We followed the yellow brick in Wamego KS. and the led us to this charming bakery with a great owner. The cookies and breads were yummy and the owner threw in a free breakfast sandwich that was made of yeast roll which encapsulated sausage and cheese. We loved it! This should be a necessary stop in Wamego!

Passing this way on a cross-country trip. We arrived just before closing on a Sunday (1:45, they close at 2:00) and asked if we could be served the Sunday special. They were very accommodating, told us not to rush. The food was DELICIOUS- moist pork loin, yummy carrots and a potato casserole. My husband joked that we should stay in town for a week so we could try the different specials everyday! Friendly stop before following the yellow brick road over to the Oz Museum.

We had a late breakfast: tasty from scratch biscuits and gravy, perfectly done over easy eggs, scrumptious breakfast burrito, best pecan roll EVER, super kind waitress, and quaint dining room. We loved the old house decor. It seemed to be an old boarding house, you could even see the old call buttons from the parlor where we ate. It is right down the yellow brick road from the Main Street, and across from city park. We didn’t purchase any baked goods at the entrance, but if we lived there we would often. They had fresh bread, cookies, cinnamon rolls, cute Easter cookies, and much more. Prices were spot on - worth the few minutes drive off I70.

Anytime we visit Wamego, we have to eat at the Friendship House. They have a delicious vegan selection for both breakfast and lunch as well as a variety of delicious bakery offerings. The staff are warm and friendly and accommodate groups of all sizes!

Waitress was Margaret. Great! Food was Chef Salad and Strawberry Chicken Salad. Great! The cream of chicken wild rice soup was honestly the best we both ever tasted Service was quick, friendly. Could not have had a better experience

We traveled here with with kids and found the meal and atmosphere charming! Right across the street from the city park, which is a great park to play and walk through after a fantastic meal. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The restaurant is in an old Victorian house and they serve mainly breakfast foods, sandwiches and burgers. They bake cookies, pies and their own bread...which is sooooo good! Highly recommend you take a box of cookies to the park with you ;)

Delicious breakfasts made with fresh ingredients. Portions are large and the service was warm and very hospitable. The restaurant is situated in a charming old house which has the nostalgic aromas and decor similar to my grandparents home. The baked goods from their bakery is also a must purchase. All made from scratch, delicious and very fresh. Following the yellow brick road running along side the house leads you to the marvellous Oz Museum. A morning well spent for any visitor passing through this pretty town!

I cannot more highly recommend an eatery than The Friendship House! Built in 1907 you enjoy eating inside or out on the porch. The food is great and portions generous. The owner and staff are super friendly as are the “townie” patrons. It was like eating at a loving family gathering

We were on cross country drive and were staying in Manhattan Ks at the konza cabin. My wife has always been big fan of Wizard of Oz movie so when she heard of the Oz museum in wamego we added it to our go to places. Manhattan Ks to Wamego was a short drive of maybe 25 minutes. The museum was great fun! Afterwords we noticed a beautiful alleyway with name “yellow brick road” so we took it 😊 and discovered the Friendship House restaurant. Refurbished old home very close to a nice park. We were greeted like long time customers and settled in. That is when things got really interesting. Our server Margaret came by and it was just like seeing a long lost aunt. She was so kind and helpful. She regaled us on the history of the town and the Oz connection. E loved every minute spent with her. What a great representative of this town! My wife ordered chicken soup and i had tuna melt. We both rated the lunch 5 of 5 for freshness and taste. We promised Margaret we would remember the town, the friendship house and her. Promise kept Margaret 😊 If you pass through this area give this restaurant a try, and take with you some of their fresh made bakery items.

Had my first ever Bierock (beer-ock) and aside from it being smaller than expected, it was really good. Make sure you get the horseradish sauce with it. The Belgian waffle with blueberries and whip was pretty amazing. Good coffee, tiny cups so prepare to ask for refills. The biscuits & gravy portion is large, tons of sausage gravy, but needed a little salt. Super friendly older waitress was funny and did a really good job. If you're in the area and they're open, I recommend stopping by.

Dear Jake and Friendship House Staff, I just want to pass on a “Big Thank You” to all those involved at the wedding reception on September 2nd of Jenna Meyer and Kevin Beam in Topeka at Rose Wood Venue. Everyone that was involved from Friendship House did a great job in setting up, serving and cleaning up. The food was as good as I expected. I really liked Jake’s BBQ Meatballs, the cheesy potatoes and the artichoke dip. The good news was that there was quite a bit left and I had the enjoyment of eating those items again and again over the long weekend. Thank you for everything that was done. The group was very professional and efficient in getting set up and serving the drinks and then breaking down and leaving. They worked with Jenna and myself in planning what needed to be provided in food, table clothes and place settings. Thanks again for everything that was done by the Friendship House Team. Sincerest regards and thank you, Gerald Meyer

The hash browns are nice chunks of potatoes, fried. Very tasty. My husband said the biscuits with his eggs and sausage were delicious. We didn’t get any, but the baked goods looked amazing. Rated it a 4 only because no servers were wearing masks during COVID. Coffee really good too.

Just follow the Yellow Brick Road right to the Friendship House! Food was amazing and Margret our waitress was the best waitress I have ever had! She should be named as community ambassador for Wamego! I had the Cabbage Cheese Soup and it was simply delicious!! Hit the spot on a chilly day down the yellow brick road. For dessert I had Custard Pie, and it transported me back to my childhood day’s and the ol’ farm on which my momma’s made me egg custard pie. The Friendship House and beautiful Wamego are definitely worth the journey!! And don’t leave without the cookies!!

We had lunch here during the annual Tulip Festival and had a great experience. While the festival itself was packed with attendees, we were able to get into the Friendship House for lunch. Inside, the house is filled with tables and chairs. We chose to sit on the front porch where there are two tables to accommodate dining when the weather is nice. Really great service and a nice variety of not fancy food.

It was like walking into my grandma’s house in Salina 60 years ago. Such a pleasant memory rekindled. And the food was just as pleasant. Peanut butter bread pudding, homemade potato/cheese/ham soup, homemade potato salad and burgers on homemade buns. I will say with all the descriptive eloquence I can muster……Yummy!!! Add Margaret our “advisor”/waitress to the recipe and it was a perfect day.
