Surprisingly good fare

Stopped by for lunch on a whim. Ordered mushroom n Swiss burger while my wife ordered chicken fried chicken. Was surprised by the burger quality and the fries were really good! Chicken fried chicken was, according to my wife, tender, moist and really tasty! The fresh green beans was an unexpected joy. Best part was the price.... well worth it. Will certainly revisit following this discovery!

Great Wings. Not so great service

The wings are great. The prices are right and the bar has a nice selection on beers. The service leaves something to be desired. Unless you are sitting at the bar the servers are too busy flirting with their regulars or talking in the kitchen to pay attention to you. This has happened each of the 5 times I have been there. Luckily it is the food that brings me back.

Kitchen "Lost" Our Food Order

We went for dinner - fairly early on a weeknight - moderately busy. Almost an hour after ordering sandwiches, we had only received sodas. We asked our server how long the food would be - he said the kitchen was busy. Almost 10 minutes later he came back and said that the kitchen had "lost our ticket". When I asked the bartender (said he was manager) he said they had lost several table's tickets. Then he said "well I comped your food". Really? Food that was never prepared or served. And how did you know what to "comp" if you lost our order? We paid for our sodas, left and ate dinner elsewhere.

One evening at work I got a call from a man in Overland Park Kansas. He was looking to purchase a new mattress for his Mother-in-Law who was not in the best of health. I remember the day very well as I am a Chiefs fan and they were set to play the first game of the season against the n. e. patriots. We began talking football and visited on the phone for about an hour. One week later he showed up in my store to purchase the mattress set we had discussed on the phone. We became friends and I told him to come visit when he was in town to check on his Mother-In-law. The next trip through town he stopped in and visited and talk about his son Scott V. G. and Roni's Pub and Kitchen which he ran in Overland Park. I looked it up and liked it on Facebook. They posted pictures of food dishes that would make your mouth water. After seeing the Beer Cheese Philly sandwich, I started razzing him about bringing us some to try. On his next trip he did just that. He showed up with a food warmer and several Beer Cheese Philly sandwiches. OH MY GOODNESS!!!! Those were the best sandwiches I have ever had. I am a big boy who loves food, so when I say the best, I mean the best. I can't wait to visit Roni's Pub and Kitchen. I would recommend that if you are in the area, stop by and say hello to the folks at Roni's Pub and Kitchen. Oh and while you are there order the Beer Cheese Philly and treat yourself to the best sandwich out there in my opinion.

Racism in 2017

My experience here today was nothing short of disheartening. Especially, in 2017. I am a HUGE fan of Groupon and Yelp and frequently use both apps because we travel a lot for sporting events to different cities that I am not always familiar with. Using these apps, gives me the opportunity to enjoy the local businesses and could potentially give me something to look forward to when returning to that area, if the place is worthwhile. I purchased a Groupon for Roni's Pub and Kitchen after reading the reviews and wanting a good burger. We arrived at Roni's at approximately 3pm and because it looked a little more "Pub" than "Kitchen" on the outside than I expected, I went and stuck my head in the door first to see if it would be suitable for my family to accompany me inside. There was a table with a family seated inside the place so I went back to my vehicle and got my children and my mother. We walked inside and the sign at the Hostess podium read: "Please seat yourself" and so we did. The moment we sat down, a waitress approached us and said: "I'm sorry, all of our dishes are dirty and our kitchen will be closed for the next hour or so." I found that kind of odd but because we would probably need them anyway, I replied: "Okay. Can you give us to-go boxes instead?" Her response was: "No, that's the thing.....all of our utensils are dirty too and our grill is off so we can't even cook." Instantaneously, I knew that this establishment was not trying to serve us. I said to my family: "Let's go." and we promptly left. Needless to say, I was absolutely LIVID!!!! We were hungry. Very hungry. I had ALREADY paid for our food via the Groupon. And I am BLACK. I could not, for the life of me, wrap my head around this scenario: It's 2017 and I was just refused service at an establishment, because I'm black!! You don't believe it??? I didn't want to either so......5 minutes after we left, I called. I called and placed an order to go. You know what happened? THEY TOOK MY ORDER!! Because the freaking grill was NOT closed according to the girl on the phone! In her own words, she told me the grill was open. I was floored, pissed, disgusted and they heard about it. Someone in the background was trying to feed the girl on the phone info because she started stammering and trying to explain that she thought they gave me a refund on my Groupon (which I didn't even tell her about, so they'd been talking about us) and then I heard someone tell her to tell me something else but I was already so far into my rant that it didn't even matter. This is so unnecessary. What does the color of my skin have to do with the color of my money?! It spends the same and pays the bills. Period. The most hurtful thing about the entire situation is that it awakened memories that my mother hasn't had to deal with in YEARS and even more so, caused me to have to explain to my children exactly what just happened to them in a time when RACISM should be dead. Shame on you Roni's Pub and Kitchen. The residual stain that will forever remain on your name due to this blatant racist act is your fault and your fault only. Not ever in a million years would I have thought I'd have this happen to me. I'm telling ALL my friends about this. Regardless of their skin color. You couldn't have picked a better person to discriminate against to ruin your image. You messed with my babies and my mommy. Oops. Signed, A Black Woman Scorned

Great neighborhood bar!

We went early in the evening and there were a couple families dining there. I had a burger that was outstanding with a side salad that was loaded with mushrooms, tomatoes, onions and cheese. My husband loved his chicken fried chicken dinner which was huge and looked amazing! Later in the evening the 'party crowd' started arriving so not quite as appealing for families later but great hang out if you're looking for a good meal followed by a good time.

Luckily I had a Groupon

We ordered 2 burgers and a club salad. The burgers were hand made but not very big. They didn't have a lot of flavor. The club salad was a lot of greens and a slice of ham and turkey deli meat. The cheese on the salad was a slice of processed American cheese cut into strips. The beers were cold. I will not return
