Excellent sashimi! I was convinced there was no such thing as good sushi in the Kansas City area. This place proved me wrong. Will definitely go back there!

Been eating there for 10+ years off and on. Mostly based on location. Family events/work lunches. Until last 1.5 years has been good. Crazy monkey rolls, Spicy crab salad was good. Last two times has declined a lot. This past Monday the kids ordered sodas...and there was a chemical taste - which was there the prior time as well. Tasted watered down and chemical after taste. The spicy crab salads were good. We ordered a variety of rolls - all of which were nearly double the normal content of rice, very little salmon/crab/etc. I personally ordered a small sashimi platter. The rice was in a ball w the fish lying on the side. One of them was actually pollock! Total price was higher than ever - I assume all places have inflation but the cost didn’t fit the quality at all. I write this with sadness as I like the owners and want them to succeed, but they have to know what they are putting on people’s plates.More
Carryout, hibachi, regular table, or at the sushi bar, doesn't matter. Always get great service and food. Prices are very reasonable and average for a Japanese restaurant. Can get a little busy and cramped inside, not a lot of space, but plenty of covered area...outside to wait.More
Terrible experience. My older son took grandparents, his daughters and his wife to Kyoto for a High School graduation celebration dinner. We were there 90 minutes and our food still had not been served. Finally we had to confront them snd we finally got our...food. By that time everyone was on edge and too upset to even enjoy the food. We paid the bill snd left. They ruined a beautiful family celebration.More
We had family visiting from out of town. So we took the whole family out to enjoy this place. Our group of 11 had 4 kids ages 5 & under. They were all mesmerized by the cooking process. Actually, our cook wasn't as much fun...as previous visits, but for the kids it was a novelty. We all had various dishes - chicken, steak, salmon, shrimp - everyone enjoyed the food & experience. 3 of our group had birthdays & they received complimentary dessert. Overall, the service was very good. Prices are on the high side, but worth it for the experience & novelty.More
Great service, good food. Fun chef at the hibachi. Reservations taken on time. Will likely visit again.
Entertainment, plus lot's of good food with good friends, how can you go wrong? We will come back soon!
The last time we had dinner here our teppanyaki cook was dull and didn't interact with our group. We had a different cook this time and it was fun again! Although the restaurant was crowded service went smoothly and our food was brought to us...and cooked in a timely manner. Servings were large and we had enough to take home to make another meal.More
Make sure you make a reservation for this place or you'll NEVER get in! Really good food, really good service! Great sushi, you can't beat this place if you like a Japanese Steakhouse!
Swung by here with our teenage boys during a soccer tournament when we had a few hours to kill. Our cook was very funny and entertaining. Great soft shell crabs.
Multi course and lots of good food served in a fun atmosphere. Cooks were very interactive, supplying non stop conversation and flipping food into wide open mouths!
On NYE, a group of 12-16 of us have been going out to eat at a Japanese Steakhouse for 10+ years. This was our first time here. It was a tremendous hit! Service was great. Food was excellent. Our chef, Rod, was THE best.
I've been eating at Kyoto for years. In my opinion, it's the best sushi restaurant in the KC metro. Consistent and fresh! Great service!
The Birthday selected a Japanese steakhouse for his dining. From the outside it appeared, but to our surprise it was definitely not small. The older woman that greeted us wasn’t all that friendly, but we looked past it. There was only a 20 min wait...to dine in. Junior seated us & he was very attentive to our area. Drinks remained full. Sean prepared our food. He was so entertaining & witty. He had us laughing the entire time. We enjoyed ourselves so much that we will definitely return. I had the teriyaki chicken & steak. He had the teriyaki steak & shrimp. Our food was great! The steak was perfectly cooked. Very tender.More
Took my kids out for dinner to celebrate my daughters birthday. We had a great time and Johnny was our chef. He was very funny and entertaining. The couple sharing our table said they come here all of the time. The food was excellent and...we had a great time. Make sure you make reservations for the hibachi table. Nice large sushi bar and a private tradition Japanese sitting table. A lot bigger inside than it looks like from the outside. I will be back.More
