The Beef Samosas were very tasty. My husband enjoyed his Lagos meal. This meal consisted of Fish and Lamb, plantain with rice and vegetables. Very yummy.

We decided to try the restaurant because my youngest son is Vegan. I had the crispy fried fish, and it was fantastic! My son got a spicy vegetable dish and absolutely loved it. They have a good variety, everything was very freshly prepared, and even...picking it up and bring it home it still was hot and tasted great.More
In addition to abundant and delicious foods, they also sell handmade jewelry and accessories from Africa. The storefront in this shopping strip (135th & Nieman)is plain but inside is a colorful trip to Africa. Service and cooking is provided by actual Africans. My African friends...verified that it is all authentic and they enjoyed our meals there, too.More
You have to try the Chips Masala they are amazing. I am a veggie only person and they had plenty of options for me. I took my leftovers home and my husband loved them. We are already planning to add this to our go-to list...of favorite places! My friend that went with me said the goat was very good and just falls off the bone.More
Our waitress was from Kenya and I think the chef was also from Africa. This is an attractive restaurant in a suburban strip mall far from downtown Kansas City. We think it's a very nice place for lunch or dinner. We had lunch for about...$20 a person. Menu includes beef, chicken, goat and fish dishes. Heavy emphasis on vegetables. Service was slow. Food was very good. Our dishes were a little different, but not tremendously different, from what you would get in a traditional American cafe.More
I had the beef stew with cabbage and cornmeal mush. The mush comes out in a sizable brick that was very dry and could have used some maple syrup, though I doubt that's big in Kenya as I've never seen sugar maples there. The beef...stew with vegetables was fine, though nothing special. It was an additional $.14 to get vegetables over just the plain beef stew, but I was feeling reckless that day and treated myself to the splurge. The menu is pretty limited which is generally a good thing as it allows the kitchen to really focus on a doing a small number of things well in lieu of doing a lot of things poorly. Maybe if you're from East Africa this is a welcome taste of home but, like food in Cuba and Morocco, I found it very bland and uninspiring. I've attached a photo of my plate. Thanks for reading. I’ll appreciate a thumbs up below if you’ve found this helpful.More
We ate there for a late lunch after a soccer match. The restaurant was not very busy and we were pleasantly greeted and seated. The food was served quickly. All of the meals we ordered--chick peas, beef stew, chicken stew and the masala chips were...very tasty and full flavored without being overly spicy. Our kids put a very good dent in their orders. We will be back!!!!More
I pick out a new restaurant every month, and selected Taste of Africa for this month. The restaurant and decor itself is just ok, pretty typical for this area, but the food was new to me and tasted wonderful! I ordered the samosas as an...appetizer and the Kalahari Platter. The Samosas were great! Almost every culture has a similar dish, meat stuffed in fried dough. The Kalahari Platter came with goat pieces, rice, kale, and a few other traditional sides. I was very surprised by how good everything was. The goat came right off the bone, and the sides accommodate the meat well. I really want to come back and try the fish!More
Please please please everyone visit this restaurant. I don't ever want them to go out of business. Unfortunately they are hiding in a little non descript strip mall off of 135th in Overland Park. This awesome little restaurant specializes in food from Eastern Africa and...HOLY COW it's good. The curries and the plantains are so good. Always get a sampler plate and the owner will come out and tell you about everything.More
Kalimingaro is the best platter ever. It Consist of deep fried fish ( African style) head on. Your choice of rise bread or fried plantain. The fish is fresh and clean and it taste wonderful. So glad I found this restaurant! We loved the food. So natural and fresh. No salty aftertaste. Since it was our first visit, the chef came out to our table to explain the different dishes and to make recommendations. We ordered vegetarian. Chef was so...friendly and helpful, and made our experience fun. The food was outstanding. Went with the lentil stew for one entre, and chic pea dish for the other. The plantain is a must. Never had better. Great to find this food style in Johnson County. Plan to go back and try the lunch buffet.More
My husband and I went to this restaurant thinking it served Nigerian food. Even tho it catered to the East African delicacies, it was amazing!! From presentation to taste, everything about our entrees was wonderful!
I ordered the chicken with salad. It was really good. Very flavorful. I spent many years as a missionary in different parts of Africa and this food came pretty to close. It's worth the try for those who are willing to try new food.
My family truly enjoyed eating at this restaurant. Coming from Africa, I was a little skeptical. I was definitely impressed, the food was so delicious. Buffet style for lunch served by a server behind the counter. Extra $ for chapatti, samosa, sausage that tasted as...I remember it. And to top the experience you have glass bottled soda for a little throw back. Would definitely go back next time I am in the Overland Park area.More
