Really excellent. We're new to Lawrence, visiting for the first time, and frankly we did not expect to find great seafood in what may be the city as far from an ocean as there is in the US. But wow. We went twice in two...days. The paella was excellent. The crab cakes, creatively delicious. My wife had the arctic char and said it was out of this world. And try the roasted brussels sprouts to start -- excellent. We will definitely be back. When we're back.More

I guess I should have assumed that seafood in Kansas is a stretch. It is. The clam chowder was great, but it was all downhill from there. The goat cheesecake was a nice surprise. Everyone ordered something different ... crab cakes (where was the crab),...tuna nachos (where was the tuna) and bang bang shrimp which had too much coating.More

The pan seared salmon was excellent, but the rest was very disappointing. The server was not rude, but was not particularly friendly or helpful in pairing wines. The crab cakes were mushy and cold. The bread, which was burnt, was an extra $5 for 5...small slices. I don't care if the bread is from a local bakery - it was a rip off. I could live with that, but three of our guests ordered the snow crab legs and they were a joke. Tiny, tiny snow crabs (and yes, I understand they are not King Crab legs) served with NO sides whatsoever? Really? My guests left hungry. Not a good experience.More

Quite simply one of the best restaurants in the entire metro area. Unique and creative food with quality ingredients. Their cocktails are wonderful and the wine list always has some wonderful surprises. Our go to spot.

Recently visited this gem of a restaurant for the first time and were delighted with the food, atmosphere and service. The appetizers, tomatillo soup and clam chowder, were perfect for a chilly night. The star of the evening, paella, revealed a perfect so rat and...although light was very satisfying. The EVOO served over a fig compote made a lovely end to a great meal. Service was excellent and we enjoyed meeting, Laura, Kyle, and Nicole - all cheerful and professional, and knowledgeable about the food and wine. Will return.More

I've avoided this restaurant as I don't eat fish, but I met friends there for happy hour and was quite pleased and surprised at the choices I had! I had the cheese curds, as well as some of the tuna nachos

We sat outside which was nice. We especially enjoyed the salmon. We also ordered a bread place and the bread was exceptional. The Old Fashioned drink was OK so I tried a different drink, Absyenth and Lime, which was... well different... I did not enjoy...it but I like their creativity.More

Expectations were not met. I ordered sardines with the expectation that was not at the level of being served from a can I get from a grocery store, led me down a trail that was disappointing. The food and service was just OK, which again...did not meet my expectations.More

Salmon ordered was flavorful per our two diners. I ordered Lobster linguini. They were out of lobster and subbed in Prawns. Good but I will go back for Lobster linguini. Oyster were succulent. Ratoitoille was delicious. Enjoyed ambience.

For Restaurant Week, you would think restaurants would want to “represent” to draw customers back. Apparently, Mass St. Fish House didn’t get that concept. We ordered the three part restaurant week offering ($35/ person). My husband added an additional shrimp cocktail appetizer. He got 6...pinkie sized shrimp plopped on a salad plate. For $15. Really? At a fish restaurant? The salad was a 4” by 2” wedge with a few sprinkles. Our entrees were the lobster fettuccine. It was 2 cups of a soupy, tomato sauce with fettuccine pasta and 3 chunks of what we assumed was lobster. It filled less than 1/3 of the bowl. We had to ask for bread; got 3 pieces of grilled bread, no butter. The dessert was a mini cupcake sized lemon corn cake with a tablespoon of ice cream. I asked and the waitress did say the portions were slightly smaller for restaurant week. For our $100 tab, we got “small plates”... literally. Hubby still hungry and mad. We enjoy dining out at restaurants in all price levels. This one has priced themselves to be in the higher categories, but didn’t deliver...More

Upscale in a Lawrence kind of way. Very good seafood for a restaurant in the middle of the country. The service is very attentive, friendly and helpful and the atmospher and decor are nices.
