Stephen Foster remains one of the few restaurants we regularly patronize. It's basic country cooking, with a few dishes we especially love like the fried chicken, fried/steamed porkchops, and breaded tomatoes. Family friendly.

Unless you know it's there, you will miss it. Buffet style, food was plentiful, very good, and fresh. If you walk away hungry, it will be your own fault. Would highly recommend it.

Horrible, do not waste your money. This place was nearly $19 per person and the buffet looked so bad I wanted to leave immediately. However, I didn't feel like the hassle of trying to get my money back, so I sucked it up and tried...it. We had to ask to have things refilled such as the lettuce, plates, silverware, and other items we kept going back to see if it had been refilled. The food was a mystery as there were no menu and/or labels and the food looked so bad, I could not tell what it actually was. I tried the fried fish, and it was edible, but I have no idea what kind it was. If you are trying to eat healthy this is definitely not the place to go. Anything that looked and tasted decent was deep fried. I ended up eating iceberg lettuce with ranch dressing, a piece of fish, a chicken leg (good-freshly put out as we were getting ready to leave), green beans (not good-took one bite), mac & cheese (good), fried shrimp (not good-ate only 1 piece), and pecan pie (excellent). I got a stomachache after eating here, and so did everyone else who went in my family. When we were told a table was ready, we were shown where to sit. Not knowing that everything was self-serve we waited for a server for several minutes to take the drink order. We finally gave up and went to the buffet to find out the drinks were there. This was a horrible food experience, and we will never go back. I usually give a place a couple of tries before saying that, but not this place. We went at 6:30 on Friday night, when there is no excuse for empty pans and overcooked food. Even my 10 year old son was deeply disappointed, and he usually does not care about food quality. As long as there is something he can eat he is happy. This was not the case at this restaurant. Employees clothing was dirty, and one had holes in the shorts. Finally, as I was leaving, I went to the bathroom to find out there was no hand soap to wash my hands. Thankfully I still keep sanitizer in my vehicle. The health department needs to keep an eye on this place. This was really sad, because I was excited to try this restaurant.More

The last few visits have not been very good. Veggies are over cooked and some dishes burnt around the edges and bottom. The salmon patties were burnt and hard. The price keeps going up and the quality down. Won't be back anytime soon. Two people...cost $28 seniors.More

Saw a great review on YouTube and decided to try its out. By far the best buffet we have eaten at. Everything was fresh and tasted homemade. Will definitely drive an hour to eat here again.

This is a buffet place in an old building in historic bardstown. Came highly Recommended. Not super large. Good crowd. Pay at register. Thought was a little pricey. Had many breakfast items like biscuits and gravy, French toast sticks, pancakes, eggs and also lunch items...like chicken, fish, green beans, Mac cheese, 2 soups and salad. Lettuce was cheap type (not romaine) and looked slightly wilted. Potato cubes and pork sausage and chicken and biscuits really good. Offer pies, cookies and soft serve for ice cream. Soft drinks, juice, coffee, milk included. Everything rapidly refilled and clean, just no foods were outstanding or to die for.More

If you are looking for a home cooked meal, this is your Bardstown place with a buffet. Wide variety of choices on meat, vegetables, salad, deserts. All very tasty. I couldn't resist the fried chicken. I had my fill, and then they had fresh berry...cobbler. Oh my, it finished off the meal. The locals know this place and were there in full attendance.More

We stayed at the hotel next door. The restaurant was recommended by a local winery. The food was good. The food is served buffet style. Nice variety to chose from. It cost $28 for 2. Adults with drink. We did eat here both mornings of...our trip as we thought it was priced right for the amount of food you could eat.More

I was expecting one thing from this restaurant and got something totally different! I was extremely excited to try this restaurant out. Boy was we disappointed. The food seemed like it came from a Banquet Meal from Kroger’s and put on a plate! It was...absolutely disgusting! And to top it off I ordered a meat and they ran out of that and never gave me anything in its place so all I ate was sides. But that’s okay. That’s all I needs to eat since it was so bad. My husband’s was worse. His Steaks was definitely from a Banquet meal! So let me warn anyone who is thinking about going there! Don’t waste your time or your money! Go to a restaurant that values their customers! They do not on many levels!!!! If I could give them 0 stars I would!More

This small restaurant was full, so we were excited about eating there. The desserts were really tasty and that keep my rating 3 out of 5. The salad portion was not anything to write home about. I enjoyed the white bean soup. The salisbury steak...tasted like Stouffers frozen. The veggies had little taste. There was nothing to make it stand apart from a Golden Corral. The dessert should have had derby pie or something to say, "This is Kentucky". But they didn't. Bardstown is the bourbon capital of the world but they did not take advantage of that either. Stephen Foster? Anything named after or especially made to connect this American musician to the restaurant named after him? No. These are missed opportunities to set yourself apart from the rest.More

So as a kid I loved this place. Food was always seasoned and good. Today I ordered door dash and ordered salmon croquettes, mashed potatoes and corn. The salmon was at best ok. The potatoes tasted like instant potatoes and the corn well just corn.....No salt, no pepper no taste just prison food.. So glad I had credits on my account, because if I had to $15 plus for this I'd be pissed off.More

Nothing fancy. But straight up home cooking, and they usually do a great job of it. Right about $10 a head, including drink and desserts. Even during covid, they figured out a way to safely run the buffet. Today, they had meatloaf, great fried fish,...bbq chicken, among so many other offerings. Hot peach cobbler. It is almost a guilty pleasure. But I keep returning.More

Stephen Foster Restaurant is open 7 days a week, 7 AM to 8 PM. Their hours may change a little bit during peak vs. off tourist seasons so you'd be best to check directly with the restaurant's web site. Enjoy
