We have lived in this area for just over 15 years and have never bothered with 'The Bear'. However we found out that it was under new management and could see that there was some major refurbishment going on so we thought we'd try it. The staff were very helpful and friendly. The food isn't cheap but it's not extortionate... More

The food was tasty but a bit pricey. £15 for sausages and pies is quite keen. The renovations are on going to the outside front of the property, and the inside still feels like it needs dressing and lacked a bit of atmosphere. The staff were friendly enough, but to charge main courses £15 upwards something is not still missing.

My partner and I have recently moved to the area and happened to drive past The Bear at Beyton one Sunday and decided to try it for lunch. I love to eat Sunday lunch out but am usually disappointed by the quality, especially of restaurant roast potatoes......but was very pleasantly surprised by the meal we had at The Bear, the... More

Not recommended for food. Expensive for what is served. A vegetable wellington had burnt pastry and the accompanying vegetables were obviously reheated from the day before; colcannon accompanying the tasty sausages was notcolcannon, just potato with some kale mixed in. Both dishes twice the price of similar pub food in other places but definitely not "restaurant" quaity. Service friendly and... More

Watch out the fish and ships is now £7.00 for small and £10.00 for large. So guess what I ordered the small thinking it was the same as the fish and chips that I always have had at £6.95 . But no the smallest piece of fish going . Won't be caught again, scouse the pun. Only thing that saved... More

The Bear is a companion pub to the Cannon Brewery in Bury St Edmunds. I visited with friends for dinner on the evening of 13th December. The pub was not busy. Three ales on draught, Cannon Best Bitter, Gunners Daughter and an Adnams bitter, all were enjoyable to drink. The food was very nice, modern and sensible size portions. Service... More

We were taken here last Sunday by my younger son. It is his local so he was welcomed. The pub has recently changed owners and I gather is due for a makeover. At present it is basic but lovely staff and perfectly adequate. we ate Roast Beef with roast potatoes and lots of veg, Roast Pork again with roast potatoes... More

Went for dinner for a second time after it had changed management - that was a mistake - disappointed first time and even more disappointed second time . We will not return !! They need to do A LOT LOT MORE with service food and decor.

What can I say?? Appalling treatment and terrible food! When we booked the table the "restaurant" (and I say that loosely) failed to mention that they were "in-between menus" and therefore half of the menu was not available to order. We were left with a list of what they had left and how many :/ Really??? Yep!! Also we were... More

We arrived to be seated and drinks ordered. Then we were told the majority of the menu was unavailable due to autumn/winter menu change and that their oven had failed. The food arrived, which was around £15 each for the main. This was simply laughable. Chicken in Cup a soup !! I had driven from North Wales for my dad's... More
