I have never written a restaurant review that I was more unsure of what to say. It is one of the most unique places I have ever had the opportunity to dine at. Most restaurants have a method and an organized dining "procedure." If that...exists at El Panzote, I totally missed it. Driving by the restaurant/bakery on the highway, one is drawn to El Panzote by its very large and colorful signs saying they are now open, and are a bakery. The bakery consists of several bins on one wall of various Mexican bakery delicacies. After looking at their display and the premises, I'm quite sure the "bakery" is not onsite, but the purchased bakery goods are from a commercial and off site Mexican bakery. My guess is they were brought in from Tulsa, Ok. Bottom line the pasteries, etc. were quite good. The menu is totally unique to me. The offerings are definitely not your typical Mexican restaurant. Expecting chips and salsa...go somewhere else. I ordered a torta chicken with fries. Was it good. Definitely a no from me. My wife tried a soup. She said it was ok. I truly wanted to like this place, as it truly was like a "on the side of the road place" I have found along the roads in Mexico. I still am not sure what to say. It was authentic, It was not a "normal" Mexican restaurant. The menu was more Mexican than an Americano/Mexican restaurant. Would I go back? Strangely, maybe. It was so unique, I think I might give it another try, just to try and understand the process and what El Panzote really is. Maybe I am just being kind to a place that I actually didn't like. Time will tell!More

I finally decided to take a chance on this place. Wow! I wish I would have tried it sooner. This is the most authentic Mexican cuisine I have had in a long time. The fish tacos are the best I have ever had. The tamales...were outstanding. You won't be disappointed.More

I had some yummy beef empanadas and a pan dulce (pastry). The food is authentic and delicious. The owners are super nice. They serve breakfast, lunch, dinner and ice cream. Yum!

Picked up a dozen for New Year’s Eve. They are huge and delicious. Big hit! Katz’s was fluffier, not dense. Plenty of filing. Our sauces were medium and hot. Ask if you want milder.

Our family decided to try this place tonight and truly enjoyed it! Seriously authentic food, reasonable prices and quaint atmosphere. The beef empanadas were incredible!!! We topped our dinner off with Nievas ice cream....incredible! The staff was really nice too. We highly recommend! :-)

I usually don't share when it comes to my favorite 'less public' eateries, but not sharing this one would be a discredit. You walk in and the smells are memorable. Whether it is the sweet breads, pastries, cakes and cookies, or the slow roasted meat...and authentic Latin cuisine. El Panzote is the definition of a hidden gem. For me personally, the tamales are the best I/we have ever had (local and abroad). I have tried several dishes from the menu and they have all been spectacular. Their service is great the owner and staff are extremely friendly. It has become a staple for our family. Each time we go we take a grab a few tamales and try something new from the menu. Can’t go wrong with a piece of the tres leches cake too ;) A couple of things to note, there is limited seating, In the past we have planned on taking ours on the go, but if there is room, we will stay and eat in. Also, their food is authentic and depending on palate… might be considered a bit on the spicy (hot) side.More
