My wife and I were working our way home from Arizona to Kansas City, and broke the trip in Liberal, Kansas out on the high plains. It might be the last place you would expect a really wonderful Italian dinner, but Ruffino's did not disappoint....It's located in the old Rock Island passenger depot downtown with plenty of parking. We visited mid-afternoon on a Sunday, missing the crowd. This is a white-tablecloth and linen napkin house, but informal and relaxed. Our server was young but knowledgeable and very helpful. Their bread, served nice and warm, was excellent and we added a garlic/herb olive oil dip to go with it. They have a nice wine selection, strong on the reds (including a private label) but I was happy to see they had Estancia Cab. Salads were fresh, cool and crisp. We both had and liked the ranch dressing. I ordered the chicken parmesan and my wife went with chicken marsala. The parm was served over spaghetti with plenty of red sauce and it was huge. And really good, comparing with the good Italian restaurants we have in KC. The marsala was flavorful as well and didn't skimp on the mushrooms. We both had to take some home with us. We would go back in a heartbeat. This is the place for lunch or dinner between Albuquerque and Wichita, hands down, and you won't leave hungry.More

Friends recommended place, great service and fresh entrees. Tried salmon special, salmon and pastas cooked perfect, tortellini with chicken and broccoli great but would have liked more chicken and broccoli which we mentioned. Salads good with unique Italian dressing.

We highly recommend Ruffinos! Excellent food, nice atmosphere & good service. We ❤️’d the warm bread & oil dipping sauce and the Caesar Salad and lasagna were great. Proportions are huge and we shared:)

We needed to have some work done on our RV so had time to spend in Liberal, Kansas. I read the restaurant reviews on Trip Advisor and decided to give Ruffino’s a try for lunch. And we weren’t disappointed. The bread fresh from the oven...with the olive oil dip was incredible. My salad was generous and fresh. My husband’s soup was delicious as were our entree’s, the lasagna and cannelloni. The waitperson was friendly, attentive, and informative. Overall, it was a great experience!More

The puffy yeast rolls are homemade and delicious, the house salad way above ordinary, and our two entrees, veal piccata and fettuccini Alfredo, were excellent. Portions are large. I ordered the “light appetite” Alfredo, and it was plenty. The veal piccata easily could have been...shared. Good service, a handsome dining room, reasonable prices, Italian wines - a real find in western Kansas.More

Ruffino's is located in an historic train depot in Liberal. You need to be there when a train passes by - the place rocks! We went for our anniversary and the visit was no disappointment. The staff was friendly as could be. The restaurant is...old school elegant. The rolls are like loaves of soft bread. The wine was perfect. We both had veal picata. I asked for extra capers and got a ton. Dessert was fabulous. Not many fine restaurants in SW Kansas. This is a great stop.More

We got into Liberal about 8 on a winter night, and knew we needed to find food soon. TripAdvisor recommended this place, and off we went. Let's just say that Liberal is unprepossessing. I never would have expected to find what we found when we...arrived. The historic railroad depot houses an amazing Italian place! The decor was very nice, the menu extensive, and the wine prices reasonable. We ordered a chicken dish and a pasta dish. Both were excellent. The atmosphere was very pleasant and quiet, but there were only three tables at that hour. Prices were about what you'd pay at Olive Garden, but the food was much better. The service was very friendly, and even though they were closing as we left, the hostess chatted with me about the history of the building, etc. It's so nice to find really good food out on the road, and we are definitely looking forward to dinner here again.More

Very attentive service, good food, and reasonable prices. We were delighted! If you are in Liberal and want to eat somewhere that's not a chain or a fast food, this is the place!

We had been out of town and had not been able to enjoy our almost weekly visits to Ruffino's. We stopped for lunch yesterday and it was wonderful. We always order a full entree and then take it home for our evening dinner. The portions...are more than adequate for that. And the service is always good!More

This was mind blowing! I travel a great deal and love to eat. It was late (8:30, and they close at 9pm), but the staff gave us a very pleasant dining experience with very cheerful service. Not rushed, and very kind. The restaurant is in...the train depot facilities with a quaint, historic feel. The music was lovely as we dined on fabulous sauces on each entree - alfredo for the wonderful, fresh baked bread, garlic cream sauce with fettucine and shrimp, and a divine mushroom brandy sauce on veal scallopine (terrific job on the veal as this is by far the best I've ever had). Ruffino wine of course went well with the meal. There was a very nice wine list for those that want something more.More
