARE SO GLAD WE DID! We asked our server Mathew what his favorites were and we took his suggestions to get the ribs, jam bacon Swiss...burger and the BBQ pork belly Mac N cheese! Oh my word... everything was delicious! The ribs were the best we'd ever eaten! We talked about how we needed to stop there again on our way back! The restaurant was beautiful and had such character. Loved how the wait staff dressed-so charming! Mathew was an excellent server and a great people person!More

Carson's was our first meal in town. I booked it knowing a lot of places are closed on Mondays and didn't want to have to fret over where to eat while hungry. It's a sizeable place with very high ceilings. The decor is fancy rustic...industrial if that makes any sense. Chandeliers on the ceiling, large garage door windows opening up to the sizeable patio, and a very woody feel throughout. Our table wasn't quite ready when we arrived, so we started at the bar. My husband got the black Manhattan, he's a bit of a Manhattan snob and thought this one was fantastic. I wasn't having alcohol and the bartender whipped me up a passion fruit virgin cocktail that was pretty and tasty. We sat on the patio area for dinner. We started with the brie appetizer, which was amazing, but probably not the right choice for all of the additional food headed our way. The parmesan crusted bread served with it was warm, crunchy and tasty. For my main, I got the beer cheese burger subbing the meat for their veggie patty. For my side I chose the Gouda mac and cheese. It was really good, but I only could get through a little more than half the burger and a few bites of the macaroni (the rest will make a nice lunch). Husband got the filet and scallops which came with a salad and side. He was very happy with his meal, but ended up taking home his side too. He's picky about veggies and they had lots of alternatives to the asparagus that usually comes with the dish. If it wasn't obvious already, we were already too full to consider dessert.More

We traveled to Lexington to celebrate our daughters 22nd birthday. After checking the menu we chose Carson’s. We were not disappointed. Scott provide excellent service and made perfect suggestions on the food. The music, the vibe and the history make this place a must do....This was one of the best meals we’ve had in Lexington.More

Carson’s is a steadily reliably good place for a nice meal in Lexington. You will not leave unsatisfied. The menu offers a range of entrees and the wine list is top notch. We’ll worth the visit lunch or dinner.

We almost didn’t go to Carson’s. I was concerned about the walk (which is only 10 mins walk from downtown) and the fact they didn’t have any reservations. My husband insisted and I’m so glad he did. We were seated at the bar immediately, where...we had a great view of their amazing drinks selection. I was a little bourboned out so I had two cocktails from the “Prohibition” section of the menu, both of which were great. However, I still coveted my husband’s bourbon cocktail, or more specifically the piece of cola-soaked bacon that came with it. The food was excellent and the healthiest I had had since arriving in Kentucky. My system didn’t know how to react to the Hawaiian tofu. My husband went more traditional with fried chicken and shrimp on grits. One taste of the grits made me regret my healthier choice!More

Carson's grilled salmon Oscar style was one of the best dishes I have ever had. The perfectly charred salmon sat atop garlic mashed potatoes flavored with Béarnaise sauce and truffle buttered crab. On the side was asparagus -- the king of vegetables. Arriving without reservations...around 7:30 on a Monday night, we were surprised to learn that there was a 90-minute wait for a table -- though after eating there, I now understand why. We were told that we could order off the full menu at the bar. There weren't two seats next to each other, so we started on a couple of stools at a rail along the back wall as we perused the menu, then gave our order to one of the three super-friendly bartenders. (We would have the pleasure of interacting with all three over the course of our stay.) When a couple of adjacent chairs opened up at the far end of the bar, one of the bartenders helpfully called us over to grab them. I had a very pleasing whiskey sour while we waited. And then came the culinary gems. My colleague seemed to enjoy his sweet and spicy rib entre, tossed in a generous quantity of sriracha bourbon barbeque sauce, as much as I enjoyed my salmon Oscar style. The next time I am anywhere near Lexington, Kentucky, I will return to Carson's. But next time, I'll make a reservation first.More

My wife and I ate at Carson’s today and it was great. They were booked solid with reservations by Noon for the rest of the entire day but invited us to come in and try for a seat at the bar which we did at...5:00 PM. I had the creole chicken shrimp and grits and my wife had a ham and cheese sandwich. Both items were outstanding. Make this a must place for a meal if you have the chance.More

Agree with the other reviewers. No dress code, but the man next to me had a sport coat on, while we were wearing shorts and a collared shirt, skirt and a nicer tank top. I think you’ll see everything in there, but more... More
