Happened by this beautiful old tavern which bills itself as THE FIRST BOURBON BAR. This place has charm, history, great service and AMAZING food and drink. EVERYTHING (from aperitifs to desserts) is served with gracious hospitality by a staff that is erudite about the food and local culture. The gift shop is well stocked and the whole town is welcoming.

We knew nothing about this place but stopped in to get out of the rain on a Saturday afternoon. We got a brief primer on the building's history along with details of some bourbon cocktails. The food was good but the hospitality was the best part. The waiter, Paul took his time to inform us so we could order well... More

They have been feeding people since I believe 1779. The burgoo was absolutely one of the best soup/stews I have ever tasted. Our son had the hot brown and it was the best we had on the trip. A lot of Jesse James history here and added to a great experience.

This review is consistent with the other reviews that have been written, so not much need to spend a lot of time getting into the details. Average, mediocre food that is better than a fast-food joint, but it is what it is. A little more effort would make it a lot better. However, the prices are about right, so you... More

Sitting in an a historic building was awe inspiring experience. It amazes me and I feel privileged to be able to do so. The food on the other hand in my opinion was terrible. I had bourbon BBQ meatloaf with mash potatoes with gravy. A side of green beans. Plus a bowl of bread. The sauce for the meatloaf was... More

If Talbott Tavern could speak oh the stories it could tell. This historic tavern was opened in 1779 and has been operating ever since. the original tavern has expanded over all these years, but the original tavern room is still there pretty much exactly the way it was when George Washington was president. Ask to be seated in the original... More

Not much to add, really, to the other reviews. This is a place about history and ambience. On that level, it delivers. The food is not bad. But it is standard, average fare. And it's not terribly expensive. Certainly beats eating at some chain. But do expect only middle-of-the-road food.

Came through the area going home after northern KY. Restaurant is very trendy yet old and historical. We had coffee and dessert--- make sure you get the bread pudding, amazing!
