I went to the Bear on my last night in Hessett before coming back home. My sister in law and I had the wild mushroom risotto it was gorgeous. It was well worth the wait as the pub was packed, the landlady was very busy but still found time to talk to us and made us feel very welcome. The... More

Recently this pub has been taken over by Garry and Hannah who also run The Old Cannon Brewery pub in Bury St. Edmunds and they definitely got their priorities right; the food is absolutely fantastic!!! We went for a celebratory meal and ended up having 3 courses. It was fresh, deliciously tasting, wonderfully presented and good portion size. Highly recommend... More

My husband and I visited The Bear tonight and I just had to review as soon as I got home. I cannot recommend this restaurant enough. Beautifully presented food, created with such an eye for taste and texture. We had the beetroot, fig and goats cheese salad to start; mouthwatering! Trout and Thai red curry for mains were gorgeous. We've... More

New management with very high prices for extremely average food. Home made pie was good but £14 in a Suffolk village pub? Pasta was overcooked and poor. Many better pub options locally so this establishment needs to overall itself quickly.

I came here with my family Saturday evening. The staff were friendly and attentive at all times. The food was excellent and delicious - Risotto, soup and beetroot with goats cheese starters followed by lamb pie, Thai curry, ribeye and lamb burger all cooked to perfection. Nice friendly atmosphere. My parents met up with some friends from their younger days... More

Thought we would give the Bear a try as it had changed hands recently. Very impressed with both the very friendly service and good quality food which was very well presented. A great addition of recommended places to eat locally.

Been 3 times now. 1st time was leading up to Christmas and my wife and had I had a fantastic meal. The 2nd time was not as good, and people were left waiting for a very long time for their meals. But we decided to give it another go and this time take some other family for their 1st try.... More

Was highly recommended by Denton, and lived up to expectations. Enjoyed a lovely pint of Gunners Daughter beer, with the best fish and chips I have ever had, complete with chunky (twice cooked ?) chips and homemade tartare sauce. My partner enjoyed hers too but struggled to clear the plate - smaller portions of some meals are readily available, which... More

Good welcome and service. Pleasant enough in the garden. Ham and melon salad very tasty. Certainly worth a revisit.
